Muslim Man Who Raped Muslim Woman as "Punishment" for Reading the Bible Sentenced to Five Years
Told Victim "Let Your Jesus Help You"

In Australia, a Muslim man who raped a Muslim woman as "punishment" for reading the Bible has been sentenced to five years. This sexual attack follows in the wake of others in Australia by mostly immigrant Islamic men against Western women for religious or ethnic reasons. With many cases or rape, particularly gang rape, in Australia, France, Sweden, and Norway, some cite this as a growing epedimic that the media has left for the most part unreported.
Abdul Reda Al-Shawany , age 52, raped the unidentified Muslim woman as "punishment" for her reading the Bible. The Campbelltown District Court in Sydney heard how Abdula Reda Al Shawany sexually assaulted the woman, who was a practicing Muslim herself, and then said to her, "Let your Jesus help you."

The AAP reports that as was sentenced, the Downing Centre District Court heard a harrowing statement from the victim, revealing that her shame and fear had been compounded by her cultural background. The woman, who cannot be named, arrived in Australia as a refugee from Iraq. But she said that even when she was jailed by dictator Saddam Hussein, she never feared for her life the way she did after the rape. "It is better if I'm dead," she told the court.

The Daily Telegraph reports that when the woman came to Australia from the Middle East she began listening to Christian teachers and reading the Bible. The woman - who wears the Muslim hijab - had received threats from members of her faith for reading the Bible but had not converted to Christianity. Al Shawany lured her to a Warwick Farm railway station in September 2002 after he told her he had some mail for her from overseas.

Per the AAP, the court was told that Al-Shawany' visited the woman, an acquaintance, at Sydney's Villawood Detention Centre with another man. The woman had been reading the Bible and Al-Shawany noted her contact with Christians. The men told her they were "infidel people" and if she went with them, her killing "would be halal" - meaning her killer would go to heaven.

The woman, who has since converted to Christianity, initially did not report the rape to the police because she "was ashamed". She said she was afraid she would be killed, either in retribution by Al-Shawany's family or in an "honour killing". But after some time, she turned over the clothing she'd worn the day of the rape, which she'd kept in a sealed plastic bag for three years. The DNA from the semen sample taken from the woman's clothing matched samples from Al-Shawany.

This is not the first case of Islamic men raping women for ethnic or religious reasons in Australia. Such cases are also reported in France, Norway, Sweden and other Western nations. What many of these cases have in common is that many of the perpetrators told law enforcement they were motivated by ethnic and religious reasons to commit their crimes.

FrontPage Magazine reports that when a number of teenage Australian girls were subjected to hours of sexual degradation during a spate of gang rapes in Sydney that occurred between 1998 and 2002, the perpetrators of these assaults framed their rationale in ethnic terms. The young victims were informed that they were "sluts" and "Aussie pigs" while they were being hunted down and abused. Time Magazine has reported on this problem in France in an article entitled Sisters in Hell. In 2006, the IRIS Blog covered what it called the Pan-European Arab Muslim Gang Rape Epidemic. The blogger Fjordman reported in 2005 on the Muslim Rape Epidemic in Sweden and Norway-Authorities Look the Other Way.

The AAP reports that Al-Shawany, a father of four, maintains his innocence.

Judge Knox found the offender believed the sexual assault was justified because the woman was considered an "infidel" for reading the Bible and associating with Christians.

"What he did was an attempt to enforce his religious or cultural views on his former countrywoman," Judge Knox said.

"Such behaviour is completely intolerable and totally unacceptable in this community."

He sentenced Al-Shawany to a maximum seven-and-a-half years in jail.

The 52-year-old must serve at least five years, making him eligible for parole in 2012.

No. What he did was violate another person's right to safety and security. 7 1/2 years is too linient. He should be put away for life after being castrated. There are so many nutcases running around loose.

Muslims read the Bible all the time. We study it for our interfaith and comparative religion activities. Too many people having no sound capacity to render judgement are taking the liberty in doing so and in so doing are hurt/harming others, and themselves.

Forget the motive. If they open our eyes to some of the misguided things that go on in our society, we may grow from them. Unfortunately, they are a lot of Muslims who take very incorrect views on Islamic teachings and end up hurting others.

Why should he not take a position as a decent human being? This act indicates the intollerance rife in muslim communities and the muted response from the rest of the community is what adds fire to the generalization. It will take other muslims to act against such intollerance if they ever want to be viewed in more favorable terms by others.

Re read my post a few times, thats not my point. we as muslims are being called left right and center to speak out against this and that; its like a witch hunt. Its not about this atrociious act. I do engage my Muslim community on these matters , and i need not elaborate. I dont feel i owe anyone an explanation. Kzaz..this is not the forum. There are many crusaders here.

Atrocious acts are committed by lunatics of all All Religions, e,g. Child Porn Ring Smashed .

Muslims do not have to explain or defend Islam everytime an atrocious act is done by a person with a Muslim sounding name.

I think you totally missed the point...you are becoming like Nuff...everyone has criminals among them. What made this different was the reasoning for the crime...that's what made it "religious". This was synonymous to a "hate crime".

O ye who believe! stand out firmly for justice, as witnesses to Allah, even as against yourselves, or your parents, or your kin, and whether it be (against) rich or poor: for Allah can best protect both. Follow not the lusts (of your hearts), lest ye swerve, and if ye distort (justice) or decline to do justice, verily Allah is well- acquainted with all that ye do. Qur'an 4:135

O ye who believe! stand out firmly for Allah, as witnesses to fair dealing, and let not the hatred of others to you make you swerve to wrong and depart from justice. Be just: that is next to piety: and fear Allah. for Allah is well-acquainted with all that ye do. Qur'an 5:8

Let us really take heed to the two passages above.

Many people commit injustices against others and some of them do claim religious reasons but Muslims are doing this more than others. And the real crime is that Islam does not justify their actions. If we don't speak out, then we will also be victims of those misguided Muslims. Like the Prophet said, "at least hate the evil act".

I see both sides here. WHen the Church people were sodomizing boys, we did not see people posting it here as an indictment of christianity...
That being said, any individual act of depravity committed in the name of religion must be deplored.
There are some posters who frequently write about religion, if notALL with detailed knowledge (by that I mean recognized credentials), at least with consistency. AMong these are myself, andre, kaz., jan, baseman, pj, chameli, joan, reds, abu, chief, fu real and others. Recently some new entries have come in and without knowledge, butwith malice, are seeking to get attention. While I don't wish to complain to amral, I do wish people would see the nefarious motives of these people..either they are purely evil or just seeking attention in whatever form. This should not be tolerated.
Andre: that has nothing to do with this thread..I see it as a good post..I am referring to other threads or input...and I mention it here so that the "regulars" will notice it.

big difference that you deep thinkers couldn't ascertain.

When a Priest molests a boy, he is not doing it in support of his religion, in promotion of his religion or in accordance of his religion.

Now in this article that Andre post, we see these Muslim men, raping these women, because these women were in the initial stages of apostasizing from the faith. "They read Bibles". Therefore in an effort to bring correction and to keep them observant Muslims, these men decided that rape was the way to go. Because of this, the rape was used as a tool to support and promote the religion of these men.

Here is the clue to understanding the passage. I hope you great, deep, and moral thinking Muslims can actually get it. I abjure you, if Andre and I can get it, you too can get it, or you are grossly stupid, since Andre and I are not geniuses, we only like to think of ourselves as such.

quote:
The Daily Telegraph reports that when the woman came to Australia from the Middle East she began listening to Christian teachers and reading the Bible. Al Shawany lured her to a Warwick Farm railway station in September 2002 after he told her he had some mail for her from overseas.

The rape was a direct response borne out of the rapist religion in retaliation to being offended religiously by the woman engaging in intercourse with another religion.

I guess being rape will fully convert this woman to Christianity, and it will be better for her, for she has seen the light of what Islam is. "Psychological, mental and physical manipulation". If this is what they did to this poor woman in a western country, can you imagine what they would have done to her in the Middle East. This woman would have been dead.

Then you morons would have come and say that her death is an anomaly, knowing fully well that your religion prescribes harsh penalties for anyone who leaves the faith.

you guys are all frauds.

Bonus, the rapist should be dealt with by the full force of the law. All muslims should not be judged because of one pervert's actions. A few zealots cannot tarnish the whole muslim population.

Y'all people could create mountains out of a molehill. Ksazma responded to the act and the penalty in a purely humanitarian way. He/she didn't drag religion up and down his/her response. So what's the fuss about? Ksazma shouldn't have taken umbrage with this despicable act? He/she shouldn't have responded like a decent human being? Why not?

These men decided. That is their decision. Not Islam. The Qur'an does not tell anyone to rape someone because they are leaving or have left Islam. The Qur'an clearly stated that there is no compulsion in religion. No other religious book has any clearer statement.

It is true that those priests don't invoke religion and it is also true that the majority of Christians always condemn it. That is what I am invoking from my Muslim brothers and sisters. A clear and irrovacable condemnation of this act. For two reasons. First it is absolutely wrong and secondly, it is against Islam.
