Amral, are you the admin here? Why are threads being closed and posts deleted without explanation?
The problem with wanting to switch sugar production into ethanol production is not a simple one and all factors need to be considered. The economic & environmental effects which may seem positive in the short term may lead to downturn in the long run. First of all there needs to be a determination if ethanol is a sustainable product; there are studies that have shown that the production of ethanol utilizes as much energy as would be created by its production. In light of the world food shortage, what should be considered is whether production of biofuels or production of food crops would be best. The Gov’t , I think, has painted themselves into a corner because of the Skeldon factory. |

Dont fool your self the biggest profits from fossil fuel are being made by American corporations and its not in their interest to change that for anytime soon. Brazil is 80% fossil fuel free with intention to be 100% by 2012. So the market for ethanol will be around for a while reguardless what alternative the rest of the industrial world comes up with. |

It's not practical given the current efficiencies/yield per acre. Brazil did it because of their large expanse of land which was cleared. This is impractical to be applied globally, the impact of the environment will be catasthrophic. |
