My father was named for his father's boss, he was born in March and was named by the Irish Superintendent for St. Patrick's day...

There were also Scottish and Welsh plantation owners and overseers. Also a number of Irish soldiers were sent to British Guiana to help "keep the peace" and to prevent slave rebellion. One such soldier was Staunton St. Claire who spent 3 years in BG around 1805-1808.

...true, our own Queenie/Moira is of Scottish decent, her father ran a sugar plantation..

Its not Terry Gajraj?

Terry is famous enough but I was thinking of internationally famous writer and academician, Jan Carew.

Yo Freak: Do you know my buddy Haroon Khan? We went to school at Howard University together but he now lives in Boca Raton.

I think GNI has a fairly good representative of the different ethnic makeup of Guyana. I worked with a lady in Guyana who outwardly looked 100% African, except that one of her ancestors was a Dutch - and her surname was the only clue as to her "white" heritage.

This is a very nice thread...I was always fascinated by the villages names.

I figured the Dutch ones and the English ones but the ones like Betsy Ground or Miss Phoebe makes me wonder.
