Police soliciting wider civilian involvement in crime fight
By Michel Outridge Friday, July 18, 2008 ACTING Police Commissioner, Henry Greene, called Wednesday on all civic-minded persons to become members of Station Management Committees (SMCs) in their respective areas. He said members of the SMCs play a helping role to Divisional Commanders in managing Police stations and he acknowledged their work at the conclusion of the 169th anniversary awards ceremony, on the Tactical Services Unit (TSU) Drill Square, Eve Leary, Georgetown. “…even though they might not be here, we are quite happy with the work that they continue to do at stations and we encourage them to help commanders in so many ways,†Greene said in his solicitation of wider civilian involvement with Police work. He encouraged members of the public to form groups and be involved in the process. “These people who choose to guard their villages know the people in their community and often provide very good information,†Greene remarked. He said he regards them as the eyes and ears of the Guyana Police Force (GPF) and good sources of providing information in the fight against crime. “We see the role of these auxiliaries as very important and we still have our Impact Advisory, Travel Advisory and Divisional Advisory and these are joint collaborations between Police and members of the public,†Greene explained, calling them the civilian arm of the GPF. “We cannot survive without the help of members of the community and we embrace their efforts to foster a better relationship with the GPF,†he said. Greene also recognised the part played by Community Policing Groups (CPGs), from whom support comes in the form of information and help. They are regarded as the auxiliary arm of the GPF, he stated. Greene thanked the Neighbourhood Policing Groups (NPGs) and the Special and Rural Constables, as well. Public Relations Officer, Ivelaw Whittaker, said the SMCs are geared to ensure monitoring of the Police stations, by civilians, too, to enable the GPF to provide greater efficiency and effectiveness. He said the benefits from the SMCs include improved community relations, information gathering, assistance with development of infrastructure and other necessary areas at stations and greater understanding of Police problems. Whittaker said Divisional Commanders, Sub-Divisional Officers and Subordinate Officers-in-Charge (SOs) are responsible for attracting upstanding persons of the community, like influential business personalities and members of the local authorities, among others. He said that the Crime and Traffic Officers are also involved in the mobilising of members of the community or station districts and, after the elections of SMCs, the SOs automatically become the secretaries. Whittaker recalled that, years ago, SMCs were established at all stations and said the GPF is trying to resuscitate that system. Reference Source |

Guyana Police Force
Tactical Service Unit Station Management Committees Community Policing Groups Neighbouring Policing Groups It would appear to me that this crime fighting strategy is all about forming groups with all sorts of names that do not take into account the belief that people are aware that the government is pouring new wine into old wine skin. THE ENTIRE SYSTEM IS CORRUPTED BY ALL SORTS OF CRIMINAL ELEMENTS, including the Office of the President. |

Rama, I have visited the OP, not under the PPP government, in the execution of my duties when I lived in Guyana, and I can tell you, I have always felt that the office was being abused for absolute partisan and personal reasons. I've also visited with Dr. Jagan twice in his Robb Street office at Freedom House in the execution of my duties when I lived in Guyana, and I can tell you, the man's humble surroundings made me feel at home. Unpolished floor. Dinged wooden desk. Open windows in place of air conditioning. Worn out wooden. Yet he spoke with me like a regular guy for a total of six hours. I am not Cheddi Jagan fan, but for all his flaws, Cheddi Jagan stands like a tower over that boy-toy now running the country. I am six years Jagdeo's senior and I can tell you, he is not just younger than me; he is a child. He has the mentality of a little child who was born into a family of means and power. If he feels slighted he reacts by getting his 'loyal, ass-kissing friends' to back him in his retaliations. But notice as with all dictators who eventually get ousted, they run and leave their friends. Look at the Shah of Iran. Look at Amin of Uganda. Look at Marcos of the Philippines. Look at Taylor of Liberia. |

jagdeo isn't torchering anybody. He also came from a poor family, that's why he accepted a PPP scholarship to study in Russia. How assanine can you be for comparing jagdeo to my buddy, Idi Amin and The Shah of Iran.. Further more, Jagdeo is not a dictator.. |

Rama, You are one sorry ass apologist of the PPP. You're either stupid and know it or you're stupid and don't know it! If you respond I will tell you which it is! |
