How many of you said this prayer at least once in your life regardless of your religious back ground.

(Non-Christians) If you did, had you any regrets or shame after you realized it was not the prayer of your religious belief?

The Lord's Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven,
Hallowed be thy Name.
Thy kingdom come.
Thy will be done,
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
As we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
But deliver us from evil.

From any religious viewpoint, there appears to be nothing objectionable with this prayer.

I love this prayer, reminds me of Surah Al-Fatiha (The Opening) in the Holy Quran

In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Praise be to God, the Lord of the Universe
The Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
King of the Day of Judgment
You alone we worship, and You alone we ask for help
Guide us to the straight way;
The way of those whom you have blessed, not of those who have deserved anger, nor of those who stray.

If the prayer is taken as it really is, then it presents a theological conundrum for post-Nicene christians. It can have no objection from Jews, Muslims, Bahais, Hindus (who would see a lot of symbolism in it).

Incidentally, the first 7 verses of the second chapter (Al Baqaraa) answers Al Faatiha's prayer and stated that that giude is the Qur'an.

Like the Qur'an says; "the seven often repeated verses and the Grand Qur'an. Ma'shallah.

The prayer is about the father and ignores praising thine mother.

Julie: apart from IcipS astute response, the issue of prayer in school, and that particular one, does NOT cover all religions..buddhism and jainism for example. Plus schools were are secular. And the prayer itself comes from a christian background...because of the nonsensical animosity that exists between people of faith, that identification alone would void it. The same way a few jackasses in CA a fews ago wanted to deny a pandit the honor of opening a leg. session with a prayer. That is the paradox of religion....God, you see, can only love ONE set of nincompoops, poor God's heart is so limited that she has to see a therapist to learn about loving ALL humankind. The problem is of course, if that therapist happens to be a jew, muslim, or christian....educated in a seminary background...like say...liberty university...and so the circle goes...

Don't worry. He does. Anyone with such beautiful kids knows prayer..but i see what you mean.
But I do have a general question. How can we expect PJ to know the meaning of prayer, when pore, sweet, innocent, INNOCENT, INNOCENT dara...when he was getting his INNOCENT arse busted by him mom would be.."O sweet Gawd, ah begging you, doan leh mommy beat me up"...and sometimes for extra emphasis since I went to cartalic school, I would hold Mary's portrait..and yet dat there gawd let the lady cut my baxside. I mean, what justice was dat?
Can't a likkle boy do mischief? I mean look at satan and what he do. nobody not cut him down. And dem say "wait till judgmetn." Why couldn't old lady say dat? All of the above is to prove..hic..that prayer is useless.
(I was at a party last night, and even though I did not touch the stuff, it seems I a bit..hic..drunk.)
