I heard the Prophet narrate the story of another Prophet [Jesus] before him, whose people beat him and caused him to bleed. Even as he wiped the blood off his face he said, "Lord, forgive them for they know not what they do!"

This in in the gospel as to what Jesus said when he was on the cross.

The Gospel states that Jesus uttered these words when he was on the cross. That is what I was focussing on.

The key here is about forgiving. Also a classic example of how texts get mis quoted as in wipe his face.
