We have been so busy with our discussions on Guyana's deteriorating conditions under Baby Kong that we have missed out joining the world in sympathizing and empathizing with the people of China and Myanmar.
China, with 28,000 dead and 50,000 missing from Monday's earthquake, continues to get after shocks that are exacerbating the situation. A rising lake is now causing people to flee. Families who had only one child based on a Chinese law of one child per family to curb population growth, are now childless. And we have seen China, after decades of cold feelings towards Japan, opened its doors to Japan for emergency aid. With all of China's billions from global sales, it is not immune to devastations that billions cannot prevent or quickly remedy. In Myanmar, it is worse, because even though around 78,000 are feared dead, the military junta continues to exhibit a rare display of insensitivity to its own suffering people by refusing to accept foreign relief supplies. A French ship sits anchored off Myanmar's shores waiting for the green light to moor and off-load. British PM Brown blasted the junta for its uncaring display to its own people. Folks, Guyana does have its problems, but not on the same scale as China and Myanmar. However, given our small population, the effects of our problems on our fellow Gyanese should cause us to keep highlighting the failures of the Jagdeo government to do right by our people. In the last flood, Jagdeo and Corbin put aside their differences to help in a common cause. Today they are bickering and biting. What will it take for these guys to work tigether for Guyana's good? Another flood? An earthquake? And then what will happen to all the worldly goods the rich and famous in Guyana? Guyana will then become a leveled playing field and maybe that is what is needed to bring these idiots to their senses! Pray for China and Myanmar! Criticize the Jagdeo government, but pray it doesn't get more dictatorial and pray for peace in Guyana! |
