Story before I leff fi my home.
Last night, salman ahmad told a beautiful story.
The song is "bolay aao."
Guy is studying in madrasa. Taught to make wudu. He asks, "but teacha, if i clean my outerparts, but not my heart, what is the use?
Teacher had no answer...so the guy left.
Moral?
Many of us focus on the ritual of washing. All well and good. But it is just a ritual. As the water is running off, we should imagine our heart also being purified. I found the story riveting.
The difference between symbolism and what ther real aim is....and which brings up a point as to why in the Muslim and Hindu traditions, water, running water is so symbolic. It moves...washes away the nastiness in your hearts.
