The Saudis have declared eid to be tomorrow(friday). Those that follow the Saudi declaration, will celebrate tomorrow, those that follow the Fiqh council will celebrate on Saturday and those that follow actual moonsighting will celebrate when the moon is sighted -:)

Insha Allah, everyone will have a wonderful Eid.

Based on Abu's post: if it does matter to anyone: i felt that given the astron. cal, the month should have begun a day earlier than the Fiqh council said. But if you are observant, you can't fool around here...if you started a day later, per the fiqh committee here, then it behooves you to follow their declaration..because they started a day late. I think. Abu do you know if the saudis started earlier?

As far as I know, everyone started on Thursday. I think the Fiqh council modified their end date to coincide with the moonset in Makkah, hence their decision to move eid from Friday to Saturday. In return the Sauids jumped the gun and declare eid on Friday instead of Saturday.

I have to wait on my Masjid to decide based on actual sighting in North America with the naked eye.

Lets enjoy the diversity.

Here is the fiqh council post:

The astronomical New Moon is on Thursday, October 11, 2007, at 5:00 Universal Time (8:00 am Makkah time). Sunset at Makkah on October 11 is 6:00 pm local time, while moonset at Makkah is at 5:59 pm local time (1 minute before sunset). This does not meet the new criteria adopted by FCNA and ECFR. On Friday, October 12, 2007, sunset at Makkah is 5:59 pm local time, while moonset is at 6:32 pm local time. Therefore, first day of Shawwal, i.e., Eid ul-Fitr is Saturday, October 13, insha'Allah.

COMMUNITY UPDATE - OCT 11, 2007

EID Al Fitr Saturday Oct 13, InshaAllah ... The Fiqh Council of North America & the Islamic Shura Council of Southern California stand firm on the decision that the day of Eidul Fitr 1428 is Saturday, October 13, 2007. Our decision is not based on any country’s announcement. It is based on the scientific fact that there is no possibility of sighting Hilal on Thursday, October 11, 2007, neither in North America nor in the Middle East. Astronomically the moon disc has 0% illumination. On Friday, October 12, 2007 will be the 30th of Ramadan and also astronomically it is possible to sight the crescent after sunset in North America in the Southern Belt region (Arizona, Texas and Southern California).

Eid ul Fitr 2007; and there is more confusion again as some communities will be celebrating Eid on Friday October 12; whils't others on Sat Oct 13/07.

The masjid that I will be attending will likely celebrate Eid Tomorrow Friday Oct 12/07, but this is not final, as after a later conference, they will give the final word.

Eid Greetings to all my Brothers/Sisters.

Did Allah give incorrect instructions on when He wants Eid to be celebrated? How come y'all can never agree on one date? Eid Mubarak to all whenever you decide to celebrate.

New York's Empire State Building will be lit up in green this week to honor the Muslim holiday Eid-al-Fitr.

This is the first time the building will be illuminated for the festival. Eid-al-Fitr marks the end of Ramadan and is expected to be observed on Saturday, October 13, 2007 in North America.

The building will turn green on Friday evening and will stay green until Sunday.

Building officials say the green lighting will become an annual event, following the tradition of colored lights at the tower to mark the Christian holiday of Christmas, the Jewish celebration of Hannukah and other events.

The 443-meter-tall (1,454-feet-tall) Empire State Building was built in the early 1930s. The custom of lighting the Building was first started in 1976, when red, white and blue lights were used to mark the American Bicentennial.

The instructions are clear. The moon is seen on different days in different places. It's OK to celebrate on different days if one chooses to go with local sighting.

Salaam and EID MUBARAD!!!! to all my Brothers and Sisters in Islam!!!

We just got home from Eid Prayers!!

Yes, our Jamah decided on today as Eid, and the Eid Salah was wonderful. I prayed next to my daughter, sister, close friends and strangers alike!!...hugged and kissed dozens of sisters...on a beautiful sunny day!!

We then went over to a friend's house and had a GY/Trini Eid breakfast!!...plenty sirnee, and sawaine!!

Tomorrow we go to Toronto to visit hubby's family and then back to Hamilton to spend the rest of the evening with my family!!

I wish all of you who are celebrating, on whichever day, a Blessed Eid with your Families and Friends!!.

Let us not focus too much on which is the right day or not (InshaAllah we will get a concencus one of these years;)...which was the main focus of our Khutba...UNITY!!..in the family, in the Jamah and in the world!!)....but on the true meaning of the month just completed and the celebration of this very spcial day.

Peace to all!!

Hope everyone had a wonderful eid. It took only two days for me to gain back 10 of the 7 pounds that I lost during Ramadhaan. :))
