My dear Brothers & Sisters
Assalam-O-Alaikum First, lets give thanks to Almighty Allah for causing us to witness another blessed day of Jummah. I hope all of you had an enjoyable 4th of July weekend and Canada day for those of you who are living further North. I attended the Islamic Circle of North America's (I.C.N.A.) Annual Convention at the Hartford Convention Center and it came off with a bang as usual. Attendance was over 10,000 people and the breakout educational sessions were very informative. The sisters and the youths’ workshops were filled to capacity. The midnight entertainment was great with a Muslim comedian and of course the young Muslims with their singing. All in all it was worth while, for it was a family affair and I was very happy to see so many young people who outnumbered the adults. For those of you who missed it this time, you can always attend next year’s convention, insha Allah. I know many of us have our summer vacations planned but let's not forget that we are now in the month of Rajab, with less than fifty (50) days for the blessed month of Ramadan. Please, let's start our preparations from now. Let’s start by praying our daily namaaz regularly, for namaaz is the key to success and it keeps us away from shameful acts. Also, our noble and holy Prophet performed more Nafil Roja in the two preceding months of Ramadan than the rest of the year. So let's start keeping some Nafil Roja in the coming days, which will enable us to be ready for the full thirty (30) days of Ramadan which will be in the summer of this year. Therefore, let’s start our countdown to Ramadan from today. As my good friend Imaam Zameer Sattaur said in one of his sermons and I quote "when you expect guests to your home, you start preparations many days ahead, so similarly let's make preparations for Ramadan, the month of blessings and mercy, and like a guest, it will come visit and leave us so fast". May all of you have a wonderful week ahead and at the same time enjoy the rest of the summer with your families. |

Ramadan is Approaching
The Month of Ramadan is upon us. During this special time, we should all reflect on the many blessings God has bestowed upon us. Those of us who live here in the West have been blessed with many material bounties that are unimaginable to many of our co-religionists in the East. The amount of food we enjoy and unfortunately the amount that many of us waste, the expansiveness of most of our homes, our ready ability to own cars, trucks, and vans, our easy access to higher education, our ability to marry at a young age, all of these blessings and many others are incomprehensible to many Muslims in faraway lands struggling to live from day to day. Perhaps the greatest blessing we enjoy is the blessing of security. This is a great blessing that many people take for granted. The ability to be safe in ones home,… Read full article |

Ayah of the week:
"He created the heavens without any pillars that ye can see; He set on the earth mountains standing firm, lest it should shake with you; and He scattered through it beasts of all kinds. We send down rain from the sky, and produce on the earth every kind of noble creature, in pairs." Surah Luqmân (31) verse 10: Ahadith of the week: A man came to Allah's Apostle and said, "O Allah's Apostle! Who is more entitled to be treated with the best companionship by me?" The Prophet said, "Your mother." The man said. "Who is next?" The Prophet said, "Your mother." The man further said, "Who is next?" The Prophet said, "Your mother." The man asked for the fourth time, "Who is next?" The Prophet said, "Your father. " Volume 8, Book 73, Number 2: Narrated Abu Huraira: Dua of the week: And remember Abraham said: "My Lord, make this a City of Peace, and feed its people with fruits,-such of them as believe in Allah and the Last Day." He said: "(Yea), and such as reject Faith,-for a while will I grant them their pleasure, but will soon drive them to the torment of Fire,- an evil destination (indeed)!" [2:126] |

Presidential Message, Ramadan 2008
I send greetings to Muslims observing Ramadan in America and around the globe. The holy month of Ramadan is a special time of prayer, fasting, and service. For Muslims, these days commemorate the revelation of God's word to the prophet Muhammad in the form of the Qur'an. I thank the men and women of the Muslim community for their contributions to America. Your love of family, and gratitude to God have strengthened the moral fabric of our country. Our Nation is stronger and more hopeful because of the generosity, talents, and compassion of our Muslim citizens. Laura and I send our best wishes. Ramadan Mubarak. GEORGE W. Imala: there is a sufi story. It says that one time the devil came to jesus and said to him, God is one so proclaim the oneness of god. Whereupon Jesus responded: YOu are the embodiment of evil and duplicity...you twist words...so no, I will not repeat what you ask for who knows what your intentions are?"
And so it is, when we hear greetings from those who seek to annihilate us, we smile and we say, like Yusuf "hasbi allah wa naym'al wakil". |

My dear Brothers & Sisters
Assalam O Alaikum Let me take this opportunity to wish all of you a wonderful month of fasting. This is the month for us to go that extra mile to ensure that we receive the maximum blessings that comes with Ramadan. Briefly I will like to recommend a few things that we can do this Ramadan. Many non muslims here in North America are saying that they still do not know Muslims that well , so,let us use the opportunity of Iftar to invite our neighbors and friends to break bread and at the same time we can educate them about Ramadan and fasting . Let's not forget the poor and needy, the sick and the old amongst us, please find time to visit and spend time with them. Volunteer to take some of our seniors and sick to the Masjids because some of them are longing to be in the company with their Jamaat members. I know many of us will fast however please don't forget that if you cannot fast because of health reasons it is recommended that you feed a needy person for the entire month. Many of our families and friends are no longer with us this Ramadan let us remember them in our duas as well. Finally let's make good use of the Holy Quran by reading it, for this is the month in which the Holy Quran was revealed to our noble and Holy Prophet Muhamad(uwbp), and also let's search for the nite of Lilatul Quadar, the nite of power. All in all from the bottom of my heart I pray that all of you do have a rewarding Ramadan 1429, may Allah bless you and your loved ones and may Almigthy Allah make it easy for all of us and accept our fasting and other good deeds. Great advise Chief.
Let us also remember our brothers who are suffering around the world and also those who have little or nothing to eat in our Dua. And take examples from them and not to WASTEin this month as we Muslims tend to overdo it in Ramadan. Ramadan is to make us better as Muslims and as Human beings And Allah Subhanahu Watala has given us lots of opportunities in this month to do so. He increased the Sawab for every Good deed, Fasting helps us understand the plight of those who have little or nothing to eat. He has taken shaitan away from us so that shaitan cannot temp us so we have NO EXCUSES not to do good. I pray that Allah Accept ALL of our Dua, Sallah and our Good deeds. That he keep us on the staight path and away from falsehood and inovations. May we all have a rewarding Ramadan Ameen |

ah doan get sumting...here is how it goes. we calculate the fajr, dhuhr etc based on what? well it cyan't be actual seeing the sun's position because them bwoys got times like 5.18 and so on. So why then,is the obsession with SEEING the moon? is mathematics something that is optional? If so, why not for the daily prayers and let us have a daily sun sighting contest. Is too difficult? duh.
