Does anyone if schools in Islamic republics...Saudis, Iran etc teach evolution or creationism?
Some Christians,Muslims and Hindues are banding together in the UK, calling for creationism to be taught in schools. |

Thats a tricky question, since Evolution is part of Creationism as per Quran.

Sunil: the idea of "evolution" in western secular terms is not generally taught at state schools in Saudi. But a smart teacher can do as Abu Says....the Qur'anic presentation is very clear that "days" are not 24 hour periods. IN places like Egypt, the idea of symbolism is used by individuals..that Adam was just a synonym for earth creature etc. IN turkey etc, there is secular education. It is a wide vista....

That's interesting, have to read up more on that. Some Western philosphers did accept the concept of God as the "prime mover" instead of order out of random chaos that is being taught now. |

SInce Islamic philosophy is based a lot on greek structure, the prime mover concept is very much part of the idea.

Sunil: while ghazali is the more famous, try reading ibn rushd..his books are masterpieces of logic and philosophy. He was a jurist, and opposed Ghazali on several issues.

Read ghazali's first, because ibn rushd's book is an answer to that.

i got my biases..i consider myself, while admiring SOME of ghazali's stuff, a sort of disciple of ibn rushd. Thomas Aquinas stuff was mostly in response to rushd.
