Threats for breaking Morocco fast
Unemployed protesters eating before dawn
These unemployed protesters ate in public - before dawn

Source
  • A Moroccan man campaigning to change the law banning eating in public during the Muslim Ramadan fast says he has received 100 death threats this week.

  • Radi Omar denied that his group was anti-Islam. "We are in favour of individual freedom," he told the BBC.

  • Six of his colleagues are in custody after planning to eat in public last Sunday and he demanded their release.

  • Mr Omar said they were being well treated but he assumed they were not being fed during the fasting hours.

  • The group, known as the Alternative Movement for Individual Freedoms (Mali), has more than 1,200 members on its Facebook site.

  • They planned a public defiance of the law at the train station in Mohammedia near Casablanca last Sunday but were dispersed by the police.

  • The protesters were prevented from eating and so should not have been detained, Mr Omar said, adding that they have not been charged.

  • Under Moroccan law, eating in public during the hours of daylight, when Muslims are supposed to observe a fast, can lead to a fine and up to six months in prison.

It is an absurd law. Is it religious qua religious..I don't know.
This is what happens when you try to force people to toe the line.
if one is travelling or sick etc, s/he does not have to fast. It might seem ethical to NOT eat in public to "tease" those fasting. This however makes the fasting person seem weak, and takes supposed ethics to the point of law...an asinine concept.
In Saudi arabia, it is worse. At prayer time in Riyadh, you cannot walk in streets except to go to the mosque once the prayer call is sounded.
Some jackasses round you up..with violence if necessary. Thankfully, this is peculiar to Saudi Arabia.
In Jewish law: I went to one house for Sabbath dinner. The oven bell rang. Lady would not turn off the thing. I had to play "shabbos goy" and turn it off!!!!
And thus manifests the idiocy of legalism...

Not any more When I first went to Saudi in the 80's the police used to chase every male to the masjid now they don't even at prayer times people would stansd around chatting. The shops do close up at prayer time.

Maybe they are trying to avoid the liquor. I have been to games here where the liquor seem more important than the game.

Are you saying it is ok for the cricketers to play under the influence?
Religion or no religion alcohol dulls your senses, why do you think it's against the law to have more than 2 drinks if you are are driving.

chief, i did not realise that y'all have professional cricket playing in NY...u see in scarborough, the cricket was all about fun and family until a few yrs ago...the fun is gone.
i rarely go to the ground anymore. it seems like women are no longer welcome. cricket used to be a picnic every wknd...the women were the scorers and food suppliers/ diff teams used to host...not anymore. whenever i go, i am glared or leered at.

not sure who drinks and plays (except for my man who does it way better and has more fun when he had a beer or two..he has made some records and i have the trophies to prove it...also 3 kids..LOL)

In SD, its league cricket and no drinking is officially permitted. A lot of the players are pakistani and hindu..so the food is almost always veggie. Good too.
