I don't think that the saudis actually look for the moon. I know what you are speaking about Abu.On that day we might be told to go and follow the Saudis and go to them for our rewards. |

WE are coming from two different perspectives. What we know is this: that the day could have occured on certain times, one at the earliest. What SOME people do is try to figure out how it is possible for the two to coincide..that a sighting and calc can coincide. The problem is that since they are not meteorologists...neither am i--they only give ONE side of the story--to suit their polemic.
There is NOTHING that says that there must be a conjunction. But getting back to the case of the beduin....we are calculating..sorry..the MOON SIGHTHING POSSE..are calculating as if they are experts in geography of the desert etc and know the light refractions, shadows that could influence the visibility of space objects. They are not. And given the choice between following scholars from Saudi Arabia/egypt/libya..all schooled in Qur'an...and USUL AL FIQH...as opposed to following some primarily south east indian trained people..I will opt for the former. The criterion in the qur'an lies on KNOWLEDGE, or PRESUMED knowledge. In that case, the saudis and their posse win. Is it poss. they are lying? Sure. But the rule is al asl fi'l insan al adaalat""the basic rule in humans is probity...we have to PROVE them wrong, not suspect them. |

why you keep pissin in the wind. if you claim to see the moon before its birth, then you wrong. End of story. That is scientific fact. I repeat, nobody in Saudi saw the new moon on Sunday. THAT IS FACT. |

MY bukta wet like rass heah. Now my point is that if the moon according to astronomical calculations could have been born, then I will go with the Saudi statement..since as I noted they probably lie to justify their following the calculation....if on the other hand, they claim to have sighted the moon BEFORE even its calculated crescent...and if that is what Abu means... that is another matter and they need to be publicly censured.
I don't give a dman to begin with since as I noted, I follow the calculations...and i pointed out yesterday, the calculations are often provided for us by those who have a vested interest in pushing for sighting according to THEIR criteria...forgetting the conditions over there in the desert. |

There is one moon..and in the same manner that ALL countries calculate Jan 1 at the same time, so it ought to be. This is not a matter of sA claiming the right..although for obvious reasons in the hajj they have that right. For CENTURIES, ulema have been arguing for CALCULATIONS....but the traditionalists don't get it.
Every nation celebrates Christmas on one of two days..that are KNOWN. So too it can be for Islam. The Jews also followed a lunar calender but they went entirely solar for observation purposes. we can do the dualism..but sighting is NOT a requisite. Again the Qur'an talks about moon..not about sighting. If we say that in the prophet's day that was the only way, agreed, then we have to see that in the qu'ran the word that ALL translate now as 'atom" was not even discovered then. So too, when we come abreast of new scientific findings, we use it. |

U guys just vouchsafed D2's statement about organized religion a few weeks ago. Added to which we have too many "scholars" without scholarly foundation.

Heard we are having Eid on Wednesday. All I need to know the time so that I can turn up an hour late which will get me there just after they all finish patting themselves on their backs and just before the Eid prayer/khutbah.

That's okay Mike. If the glove don't fit, you must acquit.
I repeat my claim though..I never met a scholar of Islamic studies or other who defeated me in an issue related to Islam. |
