Tonight: ABC Tests Public Reaction to Anti-Muslim Bias
...What if you witnessed "Islamophobia" in action and saw someone being victimized because of someone else's prejudices? What would you do? ABC's production crew outfitted a bustling roadside bakery north of Waco, Texas, with hidden cameras and two actors. One played a female customer wearing a traditional Muslim head scarf, or hijab. The other acted as a sales clerk who refused to serve her and spouted common anti-Muslim and anti-Arab slurs. The polarity of reactions was shocking, from support to seething disapproval. Never did we expect customers to be so passionate or candid. Watch the premiere of "Primetime: What Would You Do?" tonight at 10 p.m. EST on ABC. - What Would You Do if You Witnessed Anti-Muslim Bias? Thank ABC for Highlighting Islamophobia, Support for Muslims
CAIR today called on American Muslims and other people of conscience to thank ABC "Primetime" for a segment that highlighted both the Islamophobic attitudes present in our society and the support ordinary citizens of all faiths will offer to those targeted by bias. To test Islamophobic attitudes, ABC outfitted a Texas bakery with hidden cameras and had actors play a female customer wearing an Islamic head scarf, or hijab, and a sales clerk who refused to serve her. The actor playing the clerk also used anti-Muslim slurs. [Primetime's "What Would You Do?" segments seek to find out how ordinary people react when faced with sticky situations.] SEE A CLIP: Encountering Prejudice (ABC) ACTION REQUESTED: CONTACT ABC "PRIMETIME" to thank the producers for highlighting both Islamophobia and the kindness of those who will not tolerate anti-Muslim hatred. I managed to look at part of the show from ABC. Will buy this for my class. It is, for once, relatively objective.
The funny part was when one jackass came up with the line "I don't see Xians or Jews sending suicide bombers." WEre a good writer there, s/he would have asked the diff. between the carnage of a suicide bomber, and that of an air launched missile on a Pal or Afg village.... |
