Questions: It is my understanding that a muslim man can have 7 wives ..once they are treated equally and can be care for by this man both financially and emotionally...can a woman have more than one husband, if she can do the same if she had the means to do so ? I am doing a paper, so thanks for participating in advance...

I’m sure you can get more knowledgeable responses from the Muslims here but from the little I know the limit is 4 wives and yes they must all be treated equally.

In answer to the question about the woman, no she can’t have four husbands because the woman can get pregnant and the father of the child may be questionable (well perhaps not with the existence of DNA testing nowadays)

A muslim man can have no more than four wives at a time.

A Muslim woman can only have one husband at a time.

Abu.. in light of the old days and even the present times, I understand that it is unacceptable for a woman to have more than one husband (that don't keep some of us back).. but why the double standard...I believe if a man and woman exchange vows in front of God and Fire then they should only have each other...what or who made the ruling of a muslim man can have okay 4 wives right?

Devdas... for me may it be of any religion...the respect of man /woman taking a spouse should be treated as as one man/woman thing..

I apologize for misleading you…I should’ve been more clear

Well I suppose it all depends on the circumstances, culture at the time etc. It would take a very strong, extremely secure woman to accept that her husband has chosen to take a second wife unless it was societal norm…the Mormons actually practice this…

You can also look at it this way…sometimes when you want “alone-time” you have a wife to share the responsibility of entertaining your husband: lol:

Hi, Amber
Islam does not impose polygamy as a universal practice. One should therefore regard monogamy as the norm and polygamy as the exception. Polygamy in Islam has been abused in some cases and places but in many situations it is also beneficial. The most obvious example is in war, when many women are left as widows and children are fatherless.

A muslim man cannot pick another man's wife for the night. The chief is not a practising Muslim if he does that.

I am learning daily that we in Guyana understood Islam much better than what is demonstrated by Middle Eastern/Arab Muslims.

In most religions, it's a sin to have one more than one husband simultaneously or to cheat. In olden times, female adulterers in most religions were stoned to death. Muslim women are still murdered for committing adultery or bringing shame to their family.

My dear Amber, it's still a male-dominated world. A muslim man can have 7 wives, but a woman is only allowed 1 husband. Cheers.

There you go applying double standards...

Is funny that my x used to try for me to agree to her having another man as well. I am not happy sharing...
