one of the posters here had uploaded some great old videos to Stage, unfortunately Stage will close this Friday...by its owners Divx.

=======================

DivX has decided to close down its Stage6 video sharing website, citing escalating costs.
Despite attracting 17.4 million unique users each month, DivX claims that the site, which offered videos in the high quality DivX format simply became too expensive to run, highlighting the importance of advertising revenues.

"By no longer expending resources on Stage6, we sharpen our focus on creating a global standard for digital video while building a business that maximises shareholder value," says Kevin Hell, DivX chief executive.

As well as looking at ways of keeping the site running, DivX also tried and failed to find a buyer for the site.

"Ultimately neither of those two scenarios was possible, and we made the hard decision to turn the lights off and cease operation of the service," the company says.

Watchers have also suggested that the cost of policing the site could have contributed to its closure, as more and more copyrighted content began to appear.

Those videos were old, but the quality and sound were superb, better than Youtube.

Sad to see Stage 6 close.
