PM dissatisfied with law and order situation

Staff Report

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani lashed out at the intelligence agencies for ‘failing miserably’ in controlling terrorism and expressed ‘dissatisfaction’ over the general law and order in a federal cabinet meeting he chaired on Wednesday.

“Today’s cabinet (meeting) is haunted by the legacy of the Marriott Hotel suicide bombing,” Gilani said, referring to Saturday’s attack.

Gilani reaffirmed the government’s commitment to fight terrorism, urging the creation of a more comprehensive anti-terror strategy, it said. Gilani pledged to protect the country’s citizens, saying terrorists “did not have any ground to stand on”.

Interior Adviser Rehman Malik briefed the cabinet about the co-ordinated efforts between the Interior Ministry and the army to ensure peace in FATA.

The prime minister condemned the abduction of the Afghan consul general in Peshawar and said a search operation had been launched to recover the missing envoy.

The cabinet approved in principle a Finance Division proposal for consolidated supervision of the financial sector by the State Bank of Pakistan.

Money laundering: It also accorded approval in principle to the proposed amendments to the Anti-Money Laundering Ordinance of 2007 to address the financing of terrorism, expansion in the list of predicate offences and definition of money laundering in accordance with the best international practices.

The cabinet also approved an agreement with the Red Cross for a review of training curricula for police, visa abolition agreements with France and Guyana for holders of diplomatic and official passports, a narcotics control agreement with Tajikistan, and a double taxation avoidance agreement with Venezuela

But the agreement dies not cover everyone - only diplomatic passport holders. So it will only cover persons attending offical meetings in Pakistan.

Most Europeans dont need visas. If Barbados, St Lucia, Antigua, and Trinidad allowed as many Guyanese to migrate there as possible Guyana's population would drop.

You need someone like Carib to constantly be negative. It does wonders to team spirit.
