I am buying this directly through Sony, as a Sony dealer I will get the cost price plus a surcharge, I pay only GST also, in the end I save approx $700.00 (than if I was to buy through the regular retail stores)

Iraq banned from Beijing Olympics
Last Updated: Thursday, July 24, 2008 | 2:53 PM ET Iraq has been banned from competing at the Beijing Games because of government interference, the International Olympic Committee announced Thursday. Iraq's Olympic committee had been under suspension from the IOC since June after the country's government dismissed officials in favour of its own appointees, who weren't recognized by the IOC. The move ran afoul of the IOC charter, which requires national Olympic committees to be free of political influence. The Iraqi government said the old committee was illegitimate after four of its 11 members were kidnapped in Baghdad in 2006. "This morning we were informed of the final decision of the International Olympic Committee to suspend the membership of the Iraqi Olympic Committee," Hussein al-Amidi, the general secretary of the Iraqi Olympic Committee, said Thursday. Iraq had planned to send a team of five athletes to Beijing, but missed a Wednesday deadline to submit a squad for the Aug. 8-24 Games amid its stalemate with the IOC. Iraq's places will be offered to athletes from other countries. "The deadline for taking up places for Beijing for all sports except athletics has now passed," IOC spokeswoman Giselle Davies said. "The IOC very sadly has now to acknowledge that it is likely there will be no Iraqi presence at the Beijing Olympic Games, despite our best efforts." The IOC said the Iraqi government did not accept an invitation to come to its headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland, to try to end the dispute. "It's a final decision, there is no way to appeal," Amidi said. "This means that Iraq will not take part in the coming Olympic Games. It is a blow to Iraq and its international reputation, its athletes and its youth." "I swear those athletes who have been training… they phoned me today and they were crying and were very upset." Iraq's government said after the June 4 suspension that it wanted to meet with the IOC "to make its legitimate case." It said the decision to dissolve the Olympic committee was based on "solid evidence of blatant corruption, lack of legitimate transparent electoral processes and accountability, and absence of ratified legislation." Iraq's athletes are not the first to miss an Olympic Games because of government interference. In the most recent case, Afghanistan was prevented from sending a team to the 2000 Sydney Games because of the Taliban regime's intervention in sports administration. To Beijing you go! Olympian-to-be, Niall Roberts (centre), poses with Minister Anthony (fifth left), Chinese Ambassador to Guyana Jungao Zhang (fourth left), President of the GOA, K. Juman-Yassin (fourth right) and others at last Tuesday night’s reception. Photo by Cullen Bess-Nelson) ======================= Olympic Games team urged to be good ambassadors Thursday, July 31, 2008 "THE Olympic Games are a great opportunity for the world to have a better understanding of China and vice versa" was the Chinese perspective of the 2008 Beijing Olympics, given by their Ambassador to Guyana Jungao Zhang. Ambassador Zhang was speaking at Tuesday night’s reception held at the Chinese Embassy for Guyana's soon-to-depart representatives at the Olympics. The extravagant affair, organised by the Chinese Embassy and the Guyana Olympic Association (GOA) saw Guyana's lone home-based Olympic representative, Niall Roberts, along with officials and representatives for the Olympic youth camp receive a rousing and hopeful sendoff. Also in attendance were Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport Dr Frank Anthony and president of the Guyana Olympic Association K.A. Juman-Yassin. Chinese Ambassador Zhang took the opportunity to show off the preparations his country has made for the games with clips of the spanking facilities streaming on a monitor throughout the evening. He cited China’s diverse culture with 51 ethnic groups and 1.3 billion people that will offer a great deal to the world. He also congratulated Roberts for the hard work he has put in to make the Guyana team to Beijing and wished him well. Minister Anthony in his remarks wished the Guyanese representatives best of luck and commended the work of China in preparing for the Games. With a tinge of envy in his voice Anthony drooled on the wondrous sights the Guyanese contingent will witness. On a stricter note he urged the representatives to be good ambassadors and do their best. He also had advice for the officials making the trip. "It’s not only being with the team but the networks and linkages that you will form through your relationships with other teams, so that when you come back we can build on that legacy to develop sports in Guyana," he admonished. The minister also noted that apart from infrastructure, long-term programmes have to be in place for Guyana's sports to progress. President of the GOA, K. A. Juman-Yassin feels that the games will be the most successful ever. He admitted that the Chinese face huge expectations from the rest of the world but expressed confidence that China and Beijing will rise to occasion. He also took the opportunity to decry the lack of facilities in Guyana and called on the ministry to develop track and field facilities. The contingent that will be departing on Sunday includes: Niall Roberts, Noel Adonis (Chef de Mission), Stephanie Fraser (swimming coach), Cornel Rose (track and field manager), and Guyana’s representatives at the Olympic Youth Camp, middle-distance runner Alika Morgan and cyclist Geron Williams. The camp will run from August 6 to 18. Reference Source |

And so are a lot of other things, such as snake etc. You can't even get a Chinese young lady to take away I tried dem big TV by the way, but they give me motion sickness. Now I use a 27" one instead in my bedroom. The one downstairs is a 32", but I am going to give that to the mother in law. I tend to listen to music downstairs and that TV is just in the way of where I want to put my speakers for better soundstage. |

Was this our only medal?
Michael Parris, also known as Michael Anthony (born October 4, 1957 in Georgetown, Guyana) is a retired boxer from Guyana, who competed in the bantamweight (< 54 kg) division at the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow, Soviet Union. There he won the bronze medal, after being defeated by Cuba's Juan Hernández in the semifinals. |

Five athletes confirmed for Beijing Olympics — door open to others
Posted by : Michael DaSilva Filed under : Guyana Sports THE participation of five local athletes at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games has been confirmed and the door is still open for others providing they make the qualifying times in their respective events. It has been revealed that two U.S. based athletes – Lee Prowell and Deon Bascom have been confirmed to represent Guyana at the Central American and Caribbean Track and Field championships which will be held in Colombia from July 3-6, and will be seeking to make the qualifying times in their respective events so as to get an opportunity to don national colours in Beijing. Prowell will contest the men’s 100 metre and Bascom the men’s 800 metre. Addressing members of the media last Saturday at Olympic House, Guyana Olympic Association’s (GOA) president K. Juman-Yassin informed that US based track and field athletes Marian Burnett and 2002 Commonwealth Games’ 400 metre gold medalist Aliann Pompey along with Guyana based swimmer Niall Roberts, track and field middle distance ‘Queen’ Alika Morgan and cyclist Geron Williams, have all been accredited to represent Guyana at the August 8 to 24 Games in Beijing, China. However, while Burnett, Pompey and Roberts will be actively seeking medals in the Games’ competitions, Morgan and Williams will be attending the Games’ Youth Camp which will be held during the duration of the Olympic. Pompey will contest the women’s 400 metre and Burnett the women’s 800 metre. http://myguyanachronicle.com/2008/06/12/five-athletes-c...door-open-to-others/ |

Did anyone see the US win the 4x200 freestyle swimming relay race? That has got to be one of the most exciting races I've seen in a very long time.
