TI: there are a lot of Nation of Islam eateries there to the best of my knowledge. SM and LImer: after 9/11, a lot of people of conscience starting reexamining Islam and finding out why it gets such a bad rap. And the exact opposite of what the phobes want is occuring: people are realising the the basic principles of the religion are beautiful, and that there is a lot of politics etc and unfinished business...the in the Middle and Far East/ SE Asia, a war of culture and evangelism is still going on... and they are converting. For the oppressed, the post 9/11 phobia might be seen as being healed by "asaa an takrahoo shay'an wa huwa khayr lakum"...perhaps you hate something and it is better for you. Now at the university here there are so many conversions. The sad part is that many activists try to put their ideology into these sincere new Muslims. Only yesterday I passed the MSA desk at San Diego U and wanted to cuss them out when I saw a real hateful activist Jew hater sitting at the desk. |

No Abu..he did not give dawah. He is known on campus as a hater...and as a matter of fact, his literature that he had on the desk was nothing to do with dawa. For me, action to 'amr bi'l ma'ruf" is dawa. But I get the point....for good dawa, the students at vanderbilt and Wayne state are the best...no hate, no politics...and they are resepected by all. if you got gyal pickness, ASMA GUL has some books out. U might not agree with all her logic...but she is not a bad role model for an american muslim. |

Two things. This guy looks caucasian but speaks with an arab/asian accent. Indoctrinated? Maybe. Secondly, beating your wife the way he explains is more of a mockery. We had a teacher at Rama Krishna School name Balwant Singh who resented lashing students. So he would make them stretch out their hands and then he would pretend to lash them but he never touched them. The result. Student knows that they will not get lashed by him and they usually laugh at or speak of his actions. What kind of authority are we hoping to establish here? Zilch. Also, more men are proned to be wild oats than women are. Where is the punishment for them. Allah loves the women so much more to give them an out so that they don't end up in hell fire like the guy tried to explain while he could care less about the men not getting any remrdial chances here to prevent them from going to the hell fire? It is nothing more than a male chuvanistic thing to show who is boss. But I am sure that smart women aren't going to buy it. So where is he awesome? |

Allah said beat them. End of story. It is not a command so not doing it is not a sin. I said that I will never hit my wife. Nothing she does will ever justify me raising my hands on her. Same for my two kids. End of story. Allah knows what we don't know so He knows the conditions which supports His teachings. Those conditions don't exist anymore. End of story. So all these fools trying to explain something should just say that today's conditions do not support that action. Instead, they go around making fools of themselves like the guy you just posted. Paraphrasing him, "the beating should be so gentle that it shouldn't even leave an impression" Giving someone a firm handshake leaves an impression. Hugging someone lovingly leaves an impression. My problem is that we are not truthful with ourselves or others. And we give the silliest explanations for things.

There is an article on Islamicity right now about respecting the Christians' Christmas. Go read it and see how confused we are. If we want to exclusiveness, we should stop the nonsense about how we are inclusive. OR ADMIT THAT WE ARE EXCLUSIVE AND LET THE CHIPS FALL WHERE THEY MAY. WE CAN'T HAVE IT BOTH WAYS.
