Aishwarya Rai was born November 1, 1973, also known as Ash, is an Indian actress and former fashion model. She was awarded the Miss World title in 1994. Aishwarya Rai has acted in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Bengali and English films.
Aishwarya Rai was born in Mangalore, in the South Indian state of Karnataka, to Krishnaraj Rai, a marine engineer, and Vrinda Rai, a writer. She studied in Hyderabad until 7th grade. Her family later relocated to Mumbai. Rai has one brother, Aditya Rai, who is three years older than she is. Aditya is in the merchant navy, and has also co-produced a film with Rai in the lead.

Her native languages are Tulu and Kannada ; she also speaks Hindi, Marathi, English and broken Tamil as well.

Attended the Arya Vidya Mandir at Santacruz, Mumbai, then entered Ruparel College, Matunga, Mumbai. She was an A student and was on track to become an architect.

Rai began modeling on the side while studying architecture. She was a contestant in the Miss India 1994 pageant, which she lost to Sushmita Sen but later went on to win the Miss World title that same year.

Mumbai: Beauty queen, Aishwarya Rai, turned 33 on Wednesday and for a change, she was in Mumbai on her birthday to celebrate, unlike the past few years.

Ash celebrated her birthday by spending time with her family and after a visit to a temple, with a special midnight screening of her latest film, Umrao Jaan.

"Aishwarya ushered in her birthday at midnight with a screening of Umrao Jaan organised by the film's director J.P. Dutta and was thrilled to watch the results of six months of hard work," Ash's business manager Hari Singh said.

On Wednesday morning, Ash and her family visited Siddhivinayak temple, then spent the day attending to phone calls, SMS and e-mail messages from her friends, relatives and hordes of fans, Singh reported.

"Since she has not been in the city on her birthday for the past few years, she is making the most of it and spending time with her family," he added.

Asked about their most desired dream date, men chose Ash ahead of Rani Mukherjee and Preity Zinta .

Things are hotting up even more with Bollywood glam couple, Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai. So far only Aishwarya has been seen moving around with the Bachchans, accompanying them to album releases and parties while Ash's family has been nowhere in the frame. Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai's families are slowly moving towards acceptance of the relationship. But now it seems that even her family has accepted Abhishek. When Aishwarya went to Paris for an assignment, Abhishek accompanied her and her mother, Vrinda Rai, there. Ash was clad in a simple, black suit while Abhishek sported a long overcoat. The three of them spent some time in the lounge at the airport.
“Ash came with Abhishek, and as soon as they entered the airport, they caught everyone's attention,” says an eyewitness.

“They tried to walk very fast and reach the check-in counter without being stopped by fans. But their fans didn’t let go of this opportunity. They made full use of cell phones with cameras and clicked away.”

Aishwarya’s business manager confirmed that, “Yes, Aishwarya left to shoot a commercial in Paris. She went with her mother. I have no idea about Abhishek as I was unwell and I didn’t accompany her to the airport this time.”
