Living Guyana just received information from a high ranking source at the Government Information Agency that President Bharrat Jagdeo will ban death announcements from radio and television in Guyana with effect from August 1st 2008. This ban comes into effect because President Jagdeo is concerned that death announcements are too negative and make people unhappy therefore he is removing those from the airwaves.

TV ...I can understand but he shouldn't do radio....that's still one of the main means of keeping Guyanese updated with distance between villages. Needs to do a little more thinking on this one.

Yeah I even saw TV antenna coming outta hooaaa in a few of them not all has...so still radio wouldn't do any harm. Who listens to radio anyways plus it's very late in the night..it's a tradition as soon as you hear that music you know.

This is a lot of bull. Since when Jagdeo is allowed to make a solo decision on public announcement without the people's input? This is another undemocratic move by a corrupted Chief. What is more horrifying than to watch a little boy guts blown out from one of the massacre?

Sharma's Channel 6, which is very popular for death announcements, should be back on the air in August. The publication is probably expressing satire: Jagdeo doing anything to keep Sharma off the air.

Sharma needs some death anouncements to balance his comedy show. As more of his audience dies, he gets more material.
