"Obama's Private Prayer 'Leaked' "
Friday, Jul. 25, 2008 By TIM MCGIRK / JERUSALEM

- Let it be recorded that humility was the first note struck by Senator Barack Obama in announcing his...

Following Jewish tradition, Obama donned a yarmulke and went to the Western Wall, Judaism's holiest site, where shortly before dawn on Thursday he stuffed his prayer into a crevass between the giant white stones, hewn over 2,000 years ago. Traditionally such prayers, and there are over a million every year, some arriving by fax and email, are collected twice a year and buried on the Mount of Olives. It is considered taboo to read the prayers.

But after Obama and his entourage left the sacred site, an orthodox seminary student went to the Wall, fished out Obama's personal note and delivered it to Maariv newspaper, which duly printed the senator's prayer.

The newspaper's decision to publish Obama's private words was "an outrage", said Rabbbi Shmuel Rabinowitz, supervisor of the Western Wall. "It damages the personal, deep part of every one of us that we keep to ourselves," the rabbi told Army Radio. "The note placed between the stones of the Western Wall are between a person and his maker. It is forbidden to read them or make use of them."

Obama didn't pray for an election victory, a lottery win to help pay for his campaign, or for his Republican rival Senator John McCain to be felled by lightning or a pecadillo. On the contrary; his prayer hints at the struggle within, how Obama is seeking divine guidance to surmount the obstacles that lie ahead of him in his lonely, awesome challenge to become the next president of the United States. On hotel stationary, he penned the following prayer, according to Maariv, which ran a photo of the note: "Lord, protect my family and me," Obama wrote. "Forgive me my sins and help me guard against pride and despair. Give me the wisdom to do what is right and just. And make me an instrument of your will."

Obama, now finishing up the European leg of his tour, has not commented on his private prayer being made public in Jerusalem.

Let us not be gullible, Obama knew that his private prayer would be made public. One of his slick PR advisors probably wrote the prayer. Its all a stage act carefully orchestrated by his White handlers.

BGurd,

You know I never thought of that! Obama is such a slickster. To think a Harvard grad could ever conjure up the words for such a complex prayer just eluded me completely. And how pretentious of him to place his prayer in a sacred wall that contains a million prayers a year and which nobody usually tries to remove and read, but he knew very well someone would do just that!

Thanks for the epiphany, BGurd. Roll Eyes

Bguard,

I totally agree with you.

We need to remember that being black {even though he is mixed or as we would say in Guyana;a dugla} doesn't make you holier than thou.
If he is elected, the only difference would be, the first black president of the US. Everything will remain the same. He is in the pocket of some of the most anti-working class advisers in America.

I do not support McCain, but we must not get caught up with the media hype, about the possibility of the first black president. I f we look aroung the world, we have seen black leaders/presidents as corrupt, dictatorial and ruthless.

Let look for a president who will serve the people and not one who supports greedy corporations.

But other leaders have done that too, and their prayers were not publicized. Plus, don't forget that many isrealis prefer McCain. I wonder if they were trying instead to show something negative...and it did not work....
apart from that, whether one believes in this business or not, it is the height of arrogance to intercept a private prayer between a man (especially a Muslim :-) ) and his God. Obie shoulda pulled a Dave Chappelle on them and claim the wall in the name of (h)islam. isrealis, especially those of russian origin, have a wicked sense of humor too..despite what our press and conservative judaism try to portray of israel.

That's what the media thinks...They can't find any skeleton in his closet to nail him with, so they are trying desperately to concoct a story which just isn't there.. They do whatever will give them a good rating..

The prayers are secret and are slipped into a crevice in the wall. There are thousands of these notes to God and it it impossible to know who it is from.

This shows the materialistic nature of the Jews. A religious student dug the note out and sold it for a few shekels. The Jews have always put material gain in front of religion.

Actually what happened, Obama was caught on camera as stuffing a letter in the crack in the wall, he wrote to God.

Previously, Only Idi Amin has a telephone link with God..
