President says Press Association more hostile to Gov’t than Opposition Party
In an interview yesterday with the National Communications Network (NCN), President Bharrat Jagdeo said he does not have much time to waste on comments being made by Caribbean and local media persons on the recent banning of Capitol News reporter Gordon Moseley from the Office of the President and State House, as he is adamant that some reporters are totally biased against the Government.

“We have a Press Association that has demonstrated its bias against the Government on numerous occasions. In fact, it is even more hostile to the Government than the Opposition party. It is like the new Opposition in Guyana and they consistently mislead the international community. They did this on several occasions,” he asserted.

The President added that this was done again with the current ongoing issue with media reports stating that Moseley was censured because of an article he wrote.

“I don’t have time to waste on people like Gordon Moseley. Access to this office is a privilege, and I will extend that privilege to ordinary people, not to some people who, regardless of what you do, only see the negatives and they’re looking for the next story,” he said.

Referring to two meetings he had yesterday with religious Leaders in Buxton and the Foulis Housing Co-op Society, the President said these are the people he will focus his attention on and will provide assistance for.

“Those are the people who will have privileges to come to my office. They have more a right, not so much of a privilege….what we have in this country is a syndrome where many very powerful people in our society ‘suck up’ to reporters because they’re afraid of bad press. They call them and they treat them well…I don’t care whether Gordon Moseley or others write bad things about me, once it’s objective it’s fine, and even if it’s not objective, I don’t pay too much attention to it,” he stated.

President Jagdeo told NCN that his responsibility is to serve the people of the country and to deal with their well-being. He noted that he needs to deal with serious issues like the cost of living and making sure that the economy functions.

“I have to meet with ordinary people to try to solve their problems. I’m not going to ‘suck up’ to this group of people, so nothing that we do in this Government, the PPP Government, or I do will find a favourable voice in some of these reporters. They’re hostile. They see themselves as anti-Government media and they will try to make a story out of even the most positive things,” the Head of State contended.

Alluding to the reports provided by the reporter on the CARICOM Heads of Government meeting in Antigua, the President maintained the position that the reports were biased and captured the only two negative incidents at the meeting.

“We had two hours of an entirely positive meeting with mainly Afro-Guyanese people - my people. When I say my people, I mean Guyanese people. The only two incidents they portrayed were negative ones, but they have a right to do that so I’m not going to have my Government ‘suck up’ to media people because they’ve lost any ability to be objective,” President Jagdeo said.

The President said the media will continue to be negative and he will continue to do what he has to do, and what he was put to do; and that is, to serve the country and ordinary people who have a right to his office. (GINA)

Chabrol continues his lobbyist role as an anti-government protagonist
THE Guyana Press Association (GPA) is at least consistent with its fascination over unleashing its reservoir of constant anti-government criticisms and biases. It is actually interesting to see the GPA come alive occasionally in instances where it feels it has an opportunity to bash the Administration.

Of serious concern is the inexorable hatred that emanates from the bosom of Mr. Dennis Chabrol of GPA. Chabrol could not have disappointed those who anticipated him to take a position on this Administration’s decision on Gordon Moseley as persona non grata at the Office of the President and State House.

It is common and customary practice for the GPA to selectively distort, mislead and fabricate stories even at the expense of further tarnishing the image and reputation of the Association. Chabrol should strive to be objective and stop masquerading around promoting anti-government sentiments.

He should not be allowed to escape this latest concoction that this decision is related to some dissatisfaction with Moseley’s story in Antigua. This is a consummate lie. The Administration’s decision rests solely on the utter contempt that Moseley showed toward the Office of the President.

Access to the President’s office and any of its annexes is a privilege granted to journalists and not a God-given right. Journalists like any other category of professionals must exercise decorum in the execution of their duty to be given such privilege. Members of the media must at all times demonstrate due courtesy, respect and consideration in the exercise of its functions.

It is sadly unfortunate that Mr. Chabrol continues his lobbyist role as an anti-government protagonist in the name of professional journalism.

Considering the caption of this thread and the first post that does not support it, we can conclude that this PPP apologist, Dave Full-o-Tricks, is stepping on his on lifeless ego and tripping up himself in the process.

But to be serious, this is exactly how the government is viewing any one or agency that is doing a far more effective job at standing up to and expsoing the government than the main political opposition.

Without the free media, however, Guyanese would not have been up-to-date on a lot of stuff, because the main opposition is not doing an effective enough job challenging the inept and corrupt government.

The free media have helped to keep issues on the front burner, much to the anger of government. And for this, the government is trying to label the GPA the 'political opposition'. That, my dear Comrade Tricks, is a promotion and an honor.

It means the GPA has gotten the government's attention. Now let the government go after the GPA and let the ill reputation of the government spread like a wild fire throughout the region and the wider world.

Birds of a feather! Remember what Burnham did to Jagan when Burnham back in the 1950's!

Jagdeo would do anything to hold on to that executive President positon so that he can elude Jail time in the U.S.A for his many crimes!

They will put him in a cell next to his business partner Roger Khan. Jagdeo is really pissed with Moseley because of his coverage of the Roger Khan trial. That is the real reason that Moseley was Banned!

Meanwhile, the main opposition party, PNCR, has also strongly condemned the ban pointing out that coming on the heels of the 17-month withdrawal of state advertisements from Stabroek News and the suspension of Channel 6’s licence, it should be concluded that “the strategic aim of the PPP, to dominate and control the media is alive and well.”

The party noted that Moseley has long been a target of President Bharrat Jagdeo’s ire, recalling an incident before the hosting of the ICC Cricket World Cup where the journalist had asked a question which caused the President “…to explode. This along with his reporting of the [Guyanese drug accused in the US) Roger Khan saga, has not endeared him” to the Office of the President.

The President's actions in this matter also brings to the forefront an issue that Moses and Ramjattan raised sometime back and is becoming clearer now, and that is his veracity.
Some persons who have had dealings with him in the past, always highlight this fact.

It is important that the GPA remain neutral in the political life of the nation.....forming a political party as implied on the heading of this thread might not be the wisest move......
