Letter of Endorsement
Muslims' Letter of Endorsement

STATEMENT OF MUSLIM SUPPORT FOR PIPES APPOINTMENT TO USIP BOARD

The undersigned endorse President Bush's nomination of Daniel Pipes, to the board of the U.S. Institute of Peace.

We believe the nomination is a positive action, and urge Senate confirmation, because:

* Dr. Pipes has demonstrated wide expertise in the study of Islamic history and politics, working with original source materials in languages which he has mastered.
* The USIP board is an appropriate place for his sometimes controversial views to be examined and debated.
* Organizations identified with an Islamist perspective have expressed their opposition to his appointment, claiming to speak on behalf of all Muslims. We wish to make clear that they represent an extremist viewpoint that does not represent all or even a majority of American Muslims.

Whether one agrees or disagrees with Dr. Pipes, and some of us do strenuously disagree with aspects of his work, his views are part of the mainstream of debate on Middle East and Islamic issues, and they deserve to be heard in the USIP context.

Wonder who these 3 wannabees are? If I remember they are brothers and one a convict.

One convicted for kidnapping and fraud. He presently wears ankel jewelry.

Edit: take out the word convicts, since prof. corintini wants to take me to court now.

How does Daniel Pipes and peace go together. He is no different from the jihadists.

I endorsed Pipes for his stance against Jihadism. It does not mean I support him in everything he does...nor does he me. He has said so. But I would rather sit with him...for he makes no bones about his agenda. And he has a Harvard Ph.D in his field...perhaps he is not peaceful...but he defends his position with logic.

Reds: you seem to forget my analogy about the Pachyderm and the pissant. Hmmm.I wonder..just for the sake of family ties...I also have family that deal drugs, that beat up on their wives. But you see..they don't pretend to know islam. And further..since blood and kinship are the apparent criteria of assessment..I know a man whose uncle was the epitome of evil. In theory that blood runs in his veins. See Abu Jahl and Muhammad were related. Not likening myself to the prophet...althlugh he was JUST A MAN--but just seeking to apply the same yardstick. Jesus..respected by all..said that by their fruits ye shall know them. In the Bhagavad Gita, Krsna tells arjuna that each person has a sort of stamp upon himself..he cannot be but what he is. Some of us, according to that hindu logic, since we on GNI, of indo descent are all ancestrally tied to hindusim...must be pachyderms, and others pissants.Hark! the voice of conscience calls. I am breaking my oath to ignore...I have said too much.

That is my point. I don't have a problem with him speaking out about jihadists. I do so myself since I believe that they are the cause of a lot of grief that well meaning Muslims are having to deal with today. He makes many very destructive statements and like you said, he is not peaceful. So it just seem odd that he would be on a peace team. Of all the modern day people of recognition, Carter tops my list for people to be on any peace team. He would get more accomplished than Pipes would and if Bush had accepted Carter's offer to mediate a peaceful end to the Iraq situation back in 2002, we would not have this mess that we have right now over there. But Bush had to show that he has bigger nuts and it turned out that he only managed to prove that he has no nuts. Guess which side Pipes was on? Well you already know. :)

The divisions of mankind was clearly outlined in Sura Baqara among the three catagories of people.
The entire Quran is a commentary upon these groups, and how one becomes the other, and the enmity between them and the results of remaining partisans to one of them.
[1] Those who believe (whether righteous or sinner)
[2] Those who disbelieve (which includes the Jews and Christians)
[3] the hypocrites (who as the Quran delineates are outwardly obedient and more 'pious' than the believers, but whose one outstanding quality, is that they have taken the disbelievers as protecting friends over and against the believers!).

Now, where does our resident scholar fit?

look abu - this is far from what you should be doing - an apology by editing is no apology at all - i think you should apologize to the professor and khayum in a formal manner - while kadir may have had his problems (and if you know the man there are mitigating factors)and you may be right in your reporting - it is not necessary to do so on this forum

Doc...which one of us here have a perfect family...
2ndly who r we to judge???

Man sees the outward but God ( and only GOD) sees the heart!

As u quoted Jesus saying that we r judged by our fruits...
I believe there is another one that say 'tek de beam out uf yuh own eyes b4 yuh point out de SPECK in yuh broda's"
Do i hear an ameen!!!

As ADULTS, we r accountable for our own actions...we r not responible for each other's actions/behaviour..( ie as long as we r not conspirators or dont condone the 'crimes')

Finally we r all human beings ..we all make mistakes..and will always do since we r not GOD! ( only GOD doesnt make mistake)
but as long as we are aware of those mistakes , make restituion and make a conscious efffort not to repeat the same mistakes over and over...

Matthew 07:1-5

"1": Judge not, that ye be not judged.

"2": For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.

"3": And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?

"4": Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye?

"5": Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye.

Like many other Middle East scholars, Daniel Pipes sees a way to end the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. But unlike most of his peers, Pipes sees no room for negotiation, no hope for compromise and no use for diplomacy. "What war had achieved for Israel," Pipes explained at a recent Zionist conference in Washington DC, "diplomacy has undone."

His solution is simple: The Israeli military must force what Pipes describes as a "c
