Churchy, the dance group you're referring to is the Nritya Kala Kendra International Academy, run by Marilyn Bose. That group along with Verna Walcott's Impressions Dance Theater are staples at the Guyana Day event. These two groups have some wonderful, enthusiastic and dedicated young people. These kids are disciplined and are always well-prepared for a performance.
They range in age from the pre-K to Grade school. I admire Verna Walcott for teaching Guyanese folk dancing and story telling to these young kids growing up here. Marilyn Bose too should be commended for the education in Guyanese folk to her kids. Always look out for their performances in other places. They are a joy to watch. I had said I will make mention of sponsors of the Guyana Day event; and I must start off with a champion in our community in this regard - Sybill's Restaurant. No matter the economic circumstances, Vibert (Cookie) Bernard is always receptive to the Arts community. He gives back each year in many ways, noticeably during the Labor Day weekend at the Richmond Hill store. Watch this space for more on the people who support our culture. |

Ms. Marlyn Bose is a talented dancer and dance instructor. She is not Portuguese. She is what we would call in Guyana," a red girl" . She has been supporting Guyana Day since 2000 |

To continue mentioning the sponsors of this event, Vigo Money Transfer service (a competitor to Western Union and MoneyGram, etc) has come on board this year. It is good to note that a non-Guyanese entity sees something in what we do.
First Republic Bank continues to chip in as G & R Electronics - the store on Liberty Ave by 115 Street that Sparrow and Ricky Jai have promoted. Good people own that store. |

I patronize G & R quite a bit this year. Great service and bargain for your money. I would recommend the public to shop there. |

The previous sponsors, other than Sybill's are all non-Guyanese-American, and one doesn't even have a presence in New York.
Pro-Services Network, a Guyanese-American financial services company offering taxation and accounting among its portfolio; Kem Cabinet and Countertop; Happy Garden Restaurant, RSN; National Allotment and Shakoor Manraj have all chipped in as sponsors. There is a raffle at the end of the entertainment. |

The Guyana Day event made a great impact on business support for cross culture and events that bring people together. The committee members must be commended for their efforts for reaching out to the non-guyanese community of business sponsorship. Your mission for unity and exhibition for our culture and arts will live a long life among the patriots of Guyana. |

It is customarily for non-profit entities to acknowledge their sponsors at any public events.
The same will be done at the ICF event (an all indo event) at smokey park this Sunday as well. |

I am glad to see you using the word "our". Come in and support and stop the back biting. The turncoat is "giving" to support "your" culture and heritage. Nehru: I need you Sunday morning to do some volunteer work for two hours at smokey park. |

Ice-pee is tolerated here because we don't want to take away his only source of fun. Remove this therapy and he will fall through that crack in his basement dwelling mind.

Last minute plans have been put into place to have a very enjoyable concert on Sunday May 18th,2008....last year there were over one thousand folks there....this year promises to attract a larger crowd....
Folks who attended last year are still commenting not only about the performances but also the spacious air conditioned hall, clean toilet facilities and safe, free and adequate parking..... Rain or shine the concert will commence promptly at 3:30 pm.....and its free.... |
