I hereby apologize to professor Khaleel for stating that he is/was a convict. It was never my intention to say or insinuate that he was a convict. I am sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused you.

The reason for talking about your brother was to come out in further discussions and it was never my intention to do any character assassination. If members of this board think that my posting was deliberate then you should have faith in the supreme being and let him deal with me accordingly.

If legal proceedings is the only recourse then, then let it take its course. I ask others to refrain from any name callings at this time.

I think that that is sufficient - and would ask the professor to accept same. It takes a big man to admit his error. Please disregard my draft statement of claim on the adda thread :)

abu,
i am so glad that u have shown ur good faith and apologized to DR> Mohammed. In this type of forums there will be plenty room for disagreement. we will disagrree on religion. politics, philosophy etc. In that disagreement, we must never let our anger go beyond The individual poster. Our families must always remain sacred on this board. I disagree with the Doctor on political and philosophical issues. An objective person would realize that Professor is funny, he is lighthearted and a well meaning guy. I havent seen him tell anyone what to believe in but he sticks to his points citing sources. Maybe his intellect is beyond a board like this. I love to ramble and say things tongue in cheek. From afar(i dont know doc) he seems to be fairminded, toleraant of all people and seems to be an allround good guy. Abu as both of us who came through teacher annie kinderegarten class, Let the love for all canecuttas(smile) be it hindi , christian or moslem hold hands and stand united. after all there is only 500,000 of us canecuttas. look how me pulling fuh shiv and sarwan rite now. I have a great respect that u have come out and admit wrong abu.

I truly hope Dr Mohammed will come on and accept.

may peace rain down on all our brothers and sisters. who ever your god is, hindu, muslim, christian, lets not divide ourselves.

Should the good doctor apologize to Abu for calling him a Jihadist? After all, this is also in religious context...

Yuh drinking again Krish. Jihadist is not an endearing term. The Qur'an gave high status to the mujahids. Jihadists are people bent on destroying themselves and others.

ON the one hand, Abu's statement is fair and I can't argue with it. So I accept that. I note that another (not Abu) chose to remain quiet on the larger issue and talk about Jihadist. From a legal and academic viewpoint: I defined that yesterday. End of story. To those of you who offered me good advice, I thank you. As Krishna and Villo are aware, there are several who would benefit from the negativity of litigation. In all honesty, some outsiders were all agog about this. But who would have suffered? Innocents on this site that was set up by a bunch of good people.
RE Krishna's posting about intellect: I somewhat disagree. REligion happens to be my field....and my academic approach therefore might force me to go against that which is cherished by some. In each of our fields, I guess we use terms and see things that those outside may not perceive. At least this entire unsavory episode forces ME also to stay away from personal insults. To avoid things degenerating into such, I will sometimes simply ignore some questions from some. To those who were so sweet to send PM's: thanks. IT makes me feel good to be a Guyanese.

Jihadist in political terminology refers to someone who has a triumphalist view of islam that is not compatible with the religion itself. To those from the school of Ikhwan and Maududi, it is like the c word in positive context. TO academics and faith based scholars alike, it is negative. IN normative islam, the term mujahid, or mujtahid is good; jihadi (jihadist) is bad.

Now back to my original postings. What I wanted to point out was the fact that this man continuously coins the word Jihadist to refer to Muslims such as myself and others who hold to a more conservative view of Islam. I personally don’t consider myself conservative but we can deal with that at a later stage. While he takes offence for me categorizing him together with his brothers as convicts, he finds it acceptable to categorize myself and others as Jihadist.

In my rush to push through my argument, I inadvertently labeled him along with his brothers as convicts. My intention was to categorize him based on association similar to his affinity of Muslims to Jihadist but it didn’t turn out that way, I actually called him a convict (this was wrong). I have no worry whatsoever apologizing for my actions, and I did, since it was not my original intention. However, I think Jihadist is much more of a libel claim than convict, since the latter gets a much lighter sentence than Jihadists. The last time I checked, Jihadsist spend indefinite amount of time being incarcerated which the average convict gets to wear ankle jewelry and walk free in society.

My original intention was to eventually ask the following questions to Mr. Khaleel based on this real life example:

Why would you label me and others who oppose your views as Jihadists?

Do you have any such proof based on any of our previous postings?

Is there any definition of the term Jihadist? I kind of know were you are coming from but not 100 percent sure what you meant.

When I tried to paint him in the same light as his brother he quick to point out some of my incorrect semantics without acknowledging any of his own biases and prejudices.

Like me, he should apologize for coining the term Jihadist to describe all devout and practicing Muslims. If he should decide that an apology is not forthcoming then I will let it slide unless our resident lawyer Villo is willing to provide his services for free to the Muslim community as he did for Mr. Khaleel but I don’t have the time for such endeavors.

In summary, I would like to say that guilt by association is not something that is acceptable in a modern civilized society.

LET US REFRAIN FROM SUCH CATEGORIZATIONS.

I find it paradoxical that you are calling for Khaleel to apologize for calling Abu JIHAD a jihadist!

But with that being said it is probably better to stop the labelling.
