Yeah! I can just imagine the headline news after Obama's 'sweetie' remark: "OBAMA CALLS REPORTER SWEETIE...and apologises!" Geesh! What, is there nothing else major going on? I don't know how calling a woman SWEETIE is chauvinistic. I've had women refer to me as cute, sweetie, yo', heeey, hon, beau and handsome. Were they being insulting? I don't think so. To me they thought they were being nice and I read nothing else into their salutations. I'm amazed, though, at young women who respond to young men who hail them with, "Yo, shortie..." or young women who refer to other young women as "That bitch is gonna get hers..." and there is no sign of self checking. It may be slightly condescending to call a woman 'sweetie', but said good-naturedly, it can make the recipient feel welcomed and relaxed. But because of who Obama is and the nature of this campaign, he did the right thing by taking the high road and apologizing. I was on the phone two weeks ago with a female employee at my organization and I refer to her, good naturedly as, 'Girl..." She quickly responded, "Girl? I'm Miss Brown." And we continued our conversation. The age of political correctness has everyone checking their brains before they open their mouths even when trying to be nice. |

The radio blowhard displayed the same level of ignorance as was President Bush in the Knesset. |
