In the recent PPP Congress, Anil Nandlall, a lawyer and PPP MP, gained some votes for the Central Committee and may be on the government’s shortlist of candidates to replace Attorney General and former Chairman of GECOM, Doodnauth Singh.

But who really is Anil Nandlall?

The guy was specially appointed a prosecutor by the State in the case brought by now deceased Guyana Energy Authority boss, Joseph O’Lall, against Buddy Shivraj in the major fuel bust case that wound up being dismissed. Fuel smuggling, like drug smuggling, is a big business in Guyana, and government is known to have been rather lax in applying the laws here. What happened to the big Splashmin's fuel bust?

The case itself dragged on a for what seemed like an eternity, but while the case was still under litigation, President Bharrat Jagdeo struck a secret deal for Buddy’s to receive 168 million dollars to expedite completion of his hotel in 2007. It gave the appearance of impropriety that the State would lend taxpayers’ money in a secret deal to a person facing trial in a criminal case being pursued by the State. The deal was eventually renegotiated after Buddy’s couldn’t make repayments and allowed Buddy’s to later sell his completed hotel for a profit.

But before the hotel was sold, the President fired O’Lall for what reportedly was a violation of a Cabinet order on GEA’s finances, though no stealing was done. Individuals who clearly have violated the laws associated with the Lotto money and the Consolidated Fund have lots of questions to answer in the handling of finances under their purview, so compared with corrupt and criminal acts of other government employees still on the job, O’Lall’s infraction was a petty misdemeanor. Not a crime!

And not long after O’Lall was fired, a new magistrate took the Buddy’s fuel smuggling case and dismissed it, describing it as asking one to fetch water in a basket. Special prosecutor Nandlall nonchalantly said he plans to appeal, but given how the case ended up, was Nandlall in it to win it for the State? Why exactly did the President appoint him a special prosecutor in the first place?

Then there was the special meeting between Oliver Hinckson and Nandlall after Hinckson offered himself as a mediator between the State and armed criminals. Hinckson said Nandlall presented himself as an emissary of the President while Nandlall countered he spoke with Hinckson in a setting of lawyer-client privilege.

Hinckson was then asked to report to Eve Leary for questioning; after that meeting and has since been charged with sedition and terrorism, and remains in lock down with no bail.

Was Hinckson charged based on what he said when Mayor Green gave him the mike to make his public offer as a mediator? Was he charged based on what he told Nandlall, a PPP MP, member of the PP Central Committee and one-time special prosecutor appointed by the President? Or was he charged based on what he said during his Eve Leary interrogation? Take your pick as to where he may have been quoted or misquoted, but please pay special attention to the conflict that arose in determining what role Nandlall played: lawyer or political emissary!

Bonus,

As a Christian, why would you want to suggest anyone be found dead?

I hope Admin is paying attention to death threats veiled as possibilities.

What do you know of Anil Nandlall that would cause you to want to seem him found dead?

Pray tell!

As for Roger Khan, he is going through a lot of trials right now, languishing in solitary confinement. When he will be tried is not known, but he is not being moved around from one lock down to another. His health is being closely monitored. He is being fed a good daily diet. He is well protected against other dangerous criminals.

Unlike the men and youths he helped kill rather than bring to justice, he will have his day in court and face American justice. The Guyana Government failed to ensure he faced justice there because he had the government 'bought'!

Burnhamson,

I thought I misread him, but I'd rather read his response.

Anyway, who is killing whom? Or who will be dead! Me? Nandlall?

Why should either one of us turn up dead? Neither one of us killed anyone, as far as I know!

My only other gut reaction to Bonus' post is that Bonus knows Nandlall or is Nandlall! Either way, his response is not based on the question I posed!
