Party Hopper...In case you missed it
Sunday, 20 July 2008 22:55 Guyana Times There were many social events unfolding over the past week in the realm of entertainment so in this edition the Hopper is serving up from his photo bucket, for all those who missed the action. ‘Red Hot Summer Sizzler’ party scorched Court Yard Humans don’t sweat but on Friday last the sizzle from the DIGICEL “RED HOT SUMMER†party staged at the Court Yard made that possible. Hundreds including friends, family, acquaintances, and total strangers flocked to the Main Street location to party; and hopefully win one of ten brand new motor Scooters on the offer from mobile provider Digicel. The Hopper arrived at about 22:00, and realised that parking was difficult as cars lined the road shoulders from as far away as Quamina Street on both sides. The energy from the DJ was off the chains (happening), and the crammed together patrons were in tune with the vibes, unmindful of the heat. At a cost of $1000 to get in to the location, literally hundreds were packed in and outside of the location and they obviously had a grand time. The Hopper and his crew remained thirsty that night because getting to the bar proved a task that required serious navigation and energy. And while the hopper totally enjoyed the party and wanted to send a few texts he has to shamelessly confess “that the owner for the phone take it so I ain’t got no Digi phone right now.†The Hopper got jealous of all the red phones waving and pushed his way out of the party to join the scores that were on the road cooling off. Somebody, who was not in the party, won the first motor scooter but the Hopper ain’t giving up so easy. He plans to be at every party till he wins a bike, or a phone, or something to compensate for his soiled shirt at the first party. Extra, Extra: Donovan White, Digicel Head of Marketing, says that over a seven week period, Digicel customers will be the beneficiaries of several prizes, and a chance to win a brand new Scooter weekly. The Hopper understands that three more summer parties are still to come: One on August 2 in Linden; one on August 9 at Blairmont Grounds in Berbice, and the final one is slated for August 24, at Bartica. After the parties finish, White said that a super concert will end the Red Hot happenings on September 5th at the National Stadium. Facts 2: The singers It’s no secret that the competition sizzled on stage with creations from seven of the nation’s most promising student designers. Commendation is in order for the coordinators who provided the forum that proved that Guyana’s designing/ fashion industry future is secure. There were however a few glitches, but most major of them all was the bad acoustics (sound carrying ability) of the venue used. This did not do too well for the guest performers despite the echoes Celeste David, Gialiani, Fojo and Timeka Marshal did manage their on-stage affairs well. Fojo as usual offered his international baritone laced flavours that addressed the “woman†folk; while the hopper notes that Gialiani and his clan member still has to work on their coordination, his sound is getting better. Timeka Marshall shows star quality After months of staying away from the local stage and working on projects in Jamaica, local songstress Timeka Marshall is proving that she’s got soul and stage pizzazz. On Thursday evening while the focus was on seven budding designers, she rocked the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall as a guest performer. Upon introduction, the audience response to her signature “murder†was lukewarm but this soon changed to celebration and sing along as she rhythmically showcased her stage appeal which easily mirrored Rihanna. First she hyped the audience with the famous “Hello†hook, and then she dished out her dancehall ‘Nothing at all.’ Her next track was the famous “Separate†that had the audience singing along. Before long her showcase of free spiritedness was worked into the rendition of “Freeâ€, but the cherry on the cake for her performance was the “No Ice-cream boyâ€. When patrons thought that Timeka was done, she asked the DJ to cut the sound track and she made herself comfortable at the stage’s edge and then it was time for something new in a la. The Hopper understands that while this song is still being mixed in Jamaica and no release date has been set ‘All night’ is definitely going to be a show stopper. The Hopper must note unlike other public performances her voice did not crack. http://www.guyanatimesgy.com/entertainment/entertainmen...e-you-missed-it.html |
