a few points addressed to my fellow muslims
Mentioned without rancor, for when all is said and done, you are my brothers and sisters. Although sometimes I need to kanks your collective head
1. the need to succumb to peer pressure in order to identity as 'moderate." We don't need to hasten to self righteous critique to seem human. For while the fanaticism is claimed against the Muslims, we know that actual fanaticism is shared. After all, we got the left behind series as best sellers.
2. This argument about what is "muslim" and "islam" is weak..all religions act, as I noted yesterday, on perception...and this perceiption is through the lenses of MEN. Many of them arseholes.
3. There is an arabic proverb: faqib al shay laa yu'ti..if you don't have it, you can't give it. Many of us involve ourselves in religion topics that we have no business talking about. The qur'an talks about "hatu burhanakum"..burhan is absolute proof. Often proof is derived thru detailed analysis. If you arent trained in it, you can't go it. Which is why there are ulema.
4. Still we cannot defend the undefendable. We need to know when something is a derived contruct of men, as opposed to a divine order. Like Hadith and Fiqh. If something is nonsense, we have to say so. If a verse of the Qur'an is out of sync with modernity, we have to say so. I pointed out the word "dharra" does not mean atom. Yet we now render it as such.
5. WE don't defend our religion by denigrating others. Our religion is not based on denigration of others for we accept the right of all..and this is not a construct of mine, but a scriptural imperative.
6. In future if you guys want to get Dara involved in religious discussion, send some food to my university that is really good and I will consider my options.
Shalom, salaam, namaste, sat sri akaal, cyer you rass and all the other warm greetings.
Now I got better things to do.
