PPP/C Member of Parlia-ment Moses Nagamootoo in an invited comment to the GPA said, “This [the decision] is unnecessary and unprecedented, this kind of sanction cannot be the answer to issues of fairness and balance, this marks a new low in the relationship between the state and the media.â€

With all fairness to the matter, I don't think Moses have any business to second guess the President decision.

WOW You can disagree with the president and not end up dead next morning. Guyana is really a True Democracy. Moses should have been taken at least for a helicopter ride over the Mighty Essequibo

Your post is not too clear. What do you mean? Mr.Nagamootoo has the right to comment as he was a journalist in Guyana for many years. He is also a member of parliament. Mr.Nagamootoo was also the minister of Information when the PPP won the elections in 1992. |

What is the difference between being kill for political disagreement, and being killed by a frankenstein created to do the job? |

I see that you have corrected your post. Mr.Nagamootoo is not "second guessing" the president. He is voicing his opinion as he was a journalist at one time. The way I read it is that at this crucial time when the president and the government are under a lot of scrunity it was not wise to "ban" a reporter from presidential functions. |

Mr. Moses Nagamootoo, a former journalist who has never spent time in Soviet Union during the PNC days, is absolutely correct.

When you want to make correction to someone, you first have to learn to understand the meaning between a request and a demand. You don't tell people to shup up. |

I wish to correct you too. Read clearly what was said. Try to understand it before you post again. It was a statement and not a request nor a demand. |

In your case the word "shup up" is a blunt statement. Do I need to make further clarification of your crude intent to be the sole opinionated person here? Let's keep it simple, madam! |

I do not want a fight with you or I could just have walked over to your office and oblige. My statement which you were confused about is in rebuttal to the unnecessary descriptive by another poster in reference to mr.nagamootoo. |

Nagamootoo's position is absolutely correct and principled. It is also courageous since I am sure that he understands that this would undermine his position as a presidential candidate.
It is truly tragic that a party that suffered so much in terms of denial of press freedom would engage in behavior of this type. It would be interesting to hear Janet Jagan's position on this matter in view of her recent article about freedom the press (she did oppose the withdrawal of ads from the Stabroek News). It would have been wise for the other members of the press to refuse to attend press conferences at the OP until this reporter is reinstated and the government accepts that it cannot dictate to a free press who can and cannot cover press conferences. |

What Moses do if he becomes the President and someone of his ministers criticized him? I can see why Janet didn't choose Moses to replace her as President. You know why TK? The same reason you were overlooked for promotion in Guyana.. There isn't going to be a third coming of Moses Nagamootoo. Neither the AFC nor the PNC will take him.. |

Such remark would be ones opinion when taken part in a third party dialog. You and I have the (option) to defend such remark or stay neutral as we sees fit. |

Yes, I know why? She wanted a young Indian who was going to be the complement for a white woman President and an African Prime Minister? She was hoping the young Indian person would be a little yes man. |

Moses is correct to make that statement since the action against the journalist is precisely what the PPP opposed when it was in the Opposition. There are many others in the PPP leadership who oppose the president's action, but they do not have the courage to voice it. No wonder since 29 of them signed a statement a few years ago saying that they did not hear what they actually heard! Politicians must have "thick skins" and must be able to take sharp criticisms from journalists. The action against the journalist is coming out as one done through spite. On the point of a president being criticised by cabinet ministers, well, that is one of the purposes of a cabinet meeting. Ministers should be frank in discussing the president's policies; such discussions obviously would not be aired publicly. |
