Burnham rigged the referendum and imposed a dictator constitution on the people of Guyana.

Unfortunately 30 yrs after the suppossedly democratic PPP is making good use of the same constitution and did nothing to change it.

In public the PPP always critize Burnham and the PNC. However, at Freedom House, the PPP are joyful and pleased in governing under this dictatorial contitution. They have no plans to chnage it.

After this rigged referendum Guyanese started to flock to the WPA including PPP supporters.

It is also instructive to note that a certain now critic of the PNC today was one of the major supporters of the then magic victory by Burnham.

and who is this person?

None other than one Dr Tara Singh.

Deep deep ideological differences. Hoyte also despised the Jagans.

Personally I like Mr Hoyte as a President. But his post 1997 actions would set the PNC back for 20 years.

The PNC is dead and for good reasons.

The P.P.P. should use the constitution and make the Guyanese people eat grass. Instead they abandoned the constitution and let captialism flourish.

He never rigged any referen. My father created the base for Guyana. He created the foundation for Guyana.

I am glad my father banned international food, it was all junk. The international market was sending Guyana all Junk. we grow our own food. and was healty. Thanks to my POPS

I think that's nonsense. Any admirer of fatboy was for his charisma, not his policies. I attended a few Sophia meetings and a couple of fatboy birthday parties, and what I noticed was admiration through fear. They feared the man, so they pretended admiration.

Guyana never instituted any hard core communist policies. They were playing at being socialists, and reading the little red book, and experimenting with a planned economy, but half heartedly. Guyana has always been a capitalist country, and the people have always been capitalistic minded.
