Good article coco!
Since the men each have 5 wives, then when 1000 men attend the mosque, 5,000 women will have to attend too. Therefore it seems to me that the women section should be bigger than the men section. A big problem which many Muslims try to ignore is that many Muslims have less regard for women and their issues than for men. They prefer them in the kitchen instead of the mosque. |

In attempting to address this issue we must ask ourselves two questions
1 What did Allah (SWT) addressed this in the Quran. 2.What the Prophet (pbuh) did |

It is not compulsory for women to attend Jummah. Furthermore it is reported in a Hadith that it is preferred for women to pray in their innermost chambers. Now, as to the women who want to come and pray the Jummah , proper space should be allotted. However please bear in mind that at most of the masjids on Jummah day there are not enough space even for the men(whom Jummah is compulsory on) for many men do end up praying either in the courtyard, or, as in the case in Manhantan, on the streets. |

Women need to come out and listen to the kutbah.
Some of the older women still have superstitious beliefs since they have not been privy to lectures and kutbahs in the masjids. Actually, come to think of it, many men sleep during the kutbah, and don't hear it either :-)) |

Bannas, I side with the brudda who gave the khutba. The so called hadith about women in their private chambers is problematic in that the Q seems to indicate that it was normal for women to participate. Also when God orders Mary to prostrate with "those who prostrate"..inasmuch as this is in a different time and clime, the idea is that the WOMAN is being told to participate in a communal worship...and that has not been removed by any Divine mandate... |

A bindi is that decorative "dot" some women wear in the middle of the forehead. It's what most of us call a "tikka". |
