After a critically acclaimed movie Dor, what made you sign Salaam-e-Ishq, which is out-and-out a commercial saga?

I like to do all sorts of movies. It is important to be balanced as an actor. You can't be doing just one sort of movie. So I was very lucky to get Dor, because I needed a role that showed people I can play different kinds of characters as well and not just the young, bubbly (as people call me) and glamorous roles. That's fun as well but it's nice to maintain a balance. Besides who wouldn't want to be a part of Salaam-e-Ishq? I needed a role that showed people I can play different kinds of characters as well.

According to Ayesha, she has been a photographic model since she was four years old. She appeared in a music video, Falguni Pathak's Meri Chunar Udd Udd Jaye, when she was only fifteen. One video in which she appeared, Shake It Daddy, brought her to the attention of the movie industry, and a few film offers followed. [2]

She signed a contract for Socha Na Tha, then for Taarzan: The Wonder Car. However, delays in making Socha Na Tha meant that Taarzan released first and was therefore her "debut" film. She won the Filmfare Best Debut Award in 2004 for her performance in Taarzan.

She has appeared in a number of films that have done poorly at the box office. However, she has been highly praised for her work in the 2006 Dor, an art film.

Ayesha sports wacky, funky look

New Delhi News.Net
Saturday 10th February, 2007 (IANS)

Talented actress Ayesha Takia is all excited about sporting a funky look in her upcoming film 'Fool N Final'.

Ayesha was apparently stumped when director Ahmed Khan messed up with her hair in an attempt to give her an unkempt look in the film, reports Bollywood Trade.

' 'Fool N Final' is a romantic action comedy. It's an out-and-out entertainer. I have a loud, funky look in the film. My hair was messed up so that it could gel with my character,' says Ayesha.

'The look is very wacky so as to enliven my character in the film. It's a fun film with some great songs and lots of hip hop,' remarks the chirpy actress.

Ayesha shares screen space with one of her oldest co-stars Shahid Kapoor. The two play thieves who are always on the run in the film.

'This is my second film with Shahid. He is a good hardworking actor and we got along well,' she quips.

'Fool N Final', produced by Firoz Nadiadwala, has an ensemble cast starring Sunny Deol, Sunil Shetty, Shahid Kapoor, Jackie Shroff, Paresh Rawal, Rajpal Yadav, Vivek Oberoi, Bipasha Basu, Arbaaz Khan, Sameera Reddy and Ayesha Takia.

"The day I personally experience the casting couch, I will quit films. Till now, I have not come across any director or producer or anyone from the industry that has imposed any condition on me as work-for-sex. No one has spoken to me ever in any kind of give-and-take terms. Actresses without any Godfather are prone to all these things but fortunately I have only heard these talks. In reality, no one has ever tried any such thing on me," says Ayesha.

Ayesha Takia open about relationship:

Ayesha Takia has never shied away from acknowledging her relationship with her boyfriend.

While many stars in the film industry choose to keep tight-lipped about their romantic lives, cute babe Ayesha Takia has no qualms in admitting that she is in love with her boyfriend Farhan Azmi, son of a coal trader in Mumbai.

Ayesha and Farhan have been seeing each other for pretty long now and the actress has already made it clear that marriage with Farhan is a possibility for her.

In fact, Ayesha has said it is out of respect for her family and her relationship with Farhan that she has particularly avoided roles that require exposure.

However, Ayesha always speaks with discretion and caution about her relationship with Farhan.

“I have been open about my relationship with Farhan. But I reveal what I think is important. I won’t go out of my way and speak about it,” a latest report quotes Ayesha as saying.

Ayesha has also said previously that she may not act in films after her marriage.

The comely belle will be seen playing an important role in this Friday’s release Yun Hota To Kya Hota.

"Working with a versatile and accomplished director like Naseruddin Shah is a privilege that is available to only a few actors. I consider myself lucky to be one of them," says actress Ayesha Takia, who's playing a consequential role in the veteran actor's directorial debut, YUN HOTA TOH KYA HOTA.

The film figures in the impressive line up of films that are scheduled for release. In the film, Ayesha plays the role of Khushboo, a college girl who goes to the rescue of her friend, when she is struck by tragedy. According to Ayesha, "It revolves around subject on terrorism and how terrorism can have a deep impact on the lives of common people," she reveals.

According to her, working with someone like Naseer entails going through a new high in acting. "That's because he's a perfectionist to the core and sets new standards of acting. Besides he's a hard taskmaster who ensures that things work out exactly according to expectations," she says.

Currently Ayesha has some very promising films lined up for release, starting with YUH HOTA TOH KYA HOTA, followed by Nagesh Kukonoor's DORR and Nikhil Advani's film in which she has been paired once again opposite Akshaye Khanna and Ahmed Khan's film. What she is very happy about is the fact that she's able to choose from projects that are working for her career. "I am glad that I can live life on my own terms at the end of the day," she says.

Her last release, SHAADI SE PEHLE, did not quite make news at the box-office but Ayesha has no regrets about it. "It is probably for the first time in my career that I got to hear that my film is an average hit,' she smiles.

So where does she intend going from here? "I leave that to destiny. Right now, I am happy that I have got my hands full with some of the best projects. I am not in the numbers game and am in no mad hurry to scale the top. I am quite satisfied with the way my career is going," she says.

An Interview with Ayesha Takia:

Her CV doesn’t scream Bhansali, Johar or Chopra yet Bollywood likes Ayesha Takia, thankfully so. On a sunny noon, we caught this fringe face horsing around on the sets of Sujoy Ghosh’s Home Delivery and pinned the ‘all-smiles’ star for a chat on the kind of guys she likes. We enter into boyzone and ditto her performances, Ayesha doesn’t disappoint

The one thing that you look for in a guy…

“Ah, this one’s easy” she chuckles. “The one thing I look for in a man is respect. Without respect, there is just no love!” Ayesha declares. “I have to be able to respect the man for whatever reason it be, either because of the way he is or what he has achieved, without that, there is no step for the relationship forward” she says with an air of finality to her thought.

An ideal man would be…

I think what every woman looks for in a man is the feeling of being happy. If a guy can make the woman feel happy, positive and better, then I think that is the right guy. Each one of us looks for positivity in our companion. If the man can make you feel complete, then he is the kind of guy I think every woman should have!

Do looks matter?

“Yes…for exactly 5 minutes and then its over. Looks fade in a matter of few seconds. I could care less even if it were Tom Cruise and he gave me attitude, I don’t want to talk to him then! I think a person who is genuine and honest is far more attractive to me. And I say this in all honesty, attraction can survive on looks, not relationships!

Do you believe, ‘There is a successful woman behind every successful man!’

“I think there are lot many people behind many successful people. And unlike what some like to believe, each of us need the support, strength, steel and faith of others and men & women are no different. You require that one person who believes in you more than you do! I think it’s that faith which makes a successful you and me.

Who’s the love of your life?

I dislike talking about my personal life for the simple reason that, it’s then the date diary of Ayesha Takia that will matter from then on. I want people to talk about my films not the number of times I hitched up with a guy. In this regard, I like to pick up a leaf from Ash’s book, every time the press has spiked her about her relationship; she has maintained a stiff upper lip. She likes to keep her personal life just that, personal. I am a lot like that!

Do you believe, ‘It’s a man’s world’

To a certain extent, it is, can’t shut your eye to that. But one has to accept that certain areas are going to be male-dominated. We working in the film industry feel the pinch even more but you got to take it with a pinch of salt. But things are changing for the better and I am sure we will see a lot more of the fairer sex in all fields. Also, as long as we are being given a fair deal, I don’t think it bothers me!

The one man you admire a lot…

Shahrukh Khan! It is rare that you see such charisma, intelligence and talent all bundled into a single person. It is an understatement to say that Shahrukh is charisma unlimited but the way he has handled his popularity is what amazes me! His performances, his conversations, his eyes, every single thing is a turn on! I admire him a lot, I really do.

What are your future projects?

Right now I am shooting for a film I'm really excited about, called No Smoking by Anurag Kashyap. That is a film I am doing with John Abraham. I have a double role in that film - I play his wife as well as secretary, Annie and Anjali. It is hilarious because the two characters are so different from each other so I get a chance to do stuff that is completely different in the same film. I am also doing two more films with Nagesh Kukunoor. Then I am doing a film with Tusshar Kapoor called Kya Love Story Hai. It is a love story again. Love, as I said, is something that I love. Then I am doing another story with Ritesh Deshmukh and Rimi Sen which is just a comedy story about friends. It is called De Taali. I have to do stuff that makes me happy otherwise I can't do good work. Post Dor, I have been getting films that are much more performance-oriented, and different from the films that I was offered earlier. So I am doing a lot of different films in the future.

Performing deadly stunts has become the latest trend in Bollywood these days. We have heard of Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai performing some great stunts in the forthcoming film Dhoom 2. And now we hear the
