I must say, even though Bollywood does have its share of gossip and "guess who is sleeping with whom".. there is never any major scandal! (like when brad left for angelina J). i wonder why |

Hema shoots solo dance scene in Varanasi
By IANS Jun 18, 2007, 09:10 Mumbai, June 18: Actress Hema Malini is all set to perform a solo dance in a Hindi film after nearly 17 years. This will be for Pradeep Sarkar's upcoming movie, being shot in the Hindu holy city of Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh. Hema will perform a mujra in the yet untitled film and lip-sync a Thumri sung by director Vishal Bharadwaj's wife Rekha. "I love the song. And the dance will be Kathak based. That really makes me happy. The last time I performed a solo dance on screen was for Gulzar's 'Lekin'. That was another special appearance for the beautiful mujra 'Jhoote naina bole'. I really enjoyed that ... and I'm really enjoying this," Hema told us. She loves the dance in Sarkar's film because it has classical elements. "It's not often that one gets a chance to do something classical in our films these days. That's why I agreed to do it. They told me no on except me could perform the mujra. But I think Rekha would've been a better choice," she says. The veteran actress will be making a special appearance in the movie by Yashraj Films. "I did a special appearance for Yashraj Films' 'Veer-Zaara'. I've worked many times with them. When I was asked to do this film I did it without a second thought. "Though I've come to Varanasi many times for dance performances, the last time I was here for a film was Sohanlal Kanwar's 'Sanyasi' more than 30 years ago." Hema says dancing is the high point of her life. "When I perform the Krishna ballet I am at the crest of my happiness. Unfortunately now I have to divide my time among three disciplines - politics, acting and dancing. In fact I've never been busier in my life. I'm enjoying this phase in my life," says Hema. "My daughters are busy with their own thing. And I've the time to do what I want," she adds. Reference Source |

Television Double trouble Hema Malini does a Seeta Aur Geeta in Kamini Damini A battered saas running for cover? The viewer may snort in disbelief but this is the subject of Ravi Chopra's new TV venture. Kamini Damini on Mondays to Thursdays on Sahara One at 10 p.m. is a saas bahu saga with a twist. The victim is none other than Hema. Married to a rich industrialist, Hema aka Kamini's troubles begin when her daughter-in-law starts tormenting her. She turns to her twin Damini for help. The sisters exchange places and it's action time as the tables turn in the household. "The idea of doing a double role was very exciting," says Malini who played a similar double role in Seeta Aur Geeta in 1972 which in turn was a copy of the Dilip Kumar-starrer Ram Aur Shyam. At an age when many of her contemporaries have retired, life seems to be going at warp speed for the original prima donna of Hindi films. Besides becoming a Member of Parliament, Hema has done two hit cameos opposite Amitabh Bachchan in Baghbaan and Veer Zaara and is now all set to resurrect daughter Esha Deol's sinking career with a new film Babul Reference Source |

At last there is someone who is all mine and whom I don't have to share
For Hema Malini, her daughter Esha's birth was the most glorious event of her life. Despite the fact that it was most controversial issue for her husband's family because of the existence of his first wife Prakash and four grown-up children, the dream girl radiated pride and happiness. And nothing was going to deter her from being happy. "Everybody predicted that I was going to have a son," she had said. Deep down, she too hoped for a son. "So, I had bought everything for the child in blue and had even done up her nursery in shades of blue." But when she held her child in her arms the first time, nothing else mattered. According to the actress the birth of her daughter was the most beautiful experience in her life. There was too much tension at home about the time the baby was born. Because though she had completed nine months, there was no sign of pre-delivery pains! On the night of November 11, her husband Dharamendra had gone for a preview. Although she pestered him to take her with him, he refused, for he felt she was not in a condition to see a film. And as soon as he left, Hema had to be rushed to the hospital. Since she wasn't getting the pains the doctors had to induce labour. The one distinct memory during her most agonising pains was a shrill cry. The cry that brought with it, solace and made her a mother. "The first thing I noticed about her was her hair. Unlike me she wasn't bald. (They say I was a bald baby). I wouldn't exchange her for any son in this world." Esha according to the actress is a Sanskrit word, derived from the Upanishads. It means the divine beloved. "Her birth has made me realise how incomplete my existence was before her. There is a sense of belonging. At last there is someone who is all mine and whom I don't have to share..." Forked act
Friday, February 25, 2005 Hema Malini on her dream double role in TV?s Kamini-Damini. By Shaikh Ayaz Years ago, the charming Hema Malini sat beside her ailing screen husband Amitabh Bachchan in the film, Satte Pe Satta (1982). Two decades down the line, Hema recreates the scene. Although this time, it?s not funny, but an intense and serious one. And she isn?t a nurse here, but a housewife. And the man on the hospital bed is Maharabharat?s Karna, Pankaj Dheer, in a new avataar as Hema Malini aka Kamini?s husband. We are at B.R. Films? studio in Jogeshwari, Mumbai. Hema Malini, looking a good few decades younger than her current age, decides to await the shot being readied from the comforts of her make-up van. The crew is getting everything in place for the hospital scene. And we get the woman who does a Seeta Aur Geeta meets Baghban in Kamini-Damini on the small screen. The actress smiles at the comparison. ?It is like, both Seeta and Geeta have grown with age and are in the present age group of mother of three, what would be the story of their lives. Do not expect Damini to jump on top of ceiling fans like Geeta,? she warns. While we talk to her, we realise that white seems to be the colour of the day, as beside the entire hospital staff, even Hema is seen in a pristine-clean white sari. Cut to the shot. Hema Malini transforms herself into a caring wife, as she nurses husband Pankaj Dheer. ?It is an intense scene. Kamini?s husband is not well, and the police is here to interrogate him. They allege that he is involved in a criminal activity, but Kamini knows that he cannot do such a thing,? explains the actress. Director Ravi Chopra instructing the next scene, where Hema has to answer the police on behalf of Pankaj. The scene is okayed easily. The unit members take a breather. As always, Chopra is affable when approached. ?Kamini-Damini has been a difficult project for me, not only because I had the responsibility of extracting the best out of Hemaji, an accomplished artiste herself, but also because the entire cast is so talented that you have to literally give your best, no less would do,? says Chopra, admitting that he still gets nervous when calling the shots on Hema. Meanwhile, Kamini-Damini has been on air for quite some time. So how has the response to the serial been? ?Quite positive,? promptly replies Chopra. ?We are glad that people have loved Kamini-Damini. The show is set in a format where the characters are very strong. The audience response is an encouraging beginning for us.? Referenced Source |

The journey from Dream Girl to devotee BACK in the seventies she was the original Dream Girl who set hearts afire with her looks, her performances and her dances. A quarter of a century later, today, Hema Malini is out to wow viewers once again. But this time on television. In fact ever since she decided to act in serials there has been a veritable queue of producers trying to make her sign on the dotted line. But, she says, "I am not doing TV for a living. I want to concentrate on a few quality roles. One of my favourite roles is in Jai Mata Di. I am really blessed to have be doing it. It's not acting, it's bhakti." As if to prove how enamoured she is of the role, she recently gave a stunning dance performance on the banks of River Ganges at the Triveni Ghat at Rishikesh. The three-hour-long programme which had Hema dancing in various reincarnations of Goddess Durga regaled over 30,000 people who cheered her on heartily and she had to give encore after encore. "It's amazing how mom can still hold an audience breathless," was all that daughter Esha could utter in wide-eyed astonishment. Reference Source |

Hema Malini was the second South Indian actress after Vyjayantimala to be a major Hindi film star. At her peak she wielded such strong commercial clout that actors like Dev Anand and Rajesh Khanna had to turn to her to give them that much wanted hit. When Dev Anand's films in the 70s particularly those with Zeenat Aman crashed, Amir Garib (1974) with Hema Malini was a hit. When Rajesh Khanna's films started sinking, her Prem Nagar(1974) with him gave him a new lease of life albeit temporarily. Ironically her career almost ended before it began. Her first director Shridhar threw her out of a Tamil film he was directing in 1964, saying she had no star appeal! Hema resolved she would make it big where it mattered the most - Bollywood. She began her career opposite Raj Kapoor in Sapnon ka Saudagar (1968) where the posters splashed her picture with the catch phrase - 'Dreamgirl.' The film flopped but Hema survived. With Johnny Mera Naam (1970), Hema became a top star and with Seeta aur Geeta (1972) she was the top female star in Bollywood. A string of successful films particularly opposite Dharmendra (Raja Jani (1972), Jugnu (1973), Sholay (1975)) followed as Hema's stock only went higher and higher. Though Critics have dismissed her as a one-note actress, to be fair to her she did occasionally show that she could give a performance of some depth were she directed properly. As Raj Kumar's scheming mistress in Lal Pathar (1971) she not only made the audience empathize with her negative character but also stole a march over no less an actress than Rakhee! She dared to play a young widow in Andaaz (1971), a role turned down by most actresses. She tried to change her glamorous image by working with Gulzar and did some of her best and perhaps most introspective work in his films - Khushboo (1975), Kinara (1977) and Meera (1979). Both Jeetendra and Sanjeev Kumar proposed marriage to her but it was Dharmendra who wooed and won her. She flouted convention by becoming his second wife and having children by him but so strong was her morally upright image that she was able to go through the marriage without being slandered by press or public. By the early to mid 80s her reign was coming to an end. She concentrated on her dance performances and turned to playing strong characters with feminist undertones on both film and TV in fact giving a finely modulated performance in Rihaee (1988) as a woman who has an affair when her husband is away and has another man's child. She has dabbled in other channels of film production having produced Swami (1977), Sharara (1984), Aawargi (1987) and Marg (1992 but unreleased) besides directing Dil Aashna Hai (1991) and Mohini (1994) for Television. She is still seen in the occasional film (Hey Ram (2000)) but she is content today to see elder daughter Esha try to make her mark as an actress. She has also directed TV serials Noopur (1990) and Women of India (1996). Hema Malini was awarded the Padma Bhushan in 1999 for her contribution to Indian Cinema. I m not jealous says Hema Malini Mumbai: She is the Dream Girl of Hindi cinema and for a change she is not talking about her dance but her very own Greek God, Dharmendra and his new film Apne. CNN-IBN corresspondent, Varsha Pillai, caught up with Hema Malini for an exclusive chat. Varsha Pillai: What did you think when you saw Apne for the first time? Hema Malini: My immediate reaction after seeing Apne was ˜wow'. That's the way he has to make a comeback. Varsha Pillai: What did you think of his role in Metro? Hema Malini: I liked his role in Metro. His character, the entire concept of that elderly couple was very sweet. However, I thought his role was a bit small in the movie. Varsha Pillai: Dharmendra values your opinion a lot and you are quite a critic when it comes to his roles. How does he take that? Hema Malini: Yes, that's true. I keep telling him, ˜don't do this, don't do that' and he always wonders whether I will like his film or not. But I really liked Apne when I saw it. I told him that it is a beautiful film and you have made me very proud. (smiles) Varsha Pillai: Dharmendra had once said that he would like to do a Roman Holiday with Preity Zinta. How do you react to that? Hema Malini: I think as an actor he should do it. Why not? I am not jealous or anything. We have crossed that stage of feeling jealous for each other. He's a very fine actor. Varsha Pillai: Did seeing Dharmendra, Sunny and Bobby together in a film make you feel that you would like to do a film with both your daughters? Hema Malini: Yes sure. Definitely I would love to do a film with my daughters. (laughs) Reference Source |

25 Mar 2007, 0916 hrs IST,MUMBAI MIRROR http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/articleshow/1804741.cms COOL MOMMY: Hema Malini's younger daughter Ahana Deol has been dating young VJ Aditya Roy Kapoor for a couple of months now (TOI Photo) Hema Malini's younger daughter Ahana Deol has been dating young VJ Aditya Roy Kapoor for a couple of months now. The two have been close friends and it looks like the friendship has gradually turned into love. Incidentally, Hema disapproved Esha's affair with Aftab Shivdasani. But Hema has turned into a cool mommy over the years. She recently stated in an interview, "At this age Ahana should have a boyfriend... why are you making a big deal out of this?" Reportedly, Ahana is always spotted with VJ Aditya and even her elder sister Esha is fond of him. A close friend says, "Hemaji is aware of the fact that Aditya is Ahana's good friend. He often visits Hema's residence and was even spotted at Esha's private screening of Just Married ." So, is Ahana planning to settle down? "Not now. Hemaji has made it very clear that Ahana needs to be independent and make her mark as an individual and only then think of getting married," says the close friend. |

Hema Malini IDI907 by Bhawana Somaaya, Foreword by Gulzar Hardcover (Edition: 2007) Roli books Pvt. Ltd. ISBN 8174364676 Size: 8.9" X 5.8" Pages: 218 (Illustrated Throughout in B/W & Color) From the Jacket Hema Malini, the quintessential 'Dream Girl' of Hindi cinema has truly nurtured a dream, and followed it to its realization. After being unceremoniously dropped from her first Tamil film as the director felt that she didn't have 'star quality'. Hema signed the Hindi film she was offered opposite Raj Kapoor. Just eighteen, she soon conquered the hearts of all moviegoers with her beauty, grace and charisma. From Johnny Mera Naam to sholay, from Meera to Baghbaan, she has portrayed a diverse range of characters that will always remain a part of the film legend. Raj Kapoor, Dev Anand, Sanjeev Kumar... She worked with all the leading stars, but it was with Dharmendra that the chemistry on screen was palpable. The special bond she shared with Dharmendra set the rumour mills buzzing and defying all conventions, Hema married her jat hero in May 1980. Striking a perfect balance between her personal and professional life, Hema maintains a dignity about the little world she shares with daughter Esha and Ahana. This intimate portrayal, the first authorized biography, by Bhawana Somaaya is a result of her long years of association with Hema as a film journalist and critic. Hema speaks to Bhawana more candidly than ever before about her life, with and without Dharmendra, her children, her mother and her twin passions of dance and acting. About Author A writer-journalist and film-critic, Bhawana Somaaya is the recipient of the Mahila Shiromani Award (1990) for her contribution to the field of journalism and her various prominent titles published over the years. She has regularly contributed to various columns in Sunday observer, Afternoon, Janmabhoomi Pravasi, Hindustan Times. The Hindu, The Pioneer and the News time. Author of well known titles like Amitabh Bachchan-The Legend, Salaam Bollywood, Take-25, The Story so far and cinema: Images and Issues, Somaaya is currently the editor of Screen, the extremely popular film weekly from the Indian Express Group. Back Of The Book 'There are no doubts that in the history of Hindi cinema Hema Malini has had the longest reign as a number one star. No heroine before or after her has enjoyed her position or power despite several limitations and hurdles she has pushed herself to the optimum level to explore varied mediums like television, direction and at the moment Parliament.'-Gulzar 'We value opportunities only in retrospect. When I was doing films, it was never with the intention that they could turn out to be milestones someday. At that point I was so caught up with the pressures of day-to-day shooting, of make-up...dialogues... dance steps... rehearsals... that it is only now that I realize how fortunate I have been. Films today have little emphasis on the story... the location, costumes, presentation are exotic... but the roles are far from memorable.'- Hema Malini. Preface To agree to a biography reflects a state of mind. It means you are ready to reflect on your past actions. Part of me was ready for the exercise for I believed that not analyzing meant escaping. Unless I'm able to accept myself with all my inadequacies, how can I, in all sincerity, complet my relationships with my dear ones? My daughters insisted that I should. At least this way they could connect with all that happened to me when they were not a part of my life. I bided my time, asked myself if I was willing to share my private world with strangers...I felt hesitant. Connecting with your fans via your films is one thing and exposing your heartbreaks and the struggle that made the dream possible quite another. Time went by... Then one evening, as I was driving to my new home in Goregaon, I saw the crimson sun dive into the sea. The moment was a reminder that the best of things have to end sometime. Something resolved for me that moment... I had made up my mind... My mother always said that we assume that we make decisions. But it is destiny all the time that holds our finger and leads us to our karma... I would not have been able to achieve all I did in my life and career without the passion and devotion of one woman, my mother. She has been the signal of all my turning points, both on celluloid as well as on stage. Before I plunged into the final decision of unveiling the varied phases of my life via this book, I needed to seek her approval. As always, she surprised me with her candour. 'You should have done it a long time ago... And you need not be scared of people's reactions because you can do it your way, the way you always have.' I guess that's what I've done, spoken from the heart. This one is for you Amma... Don't live in the past:Hema
30 Oct 2007, 0000 hrs IST, Roshni K Olivera,TNN Hema Malini. (TOI Photo) Hema Malini, the original dream girl, not only looks graceful and stunning, but is constantly on the move. Never rest on your past laurels is her mantra in life You are the original dream girl. How does it feel to have that tag? I feel honoured. It has tagged on to me. The dream girl tag just happened. I was introduced like that. My first movie was Sapnon Ke Saudagar. I was introduced as dream girl. Actually it suited me well because I was quite a shy person. In many ways I was seen as somebody unapproachable. I was very aloof and kept to myself. Of course some people misunderstood that and thought I was arrogant. In those days you were very particular about your clothes and refused to wear anything revealing... Yes. People accepted it and the producers too were okay with it. They could have said ˜goodbye you are not doing the film' but they didn't. The trend today is very different with top heroines willing to portray a hot sexy image... It's a different trend today. Maybe if I was introduced in these times even I would have followed the same. You look as stunning as you did then... I don't know. We are ageing. It's work that keeps me going. There's so much I want to do. I am learning every single day. There are many people who keep talking about the past. Maybe it was glorious, but it's time to move on. I feel when you keep focussing on your past achievements, you are finished. What happened in the past is over. One has to look at the present. You have to live for today. You are doing many things at the same time...right from being a dancer to acting to politics. You've got to have the desire and the aspiration. If you believe you can do something, you can do it. Today when you look around women are soaring to such great heights. In many fields they are doing very well, including in business. That's fantastic. What's it like being a politician... I won't call myself a politician. I am in the party. I am doing work for the party. Women like Brinda Karat, Sushma Swaraj are politicians. I am able to do a few things and I'm glad about that. I have been given this platform and I'm grateful for that. You are like a friend to your daughters Esha and Aahana... I'm so happy to have my lovely beautiful girls. People ask me if I miss having a son and I tell them when my lovely daughters will get married I'll have two readymade sons. And how would you describe Dharamji? Dharamji is a wonderful person. Hema Malini honoured for contribution to dance
Mihir Trivedi / CNN-IBN Published on Sun, Mar 09, 2008 at 10:04 in Entertainment section HEMA'S DREAM GIG: The actress was delighted on being awarded for dance - her first passion. Mumbai: Dream girl Hema Malini was recently given an award for her contribution to classical dance. The actor and Parliamentarian happily accepted the praise and the honours that were showered on her at an event in Mumbai on Friday and it did not take her long to slip on her dancing shoes. What made the award more special was the fact that it was presented to her for her contribution to dance, her first love. "I am very happy I got this award," she said, adding that the day was auspicious – succeeding Mahashivratri and preceding Women's Day. For her fans, it was a special occasion just watching their idol perform before their very eyes. "She's an artist par excellence," enthused singer Sonu Nigam. "She's led her life with so much dignity, anyone would be totally in awe of her." The actress-danseuse took the opportunity to shower praise on a film she recently saw, and gave a tongue-in-cheek explanation why the film had struck a chord with her. "I liked watching Jodhaa-Akbar. In the film, I saw glimpses of both Meera Bai and Razia Sultana, in both the hero and heroine, as I have done both films," she said, to the delight of her fans. Few will deny that in many ways, she's the original dream girl, radiantly beautiful and supremely talented, a cut above the rest, and a star forever. They certainly don't make them like Hema Malini anymore. Reference Source |

Biography reveals dream girl's love affairs
Thursday March 22, 2007 (1356 PST) India: Bollywood Dream girl, Hema Malini who ruled the Indian film industry for many years. She was known for her grace, charisma and dignity on Silver screen. Bollywood -- Hema Malini, the ˜Dream girl', is known for her grace, charisma and dignity on screen. But there's a lot more to her than meets the eye. While Hema has found domestic bliss albeit in an unconventional set up, she was far from a goody-two-shoes and had her fair share of admirers notably actors Sanjeev Kumar and Jeetendra. While this may be common knowledge in Bollywood circles, Hema for the first time talks openly about them in her recently launched biography. The most eye-opening revelation is that Hema Malini and Jeetendra were all set to tie the knot, with even their parents agreeing to the match. But Hema backed out of the wedding literally at the altar - and no it wasn't because of Dharmendra, but simply because she got cold feet! A paragraph in the biography reads, "Jeetendra persisted that they should just travel to Tirupathi and get married. For a brief moment Hema consented, but then something held her back." Hema Malini and Jeetendra in a still from the film ˜Dulhan' as featured in the biolgraphy The actress also opens up about actor Sanjeev Kumar who was reportedly driven to liquor because of his unrequited love for Hema Malini. Oddly enough, it was to champion Sanjeev's cause that Jeetendra became friends with Hema in the first place, and then ended up falling in love with her himself – quite a love triangle! It is said that Sanjeev Kumar could not handle the rejection and took to drinking heavily. His friends blamed Jeetendra for manipulating Hema's affection, but those close to Hema reveal that Jeetendra was completely transparent. Hema's biographer meanwhile, claims that the book is about a lot more than just Hema's love life. "The entire media is just concentrating on the men and romance chapter in the questions. She is a complete persona," insists Hema's biographer Bhawana Somaaya. Well, that might be true, but at the end of the day we are pretty sure that the loves of Hema's life are going to be the reason the book flies off the shelves. "I had to be very loud in 123" - Esha Deol
By Subhash K. Jha, March 31, 2008 - 10:12 IST Having played the loud Tamilian rather loudly in 123, Esha Deol is quite embarrassed at the noise decibel she has raised in the film. "It's what the role required. It's what I was required to do. I followed what the director Ashwani Dheer wanted. But when I saw myself on screen at the premiere I cringed a bit." Esha's one regret. Her mom, the irradiant Hema Malini, couldn't be there to watch her daughter play a Tamilian. "My mother has become quite a jet-setter traveling all over the place for her dance recitals. She's in Kolkata right now. I'll make her see 123 as soon as she returns." The boisterous bit on screen notwithstanding, Esha was quite the lady at the premiere in her chic makeup and elegant gown. "I guess I wanted to create a contrast to my loud brassy character in the film (laughs). People see me as a tomboy. But I can be quite a lady if I want to be." Esha is now gearing up for the release of her first kick-ass action film Hijack. "But let me warn you, I don't do any of the kickboxing and all that stuff I'm dying to do on screen one day. Though this is a hijack-adventure story, all the action converges on Shiny Ahuja. I'm the air hostess therefore very timid and gentle. The director, Kunal Shivdasani, made sure I don't jump out of character suddenly. It's a very realistic action drama." She dismisses all the stories of her differences with Shiney. "I don't know where that came from. Shiney and I had a great time shooting Hijack." Hijack would be Esha's last film for a while. "I haven't signed anything. And I won't until something worthwhile comes along." Reference Source This message has been edited. Last edited by: Demerara_Guy, |

Honours for a danseuse
Express news service Posted online: Friday , March 21, 2008 at 1306 hrs Every year playback singer Suresh Wadkar and his music school Ajivasan Studio felicitate a renowned artiste from a performing medium with the Uttam Vaggayekar Jialal Vasant Award. Last year Lata Mangeshkar was honoured with the award and this year's recipient was Hema Malini. The function was held recently at the Ajivasan Hall in Mumbai. Hema Malini said she felt privileged that this award was for the dancer and not the actress. "Any award preceded by Lataji's honour is a matter of pride for me. I have the highest regard for Suresh Wadkar, who is not only a great singer in films but is a gifted classical singer and tutor to so many budding talents. The occasion is extra-special for me because I am honoured and given the opportunity to offer a tribute to Lord Shiva with a Bharatnatyam performance at a time close to Mahashivratri," said the dream girl. The Ajivasan hall was filled with the classical ambience of Indian arts. The function began with students singing a welcome song and then Hema Malini was conferred with the prestigious Uttam Vaggayekar Jialal Vasant Award for the year 2008 for her contribution to performing arts. Suresh Wadkar, Prem Vasant (Wadkar's sister), Taufiq Qureshi, Sushil Kumar Shinde, Kripa Shankar Singh and Hema Malini graced the opening ceremony of the function. Shinde spoke highly about Hema Malini and her contributions to art apart from her Bollywood career. Shinde also bestowed the honour upon her. Hema Malini added a note by mentioning "I am glad to receive this award at time when the Woman's Day is just around the corner. It gives me pride to represent womanhood at such a spectacular occasion". She was awarded an amount of Rs. 1,00,000 and a 1 1/4 kg silver brick with the inscriptions of eight Hindu shlokas. At the awards ceremony, ace danseuse Hema Malini dressed in a bright red saree, made a dancing tribute to Lord Shiva and had another recital depicting the story of Lord Narsimha. Renowned percussionist Taufiq Qureshi also rocked the audiences with a high-octane performance at the evening. The event was attended by Who's Who of singing world like Sonu Nigam with wife, Talat Aziz with wife and Rahul Vaidya. The event was organised by Eventura Global Entertainment. Dance for a cause
Shailja Shah Purohit It was a mesmerising evening for the Delhi audience who got to see Hema Malini and her two daughters perform classical dance at the Siri Fort Auditorium on Saturday, December 23, 2006. The evening started with a documentary film by Prayas - organisers of the event - and awakened the audience to the dire straits of the underprivileged child. The girl child was especially in focus, with Renuka Chaudhary - Minister of State for Women and Child Development - chief guest of the evening, also voicing her support and Hema Malini's own commitment to the cause. As compiere Shivani Wazir Pasrich put it aptly - both the women were indeed proud mother's of very talented daughters and so a beacon of light in the fight for the right of the girl child to live. The evening started with a solo performance by Esha Deol followed by Ahana Deol, then came a solo by the much-awaited 'dream-girl' Hema Malini. Thereafter the trio did a performance together. There were more performances by the trio - one particularly interesting was an enactment from the Ramayana and another by the two daughters was a Radha-Krishna dance. The dance configurations were coordinated by Hema Malini's brother Mr Chakravarthy. At the end of the evening Hema reiterated her dedication to the cause of the girl child and Prayas and also said she would be willing to perform for a good cause for any one. Simple, humane and humble - the dreamgirl proved her mettle - but looked for no acclaim - winning many more hearts that evening. Tokens of appreciation were given by Prayas to all its sponsors including Times Foundation. Reference Source This message has been edited. Last edited by: Demerara_Guy, |

Hema Malini wants to do a ballet on Ganges river
Wednesday August 20 2008 DUBAIÂ- Bringing the Ganges river and the issues surrounding it today onstage is the next big dream of veteran Bollywood actres and internationally acclaimed Bharatanatyam dancer Hema Malini. "The next ballet I want to do is on our great river Ganges," said Hema Malini in an interview here. "I have already made the script. I want to bring the Ganges on to the stage," she said. Hema Malini was here, along with her daughters Esha and Ahana Deol, at the invitation of the Indian Business and Professional Council (IBPC), Dubai, for a classical dance recital to mark India's 62nd Independence Day. She explained that her new ballet on the Ganges would carry an environmental message. "It is a beautiful concept, you know. It starts with the mythological beginning (of the Ganges). But it goes into today's time and issues associated with the river. An environmental message will be given," she said. Talking about her other works, Hema Malini was very enthusiastic about another ballet she has developed, called Draupadi. "I have 12 actors playing the roles of the Kauravas and Pandavas. I play the role of Draupadi. Our great epic Mahabharata is then told from Draupadi's point of view," she said. The classical dancer also has big plans for a dance institute, Natyavihar Kalakendra, which she was planning to set up but lamented the fact that she was yet to get land for it. Reference Source |

Hema Malini plays Rajmata Scindia
Dreamgirl to plays Rajmata Vijayaraje Scindia in Ek Thi Rani Aisi Bhi It seems Hema Malini's sojourn with historical biopic continues even after 30years. Bollywood eternal 'Dream Girl' is being signed by nationally acclaimed director Gulbahar Singh for his dream venture "Ek Thi Rani Aisi Bhi". The film is based on the life of Vijayaraje Scindia, queen of Gwalior, played by Hema Malini. The film will be produced by Rajmata Vijayaraje Scindia Smriti Trust. This will be Hema Malini's second historical feature film after Kamal Amrohi's "Razia Sultan". Hema intends to spend time with the Scindia family in Gwalior to know in details about the queen of Gwalior. "The last time I went to Gwalior with my daughter Ahana for a dance performance but never imagined that I would be playing the role of Rajmata," says Hema. Visibly excited about the project the actress feels that she needs to read and research on Rajmata Vijayaraje Scindia so that she can portray the character perfectly on screen. Hema made a stunning come back in Ravi Chopra's "Baghbaan" and later got busy with her dance ballet and parliament. Now, Hema is back to reign bollywood with pivotal role and interesting projects. The mahurat of the film will be commencing on 14th October 2008. BJP leader Smt. Jha, Mumbai, Oct 16: Dream Girl Hema Malini turns an ageless 60 Thursday and her daughters - Esha and Ahana - have planned a grand birthday party where all her close friends will be present, and only one good pal from the film industry - Rekha. "I've kept the birthday party for Saturday when I'll be back from the Tirupati temple after my annual visit with all my relatives. I like to have a birthday party every year for which family and close friends are invited," Hema told IANS. "My close friends are all from outside the industry, except Rekha. I'll only call her. We're very fond of each other over the years. We've been colleagues and friends for decades. I've invited her. I hope she comes," she added. Hema and Rekha featured in Feroz Khan's "Dharmatma", but they didn't have any scenes together. The actress, who is gearing up to play erstwhile Gwalior queen Vijayaraje Scindia in the movie "Ek Thi Rani Aisi Bhi", says she had her first birthday party when she turned 16. "I don't remember any birthday party as a child. Even that 16th birthday party was organised by my producer Ananthswamy who discovered me for Hindi cinema in 'Sapnon Ka Saudagar'. It was when he insisted that I have a birthday party I realised, 'My god, you have party on your birthday?'" Excerpts: Q: So what makes this birthday so special? A: You tell me. People like you make it special for me. Believe it or not, I didn't know what a birthday was until I was 16 years old. I don't remember any birthday party as a child. Even that 16th birthday party was organised by my producer Ananthswamy who discovered me and gave me a chance in "Sapnon Ka Saudagar". It was when he insisted that I have a birthday party I realised, 'My god, you have party on your birthday?' Q: What do you mean? A: My mother never celebrated my or mine or my brother's birthday. I don't know why! Looking back it seems so funny. Sad, no? I think birthdays are big in North India, not so big in the South. Q: So after 16 you became addicted to birthday parties? A: Once you become a star, everyone is eager to celebrate your birthday. There would be a cake on the sets, co-artistes singing for me. I started looking forward to my birthdays. Q: So how are you bringing in your birthday this year? A: It started nicely enough two evening earlier with the 'mahurat' of "Ek Thi Rani Aisi Bhi" where I play Rajmata Vijayraje Scindia. I met Vinod Khanna, my parliamentarian colleague who plays my co-star. He's looking so good these days. We had done one of my favourite films "Meera" together many years ago. Now we're doing another film in the same Rajasthani ambience. Q: You haven't changed at all since "Meera". A: Neither has Vinod Khanna. Q: What about the birthday party? A: I've kept that for Saturday when I'll be back from Tirupati after my annual birthday visit with all my relatives. I like to have a birthday party every year for which family and close friends are invited. Everyone is so busy with their life. This is one time during the year when I'm able to meet all the people who matter to me. Q: And who are they? A: My close friends are all from outside the industry, except Rekha. I'll only call her. We're very fond of each other for years. We've been colleagues and friends for decades. I've invited her. I hope she comes. Q: Who's planning the party? A: Esha and Ahana. Everything is being organised by them while I'm off to Tirupati with about 15 of my relatives including the brother. Q: Will Dharamji be there at the party? A: Of course, he will. What do you mean? He has to be there. Q: And your fans, how do they connect on your birthday? A: There're some fans for years who would go crazy if I don't let them wish me. I make it a point to take their call on my birthday. There's a lady from Nasik Lata Shirke. She's so fond of me. She sends all kinds of gifts like perfumes. I truly value this kind of love. And when you say no one in the industry speaks badly of me I feel my life is worth it. Q: When you visited Tirupati on your birthday what you prayed for? A: I hardly have anything to ask for. I just want to be doing the right things in life. And to create new opportunities for myself. I can feel god with me all the time. Also, I'd like to produce a film with Esha in the lead. I don't know why that isn't happening as quickly as I want. Q; What gift would you like this birthday? A: Some new level of excitement in my life? Can you suggest something |

Hema Malini turns 60, but feels 16
Indo-Asian News Service Mumbai, October 16, 2008 First Published: 13:07 IST(16/10/2008) Last Updated: 14:24 IST(16/10/2008) Dream comes true!: As the dream girl of Bollywood turns 60 today, she leaves behind a trail of memorable roles. Even today her kitty is full with promising films. An actor, classical dancer, filmmaker and politician - Bollywood's 'dream girl' Hema Malini who juggles different roles with aplomb, turns 60 on Thursday but says she still feels 16 at heart. "I feel 16 at 60. I guess age has nothing to do with creativity, but it certainly has a lot to do with maturity and dedication. I have lived life on my own terms and conditions and now when I look back, I feel happy about all the decisions I have taken," Hema said in a statement released here on Wednesday. The actress, who is also a Bharatanatyam dancer-choreographer, plans to start her special day by offering prayers at the famed Tirupati Temple in Andhra Pradesh with daughters Esha and Ahana Deol. "The best way to celebrate one's birthday is by praying to the lord for peace and harmony in the world. In times of terrorism and global financial depression, I guess we can only find peace in our prayers," Hema said. Known for her memorable performances in films like Johnny Mera Naam, Seeta aur Geeta, Jugnu, Sholay, Dream Girl, Satte Pe Satta, Khushboo and Baghban, the actress has had a successful film career spanning almost 40 years. However, Hema's entry into films was not a cakewalk for her. In 1964, she was rejected by director for not having star appeal when she tried her luck in southern cinema. Hema got her break in Sapnon ka Saudagar opposite Raj Kapoor in 1968 but became an overnight star with Johnny Mera Naam in 1970. By 1972, she gained the status of the reigning Bollywood star and the success of her double-role in Seeta Aur Geeta fetched her the Filmfare award for best actress in 1973. Throughout her career, Hema has been paired opposite a range of actors but it was her on-screen chemistry with actor Dharmendra - whom she later married - that made the duo a hit pair in films like Sholay, Charas, Jugnu, Seeta Aur Geeta and The Burning Train. Hema took a sabbatical from the big-screen in the early 1990s during which she tried her hand at direction with box office dud Dil Aashna Hai in 1992 that was Shah Rukh Khan's launchpad. The actress made a comeback in 2003 with box office hit Baghban opposite Amitabh Bachchan and since then has been seen in films like Veer-Zaara, Baabul and Laaga Chunari Mein Daag. An acclaimed dancer, Hema does not think age is a deterrent and plans to continue performing Bharatnatyam and her dance ballets across the country and abroad. Representing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Hema is a Rajya Sabha member. Asked how she manages to juggle different roles in life, she said: "Its all about time management and I guess one can do even more than this if we sort out our priorities." Hema's future projects include Ek Thi Rani Aisi Bhi, Saadiyan and Deepa Sahi's directorial venture opposite Nana Patekar. Reference Source |

Hema Malini steals march over Manmohan on Day One at PanIIT
20 Dec 2008, 0040 hrs IST, TNN Reference Source - The Times of India CHENNAI: It's the place for the greatest engineering minds India has produced to network, listen to lectures by eminent cholars, wander down memory lane, and see what other alumni have been doing. But on Thursday, Day One of Pan IIT, Hema Malini seemed to be the foremost thought on their minds. Ex-IITians from across the world assembled at the Student Activity Centre to watch Prime Minister Manmohan Singh inaugurate the three-day event in a wireless ribbon-cutting ceremony. A couple of hours later, the same sedate people were rushing across campus to the IC&SR auditorium to see Hema Malini perform. Present and past IITians, present and past IIT professors, their wives and children were seen walking hastily, running and trying to hitch a ride from one end of the campus to the other PM and HM were unfortunately in completely different parts of the campus to grab a seat. Rumours spread like wildfire that she was going to perform and the words 'Hema Malini' seemed to echo through the forested pathways of the campus since the day began. Almost every other stall in the campus, including the kids carnival, seemed to be running on empty at this time with everyone trying to enter the auditorium. Long before her "performance" was scheduled to begin, thousands of people crammed into the hall and the ones not lucky enough to get a seat peered over, under and around each other to catch a glimpse of the actor-dancer. And then came the crushing announcement that dashed the hopes of every member of the audience a dance troupe, and not Hema Malini, was going to perform. Although they did an excellent job, as IITians in the audience grudgingly admitted, well, they were not Hema Malini. All the actress did was smile at the dancers and then felicitate them. It was then announced that Hema Malini would participate in a panel discussion, but by then, the disappointed audience had trickled out of the hall. One former IITian said, "I left soon after she started speaking. She wasn't going to dance, you know." timeschennai@timesgroup.com Reference Source - The Times of India |

It's Hema and Sallu on the dance floor!
Hema Malini says shaking an energetic leg with Salman Khan made her feel really young. If Amitabh Bachchan can shake a leg with youngsters like Rani Mukherji, Aishwarya Rai and Preity Zinta, why should Hema Malini be left behind? So the danseuse has taken to the dance floor with Salman Khan in Ravi Chopra's forthcoming venture Baabul. Hema Malini plays Salman's mother in the film. So, how was the experience of shooting a dance sequence with Salman? Hema says, "It was nice working with Salman. When Ravi Chopra asked me to do a dance number in the film, I readily agreed thinking that it would be similar to what I had done with Amitji in Baghbaan. But when he asked me to dance with Salman in the song, I was sceptical. I have never danced with an actor of this generation. But Salman made me feel very comfortable on the sets. He has his own style of dancing and I have my own. Incidentally, we both respect the other's form of dance," says Hema Malini. Is it very different to dance with a young actor? "It makes you feel young. You feel good about the fact that you are changing with the times. I am not the kind of actor who keeps complaining, 'Hamare zamane mein toh aisa hota tha aur waisa hota tha.' (Things were different in our times.) I believe in change. An actor should evolve with time. As far as learning the steps are concerned, I am a fast learner and I would pick up any step and any form of dance provided it's not vulgar. I am very particular about my dance steps on screen, I would put my foot down if I felt the steps were not graceful," says Hema. And what was Salman's reaction after the shot? "That you need to ask Salman," she laughs, "We are professional actors and I think he is very sincere." Incidentally Salman Khan was equally excited at the idea of dancing with Hema Malini. "Salman respects Amitji and Hemaji. After giving the shot he said, 'Now I can tell my grandchildren that I have danced with Hemaji. She is such a beautiful person,'" says Ravi Chopra. The song has been composed by Aadesh Srivastava, choreographed by Remo and sung by Amitabh Bachchan and Salman. "The steps which my choreographer had shown initially were those which I have not performed in ages. It was awkward to do such steps, but I picked them up quickly enough. People know me as a trained classical dancer, so it will be a surprise for viewers to see me dancing to a modern song," she says. It was Ravi Chopra's idea to make Hema Malini dance with Salman Khan. "How can you make a film with Hema Malini and not have her dance?" says Ravi. "Hemaji is one of the finest dancers Indian cinema has produced. In Baghbaan she created magic with Amitji. In Baabul, she will be seen in a dance sequence where Amitji and Salman are having a dance competition with Hemaji. We all were surprised to see Hemaji dancing so gracefully with Salman in the song. In fact there is another track in the film, where she dances with Rani too," he says. Reference Source |

Hema Malini not to contest LS polls, Dharmendra too unlikely
Saturday, March 14, 2009 News Update Service Entertainment Reference Source - The Hindu, India New Delhi (PTI): Actor-turned-politician Hema Malini will not contest the coming Lok Sabha elections but will campaign for the BJP, party President Rajnath Singh said on Saturday. "We wanted Hema Malini to contest the Lok Sabha elections and even asked her for her opinion on the issue. After deliberating, she told me that she would like to campaign for the BJP but was not keen on contesting," Mr. Singh told reporters here. Mrs. Malini is a BJP MP in the Rajya Sabha where her tenure expires in September, 2010. Mr. Rajnath Singh's remarks came against the backdrop of reports that the BJP could field the "dream-girl" from New Delhi constituency. With her being ruled out, the propsects of Delhi Mayor Arti Mehra or General Secretary Vijay Goel getting BJP ticket for New Delhi constituency may have brightened, party sources said. The yesteryears filmstar has been a big crowd-puller for the BJP in assembly elections held last year in Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh. The BJP is also not likely to field Mrs. Malini's husband and actor Dharmendra who is a sitting Lok Sabha MP from Bikaner. The constituency has been reserved post-delimitation. Another matinee idol and sitting BJP MP Vinod Khanna has been given party ticket from Gurdaspur in Punjab. Film-star Shatrughan Sinha is likely to contest from Patnasaheb in Bihar. Hema Malini on the cover of JadeFriday, March
13, 2009, 16:27 [IST] Courtesy: Bollywood Hungama Reference Source - One India This was a 'theme' that was simply waiting to happen in the minds and hearts of the entire magazine tribe. We are indeed talking about the coming together of the 'Dream Girl' Hema Malini alongwith her two gorgeous and talented daughters Esha Deol and Ahana Deol, posing for the cover. And this 'Dream' has been translated into reality by Jade. This issue is simply for the keeps as it contains never seen before images of the Mother-daughters trio. When asked about how did a South Indian cope in a North dominated film industry, Hema, in her own sweet ways and voice opines that "There is no north-south divide at all in the film industry. It's all in the minds of the public." She also speaks about her first tele-serial called 'Noopur', which was launched in the early nineties. Madame' Hema also answers questions about 'What's missing from today's actresses, How she would be remembered, What's her take on today's Bollywood...'to say the least. As we said before, this issue is surely a Collector's item. And mind you, if you were not a Collector before, this issue will make you one. Jade is the way to go! Reference Source - One India |

Who's a safer bet as a brand ambassador?
25 Mar 2009, 0618 hrs IST, Prasad Sangameshwaran, ET Bureau Reference Source - The Economic Times The glamour girls of the past may have wrapped up their stint in Bollywood, but when it comes to the small screen, they still continue to apply the mascara. Brand marketers are only too eager to give Sharmila Tagore, Hema Malini and Juhi Chawla an extended role as brand ambassadors in the hope of breaking the clutter. According to a report by AdEx India, a division of TAM Media, if one takes into account all the television commercials showing Juhi Chawla across TV channels in 2008, the former leading lady hogged 325 hours of commercial time during the ad breaks. Even the charm of the ‘dream girl’ from the past lingered on television, as Hema Malini clocked 84 hours of advertising secondage, despite being off the radar in terms of big ticket Bollywood releases. “The appeal of the yesteryears is still very strong,” says L V Krishnan, CEO, TAM Media. When it comes to cricketers and other sports stars, clearly it was a case of out-of-sight from the ground means out-of-the-minds of brand marketers. Cases in point: Rahul Dravid, Virender Sehwag, Saurav Ganguly and Anil Kumble who did not find themselves in the thick of on-ground action, were relegated to playing bit-roles even in ads. For example, cricketer Sourav Ganguly managed to score only 67 hours of commercial time, followed by Rahul Dravid (45 hours), Anil Kumble (a paltry two minutes) and Virender Sehwag was declared out for no score, although given his current purple patch, brands may soon come flocking to him. Even tennis star Sania Mirza could gather only 22 hours to her credit last year. Krishnan says that the difference lies in “sustaining the appeal” that a celebrity generates. If the study is an indication, when it comes to generating mass appeal and sustaining it, film personalities score far higher compared to sports stars. Take the case of the Hindi film stars, Shahrukh Khan and Aamir Khan. In 2008, SRK was seen endorsing 42 brands in 81 creative executions and the duration of his ad presence was a 1,639 hours. Even the normally selective Aamir had a long role to play during commercial breaks, with ads featuring him running for 647 hours during 2008 (more than double the time he was seen in 2007). Expectedly, filmstars lead the pack when it came to combined airtime taken in 2008. While the top five sports ambassadors (read, cricketers) were present for 2,742 hours of commercials last year, the top five filmstar ambassadors were present for more than 6,303 hours during the same period. Among the strong gainers on the celebrity endorsement front was Saif Ali Khan, who despite having only a single hit in the last three years, still managed to grow his endorsement kitty to 23 brands, putting him next only to Shahrukh and Dhoni. Krishnan says that Saif possibly managed that due to a high share of voice he generated through PR as well as delivering the brand fit which marketers seek from a celebrity endorser. Also, more brands used celebrities in 2008 than in the previous year. In 2007, only 88 brands used celebrities, while 98 brands used celebrities to push their products in 2008. If the last five years are any indication, that list has only got longer. Reference Source - The Economic Times |

Film stars have made useful contributions in the field of politics: Date Submitted: Thu Apr 23, 2009 Reference Source - India Journal, India Film stars have made useful contributions in the field of politics, star Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) poll campaigner Hema Malini said. “There had been notable contributions in politics by persons from the film industry. Former Tamil Nadu chief minister M G Ramachandran, former Andhra Pradesh chief minister N T Rama Rao, former union minister Sunil Dutt and BJP’s Vinod Khanna, they all were from the film industry,” Hema said. “There are several people from the film industry who have had done good work in the field of politics...” she said. However, apparently quashing the prospect of her contesting elections in near future, the ‘dream girl’ of the 70s said, she has two children and home to look after, besides devoting the time to her “first-love, dance and acting”. “I don’t believe in doing everything at the same time. The day when I come to know that I can be able to handle a big constituency, I will contest,” she said. About the possibility of her actress-daughter Esha Deol entering politics, Malini said, it depended on Esha’s own decision but she could enter politics in another ten years time. “Esha always keeps track of political developments and it is because of her consent that I am sitting here before you... When the time will come, may be ten years from now, and if my daughters Esha and Ahana wish they could enter politics,” Malini said. “It is important to teach our children the importance of politics as they think politics is dirty and don’t want to join the trail. They should be made to know about government functioning,” she said. Asked if by asking her children to enter politics she did not contradict the BJP’s attack against dynastic politics, the reigning celluloid queen of the 70s said she was “against forceful occupation at the helm of affairs in an organization”. “It is quite natural that a doctor’s offspring aspires to become a doctor and a politician’s in politics. But any forceful occupation at the helm of affairs is bad. Everyone should get a scope to come forward and given a chance to speak,” Malini said. On the charge that her husband Dharmendra was not active politically in Bikaner, she said, “He had done a lot in Bikaner. But he never goes to town with his work unlike many others who are tempted to exaggerate.” Reference Source - India Journal, India |

By: Bollywood Mantra Staff on 14th May 2009 Reference Source - Bollywood Mantra Hema Malini and Esha Deol at Lok Sabha Elections 2009 Esha Deol’s staying away from films and media lead to the rumor that she has undergone botox and facelift treatment. To this rumor, mother Hema Malini reacted strongly and denied of her daughter undergoing any such cosmetic treatment. Actress and member of Rajya Sabha feels proud to be called Esha’s mother as she is not into any sort of alleged relationship with her co-stars and moving on the right track. She even spills that beam that she is looking for a perfect groom for Esha. “I must thank God that Esha hasn’t taken that route to fame. She doesn’t have boyfriends or even boys who are her friends. She gets linked to all her co-actors but I know she’s clean. She will find a suitable man, ask my permission and marry him. I’m also on the look out for an appropriate groom for her,” says the eternal beauty. Esha who fail to rise to stardom like her parents is currently concentrating on her dance and exercise routines. Hema Malini: SEETA AUR GEETA Revisited!
May 18, 2009 3:41:04 PM IST Bollywood Trade News Network Reference Source - GlamSham Beauties like Hema Malini are timeless and so are some of the characters they portray. Whether Basanti from SHOLAY or the different as chalk and cheese Seeta and Geeta from the movie SEETA AUR GEETA. Well, the big one is all set to come to the small one. That is - the movie is being remade for small screen. NDTV Imagine will soon have SEETA AUR GEETA, which will be produced by Sunil Bohra with Anjorie Alagh portraying the title role of both Seeta and Geeta. Well, since the producer couldn't have the dream girl act in the show, he decided to have the next best option; he called the beautiful Hema Malini to grace his press conference at least. As he says, ''I approached Hemaji through a common friend of mine. Initially Hemaji was very reluctant but my friend, who is a senior journalist, managed to get her. When I discussed this idea with the channel they were very happy and coordinated everything thereafter.'' But, Hema Malini has such an effect on people that on the day of the conference he couldn't utter a word. ''I had cold feet for the first time. Hema Malini is the epitome of beauty and dignity. When I was asked to speak, it was like I lost my voice and just thanked her for the special gesture,'' says Sunil. When it concerns someone like Hema Malini herself, even the coolest of them are spellbound. Ask Salman Khan John Abraham, for example. Reference Source - GlamSham |

A TV show for Hema Malini's fans
Sinndhuja Ramprasad First Published : 01 Jun 2009 10:13:59 AM IST Last Updated : 01 Jun 2009 10:51:00 AM IST Reference Source - Express Buzz BANGALORE: Fans of Hema Malini’s Seeta Aur Geeta can look forward to a daily dose of the blockbuster movie adapted into a TV series. NDTV Imagine’s new show, which began this week, spans 200 episodes. So now you can relive evil Chachi’s tricks and Geeta’s antics all over again — minus our Dream Girl, of course. The role of identical twins is played by Anjorie Alagh. Director Maqbool Khan, who insists that Alagh’s innocence is her USP, says, ‘‘I actually scoured the town high and low, did more than 20 screen tests and finally decided on Anjorie. She wasn’t involved in any other project earlier and that made it easier for us. She was innocent and…raw.’’ It was producer’s idea to adapt the movie. ‘‘He liked Seeta aur Geeta very much and we had a talk with the producers of the movie and got the rights. Hence we have retained the name.’’ Admitting that converting a three-hour movie into 200 half-hour episodes was a tall task, the director continues, ‘‘We worked around the film’s high points and built the screenplay around it. It won’t feel like a TV series, more like a 70s film.’’ There are new characters in the series, but Khan chooses to keep this under wraps. ‘‘Remember the Chacha in the movie? He was docile in the movie but here, he’s an a negative character. We also have Chachi’s brother, who is notorious and is into all kinds of strange things.’’ Reference Source - Express Buzz |

Not a very happy 61st birthday for Hema Malini
2009-10-16 10:30:00 Reference Source - SIFY With construction work going on in her house, Hema Malini has fallen ill because of the heat and dust. It isn't a very happy time for Bollywood's dream girl who brought in her 61st birthday Friday without much celebration. 'Where could I have a party or any celebration when my bungalow in Juhu is still under construction? The masons have been hammering away for one full year ever since we shifted back from our Goregaon residence to Juhu in the hope that my presence would speed up the process of construction. But no such luck,' Hema told IANS. 'Yeh log ek baar ghus jaate hain to bas jaane ka naam nahin lete (Once these people enter your house, they are not ready to go). Three of the four floors are done. But the ground floor is still under construction,' said Hema who has now taken ill because of the heat and dust in the house. 'The constant dust in the house is taking its toll on my health. I've a very bad throat and a viral fever. So there was no birthday celebration. It was just me and my family.' The one bright spot this birthday is the film that Hema is producing for her daughter. 'It's something I wanted to do for a long time. And I'm finally doing it.' Reference Source - SIFY |

Choli ke peeche kya hai!
Nimisha Tiwari, TNN 30 December 2009, 12:00am IST Topics: fashion trend backless blouse If the question is choli ke peeche kya hai, then the answer is feminine freedom... the Indian woman, following her Western counterpart’s less-is-more maxim with the little black dress, has given a new twist to the traditional saree blouse. Bold cuts, daring strings, and tantalising low backs are in, giving the garment popularised on screen by Bollywood beauties from the time of Asha Parekh and Mumtaz to Hema Malini and Zeenat Aman a refreshing sex appeal. Bollywood designer Neeta Lulla, who’s seen these changes, says, “I’ve witnessed an inspiring trail of blouse cuts. Ever since Madhuri Dixit did her Dhak Dhak song in a backless blouse with doris, women have realised the immense potential of their mundane blouses. They approach me to copy a filmi blouse but insist on keeping it within the confines of traditional ethos. Tackiness has paved way for modern elegance. And the Indian woman has started to voice her choice unconcerned what men would think of her in the social circles. Clothes often are a medium for her voice to be heard.” With Bollywood showing the way, women are enjoying the new sense of freedom that the simple blouse is now offering. Bollywood designer Manish Malhotra, hailed for his unparalleled craftsmanship in blouses, where he fuses the western look to an Indian cut effortlessly, asks, “The wrap blouse, the criss-cross back and halter look, could anyone imagine a blouse with such bold looks some years ago? Today’s woman demands an appreciative glance and wants to feel satisfied with the way she looks.” Designer Vikram Phadnis adds, “It’s also to do with the fact that the new age woman is well-travelled, well-read and open to experimentation. While most of the times, it’s the occasion which demands the look of late women have started to define the norms of the occasion too! And they express it with their attire. A traditional saree may have it’s limitations but a blouse can spring up many surprises with its low cuts and sensuous shapes.” The revolution for freedom began in the minds long ago. And the buttoned-up, traditional blouse only popped its hooks to give way for realisation of dreams well beyond the confines of fashion. Reference Source - Times of India |

Very few people know about the fact that Shreyas is a great mimic and can imitate many people from within the filmi world. He says, “I used to do a lot of mimicry in college. Box Offfice Decade in Review: 2004 - Veer Zaara, Dhoom 1, Main Hoon Naa
Sunday, January 03, 2010 The year 2004 was marked by successful run at the top by Shah Rukh Khan and Yash Raj's Veer Zaara on a love story depicted between an Indian soldier and a Pakistani woman, with special appearances by Amitabh Bachchan and Hema Malini. The film was similar in concept to Gadar but not as big a hit as Gadar. Shahrukh Khan however had another success in Main Hoon Na, whereas his Swades by Ashutosh Gowarikar didn't move the box office meters much, though it managed to garnish critical acclaim. Ye Lamhe Judai Ke was a washout. Hrithik Roshan's attempt at being an armyman in Lakshya with special appearance by Amitabh Bachchan (Bachchan had number of 'appearances' that year) took a good opening on the hype of the starcast but failed to sustain momentum of 2003. Kyun Ho Gaya Na, a critical film for Vivek Oberoi after failure of his solo release Dum in 2003, proved a major setback for the actor. KHGN in combination with failure of Subhash Ghai's big budget Kisna subsequently proved decisive in defining the actor's decade at the box office. His nemesis Salman Khan wasn't faring much better either. His Dil Ne Jise Apna Kaha and Phir Milenge and Garv couldn't make hay at the box office. One success came in the form of a multistarrer with Akshay Kumar in Mujhse Shaadi Karoge. Speaking of MSK, 2004 can be considered a major year for Akshay Kumar at the box office, with 3 successes: Aitraaz, Mujhse Shaadi Karoge and Khakee. Police Force and Aan made in the ilk of Khakee however could not do much. While 2004's top grosser was Veer Zaara, the breakthrough film and actor of this year was Abhishek Bachchan who surprised the critics with hints of a rustic 'angry young man' type performance in the gritty Yuva (average grosser) and finally hit the box office big in a popcorn fare with Dhoom 1 in August. Dhoom 1 brought back the Yash Raj Banner into the action genre and set up foundations for the Dhoom franchise. It released amidst the peak of the banner's hold over Bollywood with consecutive blockbusters year after year from 2004-2006. However while Dhoom 1 was a hit for Abhishek Bachchan, it could not be compared to Amitabh Bachchan's breakthrough hit Zanjeer in 1973 since Zanjeer was a solo hit whereas Dhoom was a multistarrer. Nonetheless, Dhoom was the biggest ROI hit of 2004. Dismissed in the trade papers initially, it ended up netting about Rs. 4.5 crores from Bombay in 2004, about same as Veer Zaara. South Indian director Priyadarshan made further inroads into Bollywood box office with his offbeat comedy Hulchul. Top heroine of 2004 at the box office was again Preity Zinta with Veer Zaara and Lakshya while Dil Ne Jise Apna Kaha with Salman Khan proved a flop. Rani Mukherjee shot up with Hum Tum, Yuva and supporting role in Veer Zaara. Priyanka Chopra made inroads with Aitraaz and MSK while Kismet, Asambhav, Plan etc. were disasters. Aishwarya Rai continued without success with KHGN and Raincoat. Khakee did somewhat better. Malika Sherawat entered the box office scene with Murder, a minor film on 4 crore budget which netted about 15 crores. Box office highlights of 2004: ====================================== Top Initial Draw: Veer Zaara Top Final Grosser: Veer Zaara Top actor at the Box Office by average: Shahrukh Khan (avg 2004 net for films: Rs. 23 crores. VZ, MHN, Swades, YLJK) Top actress at the box office by average: Preity Zinta (avg 2004 net for films: 24 crores. VZ, Lakshya, DNJAK) Actors Rank in 2004 by total Box office turnover in 2004 (Rs. Nett) ====================================== 1. Shah Rukh Khan - 4 films, 90 crore total 2. Akshay Kumar - 6 films, 90 crore total 3. Amitabh Bachchan - 5 films, 63 crores (excluding sp. apps like Veer Zaara) 4. Abhishek Bachchan - 5 films, 55 crores 5. Salman Khan - 4 films, 49 crores Actors Rank in 2004 by total Box office turnover in 2004 (Rs. Nett) ====================================== 1. Preity Zinta - 3 films, 73 crore total 2. Rani Mukherji - 3 films, 73 crore total 3. Kareena Kapoor - 5 films, 58 crore total 4. Priyanka Chopra - 5 films, 56 crore total 5. Rekha, Hema Malini to share screen
TNN 6 January 2010, 12:00am IST Reference Source- Times of India Filmmaker Raj Kanwar has got the two dream girls of the 70's Hema Malini and Rekha together for his forthcoming film Sadiyaan. The film marks the debut of Shatrughan Sinha’s son Luv Sinha. Now, the film is complete and Raj Kanwar who feels he managed a coup by getting these South Indian beauties together says, “I always wanted to work with Hemaji and Rekhaji. I’m their biggest fan. When I started my career, they had finished their innings as leading ladies. When I was working on the script of Sadiyaan, the script required two powerful actresses who had equal, meaty roles. And I could visualise only Hemaji and Rekhaji in both the roles! I approached them respectively, and was elated when both of them signed the film! It was great to work with both of them. They were through professional, very obedient, there were no ego hassles and both of them got along like a house on fire, chatting away in Tamil during breaks! Now the film is complete and both of them have come up with brilliant performances! It is an experience which I will always cherish.” Reference Source- Times of India |

The hysteria it has generated can only hamper the cure. Instead of apportioning blame we should act as responsible citizens and make sure the citizens are alerted, warned and informed about the disease.” Hema Malini- “I’m not able to understand the gravity of it. Dulha Mil Gaya Review
Monday, January 11, 2010, 8:51 [IST] Read हिन्दी मेंBy: Taran Adarsh, Bollywood Hungama The recipe is simple and uncomplicated... Take My Fair Lady. Add Dulhan Wahi Jo Piya Man Bhaaye. Spray Naseeb Apna Apna. Sprinkle Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge and Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi. Hey presto, Dulha Mil Gaya is ready to serve. In fact, My Fair Lady has been a hot favourite of Bollywood. Recall Man Pasand [Dev Anand, Tina Munim] or Hum Tere Aashiq Hain [Jeetendra, Hema Malini]. Similarly, a number of storytellers have rehashed Rajshri's all-time hit Dulhan Wahi Jo Piya Man Bhaaye [Prem Krishen, Rameshwari] in various avtaars, over the years. Dulha Mil Gaya is a mix of the above-named films. Like they say in filmi lingo, it's old wine in new bottle. So what? How different can a love story be, since this genre has been done to death in Bollywood? Point noted, but the narrative ought to be engaging if it has to strike a chord and that's where Dulha Mil Gaya falters. Merely assembling A-listers and filming the movie at panoramic locations isn't enough. The film ought to have meat and that's missing here. Let me elaborate. Debutante director Mudassar Aziz, who has also penned the script, borrows from the past, going for the tried-and-tested stuff, but the narrative, already low on fuel, comes to a grinding halt by the time it reaches its finale. Donsai [Fardeen Khan], a young commitment-phobic debonair, is petrified with terms like marriage and long-term relationships. Samarpreet [Ishitta Sharma] is a quintessential Punjabi girl, for whom relationships are to be cherished. Shimmer [Sushmita Sen] is a diva from the world of glamour for whom love and relationships aren't important in life as independence and success are. Pawan Raj Gandhi/PRG [Shah Rukh Khan] is a suave multi-millionaire whose heart still remains larger than his bank balance and for whom winning love is the only victory there is. When paths cross for these four characters, they not only land up influencing each other with their outlook on relationships, but also get influenced themselves and learn a whole new meaning of the term. Something that got ignited with D.D.L.J. continues to shimmer to this date. Our stories continue to travel from firangi land to the fields of Punjab. Dulha Mil Gaya too does that [initially], before My Fair Lady and Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi take over. To give the credit where it's due, Dulha Mil Gaya has some interesting moments, but the problem is they are few and far between. One expects things to perk up when SRK's character is introduced [in the post-interval portions], but your hopes go crashing as nothing worthy of note occurs. The writing has gaping flaws, which are difficult to absorb after a point. The girl travels all the way from Punjab to Trinidad and Tobago, but not once do her concerned parents call to enquire how she is. Strangely, even the girl doesn't feel the need to inform them. If that's not enough, Sushmita takes upon herself to tame Fardeen, giving you the impression that she thinks from her heart. But when it comes to her relationship with Shah Rukh, she behaves in a rather odd manner. SRK, on the other hand, seems completely besotted by her, even though she never reciprocates his feelings. Hence, her somersault in the end - just because Ishita has given her some bhashan - doesn't look convincing. Mudassar Aziz's direction is a shade better than his writing. And that's not saying much. Given the fact that newer stories are being attempted in these fast-changing times and in view of the fact that he had some of the best talents on board, Mudassar should've seized the opportunity and told a refreshingly different and absorbing tale. But he doesn't. Sure, a few sequences are clever and smart, but that's not enough. The music is of a mixed variety. 'Akela Dil' is groovy, while the title track is strictly okay. Cinematography is appealing. Sushmita excels in a role that demands her to be hoity-toity. She enacts her part effortlessly. One wishes to see her more often on the big screen! Fardeen does a good job, especially towards the end when he's about to confess something vital to Ishita. Ishita delivers a sincere performance. It's a pity that a superstar like Shahrukh is terribly wasted in an inconsequential role. It may not go down well with his fans. Mohit Chadha has screen presence, but gets no scope. Johny Lever is wasted. Ditto for Tara Sharma. Suchitra Pillai and Howard Rosemeyer are passable. Parikshit Sahni, Bina Kak and Viveck Vaswani are as usual. On the whole, Dulha Mil Gaya doesn't work! One-hour special episodes rule TV
Rachana Dubey , Hindustan Times Mumbai, January 19, 2010 First Published: 18:00 IST(19/1/2010) Reference Source - Hindustan Times Will Anandi get to study again? Will Manav convey the truth to Archana? Will Ammaji get killed this time? Will Antara get a school admission? Can Suman save her husband’s life? These questions might sound familiar because they continuously run on the TV screen while you watch your most-adored daily soap, week after week. Every week, at least two shows have a one-hour special episode dedicated to themselves on Saturday evening. The reason: a supposed high point in the on-going track is close. It’s a fad with Hindi general entertainment channels to run a special 60-minute episode of a 30-minute daily that they feel can get plenty of eyeballs. With competition heating up, channels have discovered this as a means to break viewing patterns and lure viewers to their shows. Earlier, one-hour specials were restricted to a serious high-point or the achievement of a milestone like completing 500 episodes. Though most channels had been doing the one-hour and sometimes, even two-hour specials, it became a regular feature after Colors did a 60-minute run of Uttaran on October 24. The episode’s theme was whether Veer discovers that he’s married to Tapasya and not his love, Iccha and whether he finds out how it all happened. The episode’s ratings ran into 8.5 approximately, making it the highest ever seen by the show. What eventually happened in the episode was that Veer just lifted his bride’s veil and confronted her about what had happened at the wedding. Most viewers had expected a lot more drama, which unfolded only in the following episodes. Subsequently, every channel had a 60-minute run of their popular shows, as and when they had a ‘high point.’ Weekend movies and reality shows took a backseat. According to Saurabh Tiwari of Colors, it was a strategic decision that worked. “Every show has high points. It’s cool to highlight them in a big way.” Only when it helps Shailaja Kejriwal of NDTV Imagine feels that the special episodes are special-stop gap arrangements in the absence of decent films or non-fiction shows. “The episodes come in handy. My channel hasn’t done it every Saturday. We have done a special episode only when it logically made sense,” she adds. Zee TV, on the other hand, has been as regular with its one-hour specials as Colors. According Sukesh Motwani of Zee TV, it was a luck-by-chance experience for them that triggered off the one-hour series. “We had a special two-hour episode of Chhoti Bahu in which Dev would discover who Radhika really was. It generated a rating of 5 plus which was encouraging. Subsequently, we’ve had more such episodes of Chhoti Bahu and likewise the other shows,” adds Motwani. Other channels like Star Plus have also done one-hour specials since 2008. One of their earlier draws was the special episodes of Bidaai in October and then November, both of which had generated rating beyond 6 points each. One featured Hema Malini and the other was about a lead pair meeting for the first time. However, special episodes have been taking the audience for a ride too. For instance, the one-hour special on Pavitra Rishta on Zee TV, in which Manav was expected to confront Archana and tell her who was behind all the wrong-doings, didn’t deliver. It showed that the two were about to meet. The rest happened in the following episode on Monday. Another special episode that didn’t live up to the hype was Laado on Colors in which the DM calls for a panchayat against Ammaji. One thought it might have a big twist, which it didn’t. When asked Tiwari and Motwani of Colors and Zee respectively, Tiwari puts it as a way to draw the audience to the next episode. “We end our special episodes at a point where the audience is left asking for more. So they tune in to the next episode automatically and the show gets impressive ratings,” explains Tiwari. Don’t give away too much Motwani says that his channel has never promised and not delivered. He instead believes that the high point may not have been worth the one-hour special space. “Sometimes, the twists are not worth putting into one-hour specials. That’s when they dampen the spirit of the viewer. Otherwise, it’s through these one-hour specials that an audience samples the show and watches it henceforth regularly. The recent Jhansi Ki Rani episode delivered what it had promised,” he defends. A screenplay and scriptwriter who works on daily soaps, hiding his identity, says that most of these one hour specials involve work which equals the work required on seven 30 minute episodes. “Despite this, we’re told that we don’t have to give away too much of the story in the special. So, it’s taxing on the actors, the producer and even the writers. It’s difficult sometimes to keep the story held back,” he informs. Nothing seems to deter the producers or the channels from going ahead with more one-hour specials. So, expect specials on Yeh Pyaar Na Hoga Kam, Yahan Main Ghar Ghar Kheli, Laado, Lagi Tujhse Lagan, Jhansi Ki Rani and others in the next few weeks, but maybe you shouldn’t expect too much from them, right? Dharmendra was keen to play the role of Thakur in Sholay
Published: Friday, February 12, 2010 12:51 [IST Initially, Dharmendra was keen to play the role of Thakur in Sholay. He eventually relented when the director informed him that Sanjeev Kumar would play Veeru if that happened, and he would ultimately get the heroine. Sanjeev Kumar had just then proposed marriage to Hema Malini. And Dharmendra was in love with her. So, he changed his mind and quickly went back to the role of Veeru. Unfortunately for them, Sholay was an expensive film that was declared a flop initially when it was released. Later, it turned out to be successful. Reference Source - IndiaInfo |

These paintings have been to space and back
Namita Handa / DNA Thursday, February 11, 2010 0:26 IST Mumbai: While you’ve seen your favourite Bollywood stars in their myriad avatars on and off screen, we’ll bet you’ve never seen them painted by the first artist whose works have been sent to space. Austrian artist Helmut Zwerger will be exhibiting these paintings for the first time, in Mumbai. Since the artwork touched Earth after its 200-day sojourn in outer space in 2004, no one has set eyes on the paintings. Zwerger insisted on Mumbai, because, he says, he loves the city. “Mumbai is magical. The city is very sympathetic; people are friendlier than anywhere else in the world. I love the chaotic life here,” Zwerger says. Having visited Mumbai thrice, he has made Bandra his home, now. Born in 1943, Zwerger was a successful dentist until the age of 50 when fate intervened. Helmut suddenly became obsessed with painting and has been a successful artist ever since. His brush with outer space came after Alexander Kaleri, a Russian cosmonaut, told him he wanted to become a space gallerist. So, that’s how portraits of Yuri Gagarin, the first man in space, tenor Luciano Pavarotti as well as US-Senator and astronaut John Glenn hung out in space for 200 days. The carrier rocket took off on October 28, 2003 and came back to Earth on May 2004. Today, Zwerger’s collection includes Amitabh Bachchan; southern superstar Rajnikanth; Bollywood Badshah Shahrukh Khan; dream girl, Hema Malini; Kareena Kapoor; India cricket Mahinder Singh Dhoni and many more. Salman, however, is his favourite. “Salman Khan has a naughty boy image but his face is innocent and sympathetic. And, while Hema Malini was difficult to paint, Aamir Khan was the easiest. I also enjoyed working on Shammi Kapoor’s portrait,” Zwerger says. Zwerger’s exhibition Myriad Moods at Hirji Jehangir Art Gallery is on until February 15. Reference Source - DNA India |

Hema: No size zero for Esha
TNN, Feb 17, 2010, 12.00am IST The original dream girl of Bollywood Hema Malini is quite averse to the size-zero trend. The actress, who is re-launching Esha Deol in her home production, says, “Your body structure is God given.” She also feels that an actress’s figure should be good. “If you are going to be in the public eye, you got to look fit and maintain yourself. But you shouldn’t be very thin or very fat.” When asked about Esha the caring mother quips proudly, “I tell her don’t be very thin. She doesn’t need it. She has an athletic body like her dad, Dharmendra. She was very good in sports all through her schooling years.” Reference Source - Times of India |

Hema Malini travels cattle class
By: Entertainment Team Date: 2010-02-20 Place: Mumbai No business class section in her Goa-Patna flight Yesteryear actress Hema Malini willingly flew from Goa to Patna in economy class when she learnt that the airline did not have a business class section on that route. Hema, who is currently working on her second directorial venture, found herself being stared at by her 300-odd co-passengers all through the flight. However, Hema insists she has never thought of herself as anyone special. Hema was in Goa to shoot the carnival for her film Tell Me Oh Khuda. From there, she had to rush back to Patna for a dance performance she had agreed to do a long time back. The Goa schedule was actually supposed to take place at a later date, but it had to be rescheduled due to the carnival. The crew will then come back to Goa to shoot other scenes at a later date Reference Source |

I don't know why co-passengers stared at me: Hema
22 Feb, 2010 10:31 am IST lIANS Actress-politician Hema Malini had to travel from Goa to Patna for a dance recital and says she hadn't bargained for being put in economy class in the flight and 300 pairs of eyes gazing at her. "There was no business class in the flight to Patna. I had to sit in economy. I didn't mind at all. But the people around me seemed to be very distracted. I was concerned for them," Hema, who went to Patna Saturday, told IANS. "I don't know why they needed to stare. You say because I'm beautiful? No. I never believed I was. My mother always taught me to stay grounded. I never started believing I was someone special," she added. It's been a hectic time for Hema - she is producing "Tell Me Oh Khuda" for daughter Esha under impossible weather conditions and back-breaking schedules in different parts of the world. Last week she had to rush with her cast and crew to Goa to shoot the carnival there. "The Goa was not supposed to happen now. It came later. But we needed to shoot the carnival which was held from February 13-16. So we preponed the schedule that was to happen later in the year and rushed to Goa last week. Now we'll have to go back to Goa later," she said. Reference Source - India Times |

No tomboy look for Esha
The Hindu, Mumbai Express February 25, 2010 Hema Malini has pulled all the plugs to make Tell Me Oh Khuda a perfect re-launch for daughter Esha Deol. Since clothes and the look are paramount today, the shrewd producer has hired Rocky S, one of the most sought after fashion designers. Rocky, who is working with Esha after a gap of two years, says, “We want to keep it simple, young and casual. So I didn't want to go with the ‘very fitted' look. I gave her a lot of soft cotton dresses and soft curls. Her look is very feminine. I didn't want her to look like a tomboy. I gave her five-inch heels to wear throughout the film. Wearing big heels is the only thing she cribbed about.” Though he feels earthy tones, white and red look best on Esha, Rocky has experimented with colours such as burgundy, military green, grey and black. Rocky has factored in the fact that the film will be shot in Turkey, Rajasthan, Goa and Mumbai. He says, “I gave her coats and mufflers in Turkey because it can get very cold, while in Goa she will be sporting lighter clothes.” Now for the million dollar question — Will she be wearing a bikini? “Sadly no. We didn't want to do the cliché of Esha coming out of the water in a bikini,” says Rocky. “There are scenes where she is coming out of the beach but it's going to be in an entirely different attire.” Uvika's challenge Uvika Chowdhary The Toh Baat Pakki team, Tabu, Sharman Joshi, Vatsal Sheth and Uvika Chowdhary, spent a lot of time shooting in Ooty. Uvika has many stories to tell about their stay, but is partial to one horror story. She says, “Once we were having dinner at around 2 in the night and we started playing truth and dare. It was my turn to dare Sharman and Vatsal to do something. So I dared them to walk till the end of a graveyard close to the location. They happily agreed and took a stroll.” But they thought I had acted too smart for my boots and wanted to get even. The next night, around the same time, they both covered themselves in white cloth, and came banging on my hotel room. I sleepily drawled, ‘Kaun hai bhai raat ke do baje'. I thought it was a unit member with a message. When I saw through the eyehole, I could see two all-white bodies. I couldn't believe my eyes nor could I scream; my voice just choked. The next morning, we had to report as early as 7 a.m. and I reached the set with puffy eyes, I hadn't been able to sleep a wink all night. When I was applying make-up, Sharman and Vatsal asked me why I was looking so pale. I nervously began telling my story … only when I saw them holding their sides and doubling up with laughter, did I realise they had conned me.” A milestone Abhishek Bachchan has completed 10 years in the industry (his debut film, Refugee, was released in 2000). But he claims to be unaware of this landmark till we jogged his memory. A trifle surprised, he says, “Have I (completed 10 years)? Time flies. I look back at this phase with a lot of fondness. It has been a great 10 years. I have learnt a lot. But I see a lot of scope for improvement, there is a very long road ahead.” For the record, excluding a dozen special appearances, Abhishek has already done 32 films. The ace up Shraddha's sleeve Shraddha Kapoor, who looks like her mother Shivangi in her heyday, is the daughter of funny (and at times wily) actor, Shakti Kapoor. She is also one of the few actors who will be working with her father in her debut film. The film, Teen Patti, stars Amitabh and Ben Kingsley but also has Shakti Kapoor in a small role. Shraddha says, “I'm very grateful that my dad is doing the film even if it is a very small role. It is his way of giving me his blessings.” bollywood news service Refernce Source - The Hindu, February 25, 2010 |

Hema Malini Dindoshi pad robbed of Rs 84 lakhs, Oh Mere Khuda!!
[02 Mar 2010] Hema Malini, the gorgeous dream girl of yesteryears who is wife of original macho man of bollywood Dharmendra and mother of actress Esha Deol, had a shock of her life when she found out that Rs 84 lakhs worth of money and jewellery was missing from her Dindoshi bungalow located in Goregaon, Mumbai. The renowned dancer had just returned after a performance in Nagpur when she was informed of the happening by her cousin who looks after the 2500 sq sprawling pad. The dream girl immediately rushed to police station and lodged a complaint with police, who are said to be on the right track of investigation. Sources say that police is investigating the case on the lines of it being an insider job and have already send a team to the native place of one of the security guards posted at Hema Malini’s house. As the culprits had entered the house from the back side by breaking an iron grill, the police are suspecting it to be the handiwork of someone familiar with the outlay of the house. Sources say that the theft might adversely affect the plans of Hema Malini regarding her upcoming flick ‘Oh mere Khuda’. Hema Malini wants to launch her daughter Esha Deol through this film as she feels that Esha did not get her due from the industry regarding meaty roles to showcase her acting prowess. By all accounts, Hema Malini’s new venture will be a remake of some Hollywood flick to be directed by a competent director. The search is already on and Hema Malini does not want any compromises on that front. Even Dharmendra may be roped in to play an important role in the film. However, Hema Malini has been keeping mum on her role in the film. She only says that nothing is final but if required she would not hesitate in playing an important role in the film for her daughter’s bollywood career Reference Source |

Two police teams look for suspects in theft at Hema Malini's house
PTIWednesday, March 3, 2010 19:52 IST Email Mumbai: Two special teams, probing the Rs80-lakh burglary at Bollywood actor Hema Malini's bungalow here, have been dispatched to Uttar Pradesh and Indo-Nepal border to trace the suspects, police said today. "One team has gone to Uttar Pradesh and the other to Nepal border based on the clues we have got (in the case). The suspects might have fled to these places," additional police ommissioner Ramrao Pawar said. Pawar, however, declined to specify the exact location on the Indo-Nepal border where the police team has been sent. On Saturday night, thieves broke into the actor's bungalow Gokuldham in suburban Goregaon and decamped with Rs75 lakh in cash and ornaments worth Rs 5 lakh, police said. The 61-year-old actor-turned-politician had gone to Nagpur and found cash and valuables stolen from her cupboard when she returned home, they said. Over 60 persons, including two security men who were on duty at the bungalow at the time of the burglary, domestic helps, milkman, newspaper vendors, neighbours and their watchmen have been questioned so far, police said. Hema Malini blames staff for burglary
Thursday, March 4 2010, 5:49am EST By Will Astbury Hema Malini has blamed her staff for the theft of eight million Rupees worth of goods from her Goregaon bungalow. The actress, who was told by police that one of her staff members had stolen her possessions, revealed that she was disappointed with her security guard, who was asleep at the time of the break-in. "It's very worrisome. But we can't seem to find the staff we can trust," Real Bollywood quotes her as saying. "The security guard at our Goregaon residence was caught sleeping when the burglary happened. At the same time we’ve to depend on security and domestic staff. But how do we make sure they’re to be trusted?" Malini claimed that returning home after a show to find her house in disarray was very hard. "When I reached my Goregaon residence the whole place was ransacked. Locks in the rooms and cupboards including mine had been broken," she said. Police have now recovered the majority of Malini's possessions. Reference Source - Digital Spy |
