Not sure if it was zaki el badawi, but he ruled that given the post 9/11 events and behavior, and since a Muslim does not look for trouble, and the reason behind the khimar was to AVOID trouble, then in the west, it is now to be avoided.

Kaz: don't get me wrong. I wish I had walked with them too. But I view it as thankless on my part to deny the favor that God has given me...allowing me to read and still get benefit....as some say, we have the POTENTIAL to attain a lot since we believe WITHOUT having to be coerced, without seeing the Prophet...I wish too I were with Joshua, and Jesus..laa nufarriqu bayna ahadin min hum....In divine mercy, God has given us a lighter duty...and for that I am truly thankful.
WHen I read the Qur'an, I see a prophet who was human and wonderful..when I read the hadith, I see a man being made into that which he did not want...someone who foretells the future etc...when in the Q he is made to say, I do not know what will happen to me and to you....in the hadith he becomes "insan kamil"..in the Qur'an..he is simply a 'bashar"...

I don't get you wrong at all. This is also my position. Why do you think that all the bashers use the ahadiths to put down our prophet and Islam? The Qur'an says; "It is by the mercy of His Lord that He has made him (Muhammad) gentle and had he been harsh or hard hearted, people would have dispersed from him."

I don't see the khimar as mandatory.

Kaz, there may be many here who view you as a source of knowledge - this is so whether you admit it/like it or whether or not it should or should not be viewed as such. Stating your opinion on such important issues in such a nonchalant manner is sure to influence the viewpoint and ultimately the decision of some, whether consciously or unconsciously. Are you willing to fetch this burden?

In that case, I better shut up. Thanks Limerbhai.
