Newly-bought helicopter blows up at Tacama

On June 14, one of the two helicopters recently bought by the Guyana Government blew up at Tacama, and the craft has remained there ever since.
According to reports, the pilot was starting the chopper when the engine blew up. An examination revealed that the turbine had exploded, rendering the aircraft useless and causing it to be parked.
The authorities imported a new turbine, but they failed to get the aircraft operational. On Friday, they brought in yet another part.
Eyewitnesses say that, during the explosion, there was an extremely large fire. The fault was traced to the fuel control.
There have been criticisms of the helicopter from numerous quarters, with some contending that the money spent on the two helicopters, some US$1.5 million, could have bought a brand new craft and a used helicopter.
Sources close to the downed helicopter say that, prior to its arrival in Guyana, the helicopter had been flown for some 9,900 hours as a crop duster in Japan.
The political opposition has been asking that the purchase be taken to Parliament, so that there could be an investigation of the procurement. Government bought two helicopters to aid in the crime fight and to supplement the ailing large Bell 412, which has, in recent times, been spending more time on the ground than in the air.

Newly-bought helicopter blows up at Tacama

Notice how this news item was treated with great insignificance? It was not placed on the front page as the main or lead story.

Now, compare the front page coverage the copters received when they were first purchased and shipped to Guyana to fight crime. Consider the President and Head of the Presidential Secretariat making big speeches making about how effective they will be and slamming critics of the purchase.

Now we have this report of one of the copter's engine blowing up, the President and his HPS are dead silent.

But when we, the critics of the President and his government, make our big big speeches raking the inept and corrupt bunch running the country, we are called supporters of the PNC and the criminals and haters of Indians. The people calling us these names blind their eyes deliberately to the reality of what a failure the President is.

750,000 US dollars of TAXPAYERS' just blew up in the goverment's face and the government and its apologists scurried into dark crevices like the cockroaches they are. They can't stand the light of truth.

Perhaps fearful of being banned from OP and SH, the Kaieteur News writer of the story refused to invite the President and the HPS to comment on this major and embarrassing loss or what impact on crime will the loss have. No doubt, it will be huge. Ahemmmm!

I want to laugh so loud, but then this is too serious a matter to find humor in it.

Gerry Goveia, like Yesu Persaud, were correct in their assertions.

Note the SILENCE.

Should there not be a commission of inquiry into this nonsense? Back in the days we did investigate the purchase of a power barge, why not this fiasco?

Sadly, thousands of taxpayers money went into someone's pocket and the rest went down the drain when the 2 junk helicopters were purchased.
