RE Krishna's posting about intellect: I somewhat disagree. REligion happens to be my field....and my academic approach therefore might force me to go against that which is cherished by some. In each of our fields, I guess we use terms and see things that those outside may not perceive. I still continue to avoid responses to certain posters: but there is a difference btween conservatism and non-conservatism. WHen verses are misued...yes again, I point out the issue of translation and knowledge of meaning--to advocate meanings that are nonsensical or triumphalist, then I will refer to such interpretations in the appropriate manner.

Jihad i read years ago means to fight against evil temptations, to perfect oneself.

If we talking about Indian abuses in Kashmir or the occupation of Iraq/Palestine we are all called Jihadists or terrorits. Even travelling here in the Middle East some have accused me of getting arab/terror money to fund my overseas travels.

Many times threats of reporting me to Homeland Security were made and i get grilled at most airports, and , i had many strange things happened, which i will not indluge to discuss here

maybe i have not read all the post or follow the discussion well but his definition of jihadist= someone who wants to take over the world and impose islam by violence; and there are some on gni who are national treats.
