It is rather difficult to debate issues with individuals when every debate is hijacked. Argumentation becomes histories of trauma and victimization and hardly ever about the initial issue. While I suspect this is sometimes a political tact of specific individuals, it is also about he lack of formal discipline to keep the debate on track. Moderation can help here.
Maybe we need a debating forum where a set format can be formalized and challenges made to specific individuals to debate topical issues. Each would have three rounds, formal presentation and rebuttal and then a conclusion Comments by others can be made here on the forum directly. I am getting bored with constantly arguing the same points to the same people with the same non response or universal response being race and victimization. |

I agree with a debating forum with set rules and guideline.
I also like your write-up for it closely reflects my view on the matter. |

During my three years here, I have never seen a topic on track, and to correct that is just wishful thinking. A moderator can only be helpful if he/she have an indept knowledge of every debatable political topic, and knows how to apply the rules that governs such topic from derailing. Furthermore, he have to attend to the BB 24/7, unless these special discussion have a daily schedule and time slot, etc. To eliminate a free style response into a three rounds contest is not going to work unless the forum software is design and program for live referee interaction to eliminate members after three rounds and all the rebuttal that goes with it. Finally, I personally think you (D2), baseman, and the communicator are three good candidates for the job. However, the candidates must be unbias and neutral which is difficult based on your style and belief on subject matter. Baseman: He is mildly bias and have to work on his hype. Communicator: Truly believe in a global community forum and open to discuss sensitive issues with/out personal affection. D2: You are "unbias" as you proclaimed to be, very rearly agrees with your opponents, and you add personal feelings on public matters. You can also be a pain in the arse, but up to par to be a good political moderator with your experience on the BB. I may vote for you as my best pick. This message has been edited. Yall doing just what the man is talking about, derailing the topic. I am not giving him credit, but agree with his call, and would support him. I am not a real bastard as some would think. I stand on my own two feet when I am not sleeping.

I just point out the characteristic of each individual. May be I am right about adding personal feeling, rather to correct me if I am wrong. To say I did injury to you from my stupid impression, make it more obvious. |

I hope you don't use sarcasm in political moderating to give the debators the wrong impression of what you really meant. You will derail that speeding train so often from its track. |

this site doesn't need active moderation. its the rogue members that need to be removed. Juno, Nehru, baseman and rama. get rid of them and the site would greatly improve.

Caribj never stick to the topic either nor does kidmost. At that rate we would empty the board if they are all kicked off. A formal debate section will ensure we actually have records of what people say and believe. Additionally, the peanut gallery can club each other on the head on a parallel thread as usual anyways. I know you have peeped over on IIDB so you can see the advantages of the format over there where we endure infighting that is 100's of times worse since it is often the egoes of people making a living in the respective fields that is often getting brutalized. It is especially advantageous there also given they have some 24 thousand members with some 3 thousand being active at any time. |

Excellent idea D2, taking us back to High School. However this is not realisitc. Only serious individuals will partake in such discussion where opinions have to be supported by actual evidence. How many serious debaters do we have on GNI? There is no fun in such type of debate and it is way too formal. Also who will determine the winner and why do we need to determine a winner? Debates on politics do not have a finite conclusion it is an ongoing dynamic process. Besides we all know you will win these types of debates with your big words and fence sitting ideals, in other words such a format will only benefit you.

COME ON GUYS, STICK TO THE TOPIC OF THIS THREAD. You are all displaying a tendency to deflect and dive into a cesspool of personal attacks. The discussion on hand is moderation and "stick-to-it-ism".
Prince Juno you see, I never commented and the thread went hay-wire. These Guyanese people lack discipline, this is who Pfatt Boy inroduced National Service...oops, sorry, back to the topic. This message has been edited. Last edited by: baseman, |
