Mon Repos = French?

La Penitance = Spanish? i barn dea bro flag

La Penitence belonged to a Frenchmen. He killed his brother in France and escaped to Guyana and bought the estate. The older hre grew he became more and more penitent. Hence the name, La Penitence.

On reflection I retract my explanation. I was talking about Le Lepentir Cemetery. Is the cemetery in La Penitence? If so, my explanation could the be correct.

...yes... it takes you into La Penitence. In the early 70's part of the land was converted to open up South Georgetown Govt' Secondary School; hence it was called the burying ground school...

Who asked about Hackney?

Hackney, is a village standing on the eastern bank of the Pomeroon River, about 11 km from the mouth of the river.

Georgetown was founded by the British in 1781 and named for King George III. It passed for a while to the French, who largely rebuilt it, and in 1784 to the Dutch, who called it Stabroek. Regaining control in 1812, the British government restored the name Georgetown and made the city the colonial capital of British Guiana. In 1966 it became the capital of independent Guyana. This is where the influence comes from in the village names.

Sephardic Jews who were known as the Gypsies of the Jews, as the Gypsies of the Jews, sort of like a lower caste Jew... they came from the Moors Regions of Spain, Portugal and even some middle eastern areas... Paula Abul's father is a Sephardic Jew, Actor Hank Azaria is Sephardic, their features are among the charateristics of the sect... again, there's also the more recent in the times of Hitler when people ran from the extinction process. Jews and Germans of Jewish decent as well as someof the killers of Jews. But if you check their history they were once the elit class of Jews for their education, wealth, non-discriminatory manner and ability to live in harmony with Muslim neighbors, it was in North African that the became known as a lower class being outnumbered by Muslims of that continent.

As a matter of fact when the Allies were trying to find a homeland for the Jews at the end of WWII, Guyana was nominated by the British for that purpose. I waonder what our history would have been like if the Jews had not insisted on Israel.]
