The PPP knew that the PNC will target and kill a minister but did little to stop it.

from political
Daren D. I hope you don't mind Sawh was more than "relatively minor" in the PPP. Whenever PPP supporters rebelled by mounting protests (e.g Black Bush, Bush Lot [West Berbice] the PPP sent Sawh to pacify them. He was very popular among the PPP supporters. |

Asif, i hope you don't mind either.
i am readin this to a relative as i type ---------------------------------- From GINA Minister of Home Affairs expresses shock at colleague’s assassination Georgetown, GINA, April 22, 2006 Minister of Home Affairs, Gail Teixeira has expressed shock and is disturbed by the brutal execution of Minister of Agriculture (ag), Fisheries, Other Crops and Livestock, Satayadeo Sawh, MP, along with his brother, Rajpat Rai and Sister Phulmattie Persaud, and his security guard, at approximately 12:45hrs on Saturday April 22, at the Minister’s residence, Earle’s Court, La Bonne Intention (LBI), East Coast Demerara. Additionally, two security guards are currently receiving medial attention at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) while another is in critical condition. Another brother of the Minister was also shot and is receiving medical attention. The Guyana Police Force is conducting investigations into this heinous attack, and will be holding a press conference later today. Minister Teixeira, other Government officials and the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Winston Felix were at the scene of the slaying this morning. The Minister extends sympathy to the family of the bereaved. Meanwhile, President Bharrat Jagdeo has summoned emergency meetings of the Cabinet and the Heads of the security forces to discuss this disturbing development. TOP Reflection on the life and work of Satyadeow Sawh Georgetown, GINA, April 22, 2006 Born on June 13, 1955 in Central Mahaicony, Region Five, Satyadeow Sawh emerged as a leader, a diplomat, a politician, a family and religious man, a dedicated father and a loving husband, an achiever, a representative of all Guyanese, particularly in the last few years, farmers. For years as a country dweller, he struggled with his family to attain a good education and a good life with family, his wife Satti Sawh and two sons Roger Sawh and David Sawh. He pursued and attained his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Economics/Business from York University, Toronto, Canada in 1982, a Certificate in Accounting and Business from the Ryerson Polytechnical Institute, Toronto, Canada, 1978. He no doubt made his name known in Guyana, the Caribbean and North America. During the years 1975 and 1992, Minister Sawh served as a member and President of the Association of Concerned Guyanese (ACG) and the political representative of the People’s Progressive Party in Canada. He was also Editor in Chief of the "Guyana Current" Newspaper - Toronto, Canada. From 1993 to 1996 Satyadeow Sawh served as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Guyana to the Republic of Venezuela, Columbia and Ecuador. For his diplomatic service he was invested with the Order of Francisco Miranda of Venezuela and received several community awards in Venezuela and Canada. Satyadeow Sawh returned to Guyana in the mid-1990’s at the invitation of His Excellency President Bharrat Jagdeo to boost his Cabinet and serve his fellow Guyanese. In 1996 he was appointed Minister of Fisheries, Other Crops and Livestock with responsibility for Forestry. And in 2003 he was also tasked with the responsibility of Acting Minister of Agriculture. He was dedicated to his work with farmers and continued to strive to diversify the agricultural base of Guyana’s economy. Minister Sawh since 1996 also served as a Member of the National Assembly. He will be remembered for his incomparable support to farmers especially during the January/February 2005 and 2006 floods. Minister Sawh was assassinated together with his brother, Rajpat Rai and sister, Phulmattie Persaud, who were visiting for the first death anniversary of his mother on April 21 at his La Bonne Intention home. Guyana has lost another great son of the soil. |
