Gasoline reaches $1, 018 per gallon
The price of gasoline has now risen to $1,018 a gallon as of yesterday.
The price of gasoline at Low’s Shell Service Station, Vlissengen Road, Bel Air Park, is now $1,018 a gallon.
However, the price at Shell Camp Street Service Station was $995.
Kaieteur News was unable to confirm the prices at Texaco, Esso and Guyoil.
This newspaper understands that as part of an arrangement with the Commerce Ministry, the Minibus Association cannot raise the price of bus fares unless the price of gas goes above $1,000.
Over the last few months, Government has been continuously reducing the excise tax on gasoline in an effort to prevent the price of that commodity from going above the $1,000 mark.
Commerce Minister Manniram Prashad had said that if the price goes above the mark further adjustments will have to be made with the Minibus Association.

That is not an immediate fix.

The GOG should seriously be looking at a subsidy program and implement it asap.

Living in Guyana is a nightmare and soon dey will be robbing children going to school.

I hear you Seignet. The world has aserious problem with oil and Guyana is no exception... especially the ordinary family.

The bridge project to Berbice is great; the oil rights in the Corentyne is fantastic but one must wonder, what if the gog had undertaken hydropower!!

As well as cars running on ethanol made from sugar cane. Brazil was practically giving this technology to Guyana during Burnham's time. They had about four Volkswagens running around Georgetown for months in a pilot program. Sadly, no one paid too much attention to it and it faded away along with bell bottoms and kickers. Today, Brazil is self sufficient in its energy needs. Guyana? Well, we have CGX looking for oil. By the time they manage to get it out of the ground, oil will be $50 a barrel and mankind will have progressed to using some kind of alternative fuel for cars.

Big Grin. I was just enjoying this old post of yours. How times have passed. Oil is now around U$135 a barrel and still Guyana is in the dark about energy needs.
