I answered this about 4 or 5 posts above.

It is on the West Bank of Demerara between vreed-en-hoop and Pouderoyen.

the area around West Dem School.

there is even an elementary school called Malgre tout.
I used to take lessons there from the principal of the school to write the then Teacher's third year exam.

But yes, I am from Wismar, or more accurately: West Watooka. My time was spent chasing buck gyals.
I know little of the history, except that I was already born and witnessed the decimation of the local Indian population in 1963.
There was a thriving saw mill that employed a lot of folks, until it got burnt down by unknown assailants of dark appearance.

When you cross that bridge from McKenzie to Wismar, the area to the left of the bridge was once an Indian village. Time has watered down the population and many have moved away. But in the 50's and 60's it was a big community. Many of them worked for my grandfather. We once owned large sways of land around there. Much of it has been sold off to build new houses. Mind you, the contents of the "will" as produced after the death of my grandfather makes me suspect that some of us in the family were swindled. But that's another story.

Don't know about origins, but places I remember are:

Speightland and Dalawalla: located some 3 miles in the Lower Demerara from Linden.

Moblissa: located east of the Soesdyke Linden Highway.

Wiruni, Wikki/ Calcuni and Kwakwani, DeVeldt, Geatroy, Kimbia, Ebini, Fort Nassau, Ebini.

West Watooka: on the right Bank of the Demerara.

Yaar, I was barn at New Amsterdam Public Hospital, and grew up at Plantation Maida, Corentyne Berbice, which back then was a plantation and not a village yet. It was owned by Amin and Ahmad Sankar. You got Kildonian, Bushlot Village, Pln Farm, PLN Maida, Philipy, Chromorty, Welligton Park, Eversham, Brighton, Bengal, 43 Village... something like this.

All of the leaders of the 1913 Rosehall protests were Muslims - Moula Bux, Jahangir Khan, Dildar Khan, Chotey Khan, Aladi, and Amirbaksh -- stood up to the injustices on the plantations (as referenced by Basdeo Mangru in one of his publications).

Moula Bux was the "Bachus" I mentioned....went to school with one of his grandsons who unfortunately passed away in 2003...

The British were more interested in trapping the kulies and deculturing them versus the Dutch who were more humane in allowing the kulies to sustain their culture.

Go read my pieces, the dutch taught the children of Hindus and Muslims Hindustani and built for them masjids and mandirs. As well, the dutch governor by decree and against the Surinamese Parliament, adopted the Asian Marriage act. The indians were lucky as well because governor Kalendra came from Indonesia and he looked on the asian favourably. He was a professor. The highway from the airport to paramaribo is name, the Indian Ghandi Way.
