Guyana: Guarantee Food Security
Georgetown, Apr 8 (Prensa Latina) Guyana government boosts an initiative to revitalize pig breeding, as part of the effort to diversify agriculture and reduce food import. President of the Co-operative Republic of Guyana Bharrat Jagdeo exhorted local farmers to take advantage of this food market in the Caribbean. Jagdeo announced a looting registered last week against a flour transport in Trinidad y Tobago, a country of strong economy due to its oil reserves, like example of the nourishing crisis of the world. Some 46 hybrid boars bought in Surinam were distributed to farmers on Monday. This is the first time in 30 years that those reproductive animals are introduced in local industry, Agriculture Minister Robert Persaud assured. The project started by that Ministry, in collaboration with Guyana Defense Force, responsible of the breeding program and of the distribution of animals. Asked about this implication, GDF Col. Bruce Lovell said one of the primary objectives of that force is to contribute to the economic development of Guyana. About 119 pigs were bought for the beginning of the project, while other 37 were put at the disposal of the School of Agriculture for research aims. |

This is very feasible. A pig gives birth to as much as 12 little pigs at the same time..
Now Richmond hill coolies will be able to have their roast pork less expensive.. |

After 16 years in gov't only now the PPP gov't see the need to re-vitalize the pork industry. What a shame. Produce pigs at low cost and other countries will buy. I'm always hearing this relatively huge country with a small population is having difficulty producing enough chicken, lamb, and pork for domestic consumption. What a shame.

Needs to be done on a large scale. Animal feed now is very expensive for the small farmer. |

Look at this fool gloating about a robbery of oppurtunity in T&T acting as if he is the UNC B team in GT. I guess ppl in GT don't have a shortage of food there're well fed happy lil Indos under Jagdeo. Cops patrol Beetham Gardens By NEWSDAY REPORTER Saturday, April 5 2008 POLICE have intensified mobile patrols along the Beetham Highway and the nearby Beetham Gardens in the wake of Thursday’s looting of a transportation truck by several young men after the truck stalled along the highway in major traffic. On Thursday afternoon streams of young men erupted from the Beetham Estate and raided a stalled National Flour Mills (NFM) delivery truck. According to investigators, at about 5.30 pm, the truck broke down in the east bound lane of the highway close to the dump when looters descended like locusts removing tens of thousands of dollars worth of rice and flour. When Newsday visited the scene yesterday to speak with residents all that remained was a partially submerged bag of flour along the highway. Cautiously at first then a bit more boldly residents began to approach this reporter wanting to know why we were in the area. A female resident said since the incident no cooking gas delivery trucks were coming into the area to deliver 20 lbs gas tanks to residents. A man and his son were standing at the side of the road awaiting transport. The man said taxis hardly ventured into Beetham Gardens. Ingrid Simon, manager of Interior Harmony Ltd which is located on the southern side of the Beetham Highway in Sea Lots said the businessplace was robbed recently despite the fact that closed circuit cameras were installed. Simon said she believed the looting of the rice and flour was not carried out because of the increase in the price of these commodities but because of general lawlessness and the absence of a regular police presence in the area which emboldened the criminals to act in a brazen manner. A motorist commented: “Driving on the highway is a scary thing and the traffic is not getting better. Should I get attacked it’s me and my two year old baby. What do I do? How can you feel safe?†A Curepe to PoS taxi driver said he felt unsafe driving on the highway after sunset. “I don’t feel safe driving on the highway at night which is why I finish working at two in the afternoon he said.†Simone Harris, corporate communications manager at NFM said, “The issue of providing security for our trucks is definitely something to go back to the drawing board at our next board meeting.†Police sources said four suspects were detained in connection with the looting and investigations are ongoing. A discarded bag of flour in some bushes in the Estate. ON THE GO: Four motorcycle police officers ride along the Priority Bus Route after completing a patrol in the Beetham Estate yesterday. Tell Fagdeo to give his shyte ah ress 4 lil fellas robbing a broken down truck is not hungry blacks under the PNM fighting for meals, they thought they could make a quick buck but the Police caught up with them. Ask Jagdeo if they locate Fineman yet? |
