It was a Monday on July 16th 1973 that Burnham held the national elections. He gave himself a two-thirds majority. Two men tried to hold on to the ballot boxes and were killed by the police. Everybody was calling each other Comrade and many coolies were drinking Burnham's soup. Don't forget your history.

Thanks for the info. On July 16th PNC got a two thirds majority and they were flying high. Cheddi was in the dumps and people thought he would never come back but they were wrong.

What about the myrtars in Agricola,Lindo Creek, Lusignan and Bartica. The PPP failed to protect them, they are more relevant today than those in 1973 who accomplished nothing with their loss of life since Burnham went on to more successful riggings and subsequent president for life. Jagan and his donkey's in the PPP did little or nothing to make those two lives count in the aftermath.

Bguard,

All these lives are significant in the history of Guyana. All the people {PNC and PPP supporters, black and indian} who lost their lives in the PNC led violence.

All of the should be remembered equally. Some were on the wrong side and some were on the right side, as history have shown. BUT THEY WERE ALL GUYANESE

True. Just call him King Kong and done. Luckily for Guyana the world has little tolerance for teh type of behaviuor that Burnham engaged in which will be the only fact preventing baby kong from completely growing up.

Scare Indos by blaming blacks. Neglecting to mention that blacks are also dying.

Jagdeo needs to spend less time making himself look like an idiot to the Antiguan media who know full well that a key reason for many of the mainly Afro composition of the Guyanese population there is the rampant racism they face in Guyana. He should find FineMan instead.

Stalin is correct. Today, 35 years ago is a day no one should forget at all. Burnham bulldozed his way and Carib and his ilk could not say a word. Now they are the biggest critics of Burnham because the man gone.

I doubt whether you saw the GDF stuffing ballot boxes at Houston....I agree that the GDF was heavily involved in the rigging but not at the polling places....the modus operandi was that the GDF take the boxes from the polling places to a central location in Georgetown where the boxes would be tampered with by PNC operatives....

The ballot box martyrs on the Corentyne tried to stop the hijacking of the boxes and were thus shot.....thats why the PPP's position was that the ballot boxes must be counted at the places of polling......

Let me describe clearly this event. In 1985 a truckload of soldiers turned up at Houston. They threw out Ram (the PPP guy) and Ms Radzik (the WPA lady). They then went in and made multiple votes even though their names were not on the list. It was reported later the same thing was done in other places on the East Bank as the moved south. I was with my father on that day...that's how we saw the events.

Now, in 1992 I was PPP polling agent in Agricola. We were stunned how well the election went all day. As a matter of fact, the locals were hardly coming out to vote. Then one hour before voting closed this massive crowd emerged to suddenly vote. Eventually the entire station was overrun by people screaming to vote that they were about to be disenfranchised. The police officer was harassed, I was pushed aside and the people themselves did multiple votes. No verification of whose names were on the list. I was asked to write a report. I did and gave it to Eddie Rodney (Walter Rodney's brother). Never heard about it again. So Churchill you and people like Stalinist probably migrated 30+ years ago. Yet you people are here showering sycophantic love on the PPP. I will now take the liberty and ask you :WHERE WERE YOU DURING THE DARK DAYS? Does that question sound familiar?

Now you are blaming the people of Wismar. Do you know how many people from Wismar died fighting the PNC? Do you know about Dublin, or Koahma?

TK, why are you beating up on Churchill? Who controlled the electoral process in 1992? It was the PNC and they did multiple voting. Dont make it out as if the PPP was responsible.
