I figured the Dutch ones and the English ones but the ones like Betsy Ground or Miss Phoebe makes me wonder.

I grew up in Miss Phoebe. The old folks used to call it Missibee. I visted there just a few weeks ago. Beautiful place.

I saw the set set and rise over Palymra, syria. Gives me goose bumps recalling that fable city.My feet touched its soil where the famous queen zenobia walked.

La Penitence belonged to a Frenchmen. He killed his brother in France and escaped to Guyana and bought the estate. The older hre grew he became more and more penitent. Hence the name, La Penitence.

On reflection I retract my explanation. I was talking about Le Lepentir Cemetery. Is the cemetery in La Penitence? If so, my explanation could the be correct.

I think GNI has a fairly good representative of the different ethnic makeup of Guyana. I worked with a lady in Guyana who outwardly looked 100% African, except that one of her ancestors was a Dutch - and her surname was the only clue as to her "white" heritage.

True... we also had Rainbird, you know my mixed up German, Portuguese, Chinese, Black and Amerindian concoctions is always my resource for our multi-ethnic background. Smile
