Another teacher accused of sexually molesting first form student
Even as investigations into a sexual affair involving a female teacher and a male student at the Richard Ishmael Secondary School are ongoing, an incident of similar nature has surfaced at another government school. Reports are that a male teacher of the Charlestown Government School sexually molested a female first form student. This newspaper was informed that the incident which occurred on Tuesday has already been brought to the attention of the school’s Parent-Teacher's Association (PTA), although there have been calls for it to be suppressed. It was reported that on Tuesday the student received a message to meet a female teacher in the technical department but was however met by the male teacher. PIC: The Charlestown Government School It is alleged that the teacher coerced the young girl to remain in the room during which time he fondled her breast and placed his finger into her vagina. This newspaper understands that the distraught child even related to the teacher that she was having her menstrual cycle and had begged him to stop, to no avail. Overwhelmed with embarrassment and disbelief the young child kept the incident to herself until she reached home. To her mother’s dismay the child related the details of the disturbing ordeal she was forced to endure. Accompanied by her mother, the young child returned to the school yesterday where the incident was related to senior teachers who advised the mother to report the matter directly to the headmistress. Threatening to take the matter to the police, the mother informed the headmistress of the situation but was asked not to take the matter any further. But according to members of the PTA, the matter should be taken to the relevant authorities, including the Education Ministry and the police, as soon as possible since the very teacher has been the perpetrator of several similar acts at the school in the past. They disclosed that not only has the matter been suppressed time and time again but the teacher continues to remain a prominent member of the school. In an invited comment yesterday, the headmistress admitted that the incident which occurred on Tuesday was reported to her and that she is aware of other reports that the same teacher was involved in similar matters but added that she was not stationed at that school at the time She also admitted that she had cautioned the mother of the child not to take the matter further since she needed to hear the teacher’s side. She, however, divulged that the teacher does not usually stay away from school but for some reason he did not come yesterday. She further disclosed that she was not in receipt of any sick report, adding that it is strange that the teacher did not turn up at school. This newspaper was reliably informed that the teacher had gone to work yesterday but left soon after he spotted the student and her mother. The headmistress said that once the teacher comes forward and shares his version of the story the matter will be placed in the hands of the relevant authorities with the Education Ministry gaining first preference. She also expressed her desire to have the matter remain low-key since she does not want to tarnish the integrity of the school.. What version is this fool expecting the pedophile to share? That the child consented to the assault? This old hag is more concerned about the integrity and tarnished reputation of her school than the welfare and safety of a child. Would it be sweet justice for this heartless clown and the pedophile whom she is more concerned about, to end up as cell mates, where hopefully they both get sodomized by adonkey! |

The HM should be arrested for abetting the 'alleged' criminal. These are the teachers of our children?

This Head Mistress needs to understand she has no input in the matter other than turn it over to the police. Even the Ministry of Education is outside the loop except in its discipline of the headmistress and her callous crew. Sexual assault is a crime of a grievous nature and offenders, especially an apparently serial offender, is not suspect to reform.
These jackasses, from the Headmistress to the Teacher and every other who know of this and not report it, needs to be sanctioned. The former two needs to be dismissed. I wonder where Manickchand on this. Of Course they hide under their rocks at convenient times when their voices needs to be heard on crucial issues. |

The callous and shameless indifference to sexual exploitation of children, as exhibited here by this headmistress is idicative of a greater malaise in society. Imagine, other teachers and the headmistress was aware of the fact that this bastard has been the perpetrator of several similar acts at the school in the past. yet nothing was done about it. Teachers are suppose to be the moulders and shapers of society and our tomorrows. So where is their sense of pride in proffession & fiduciary duty to those in their charge? Is it any wonder that the numbers among the 'Skinny Charles' and 'Fineman Rollin' are growing expotentially! Unfortunately, the barometer on moral rectitude and ethical values seems to be on a free fall all around - Minister behaving like public drunk, Magistrate carrying on like fish mongers, 14 years old involved in gang rapes and now teachers having sex with minors...Where and when does it stop? Wake up Corhee Rohee! Wake up Manickchand! Wake up Desree Fox! |

This child is to be commended for having the courage to go and tell her mother. Too often the children in these cituations feel a sense of shame and hide these acts from their parents.
The head mistress in this case should be fired. Why would she discourage the parent from going to the relevant authorities? Lets hear from the Minister of Social Services, or does she think that this girl asked for it also? |

You do not wait for the teacher to come in to work and ask him for an explanation. You get the cops to go and find him and arrest him. Then you start the interrogation process. After all this is a minor.

Sexual molestation, harassment reports being investigated
– Minister Baksh The Ministry of Education has expressed concern over several reports of alleged sexual harassment and molestation and has mounted its own investigations. Minister of Education, Shaik Baksh has indicated that the ministry is now prompting investigations and based on the findings it will be recommending that the Teaching Service Commission (TSC) take strong legal action in all of the cases. Minister of Education, Shaik Baksh The ministry has also taken action to curb sexual harassment and molestation in schools. “We are at the present time putting a large number of school welfare officers to monitor the situation and to work in the schools to ensure that these things do not occur in the school system,†Minister Baksh said. The Minister said that over the last few weeks, the ministry has had several reports about sexual harassment and sexual molestation in some schools and the ministry is very much concerned about this development. He said five teachers are being investigated by the ministry and the police. Among the cases is the alleged involvement of 13 to 17 year old students in raping students at a Charlestown home. He said while it is alleged that this was occurring after school hours and on Saturdays in particular, the police have been called in and they are investigating the matter. With respect to the case involving a teacher at the Charlestown Secondary school, for sexually assaulting a first form student, the Education Minister said that the teacher has been arrested and charged by the police. A third case mentioned by the minister involves a female teacher whom he said has since resigned, and a male student. He said that her resignation would be forwarded to the TSC for a dismissal. The head teacher of the Goed Fortuin Primary School in Region Three has also been accused of sexually assaulting a Form One student. “The police again have been involved in this matter and the Department of Education in Region Three has been investigating. In all of these cases the Ministry has been investigating and reports have been submitted,†the Minister reiterated. He reported that in one school there is an attempt by the head teacher to suppress reports of this matter and “We are taking a serious view of that and we will also be investigating teachers as well as their negligence and will be taking appropriate action against teachers of these schools because in cases when these things are happening in the school, the head teachers must be monitoring these situations and must promptly report these matters to the ministry.†Expressing the need for more moral education in schools, he pointed out that the ministry has a health and family life education programme for which the curriculum is being designed, and which will be included in schools from September. In underscoring the important role of parents in children’s care, Minister Baksh urged that they monitor their activities and be vigilant at all times, not only in the school but outside of school hours and at weekends. “I call upon parents to ensure that they take care, give their children the necessary guidance to keep this incidence from occurring.†He disclosed that he has had discussions with the Chairperson of the TSC on the cases and he is confident that they will take the strongest action. Seems like the Minister Of Education has has finally woken from his deep slumber. The culprit has been arrested and charged. Hope the head mistress would be sanctioned for her idiotic response and inaction in this matter. Perhaps someone in authority is reading GNI |

Sexual abuse has been happening since I was at Rama Krishna. But back then, people were insensitive to the effects of this behavior. I am glad that there is more attention given to them now.
