Neha Dhupia is one model-turned-actress who has had a surprisingly consistent streak of hits. Last year, it was Kya Kool Hai Hum and Garam Masala, albeit they were films in which she didn't have a significant role.

As she prepares for two of her films -- Fight Club and Teesri Aankh -- to hit the marquee this Friday, Neha talks to Raja Sen about her roles, commercial cinema versus serious cinema, and more: Excerpts:

"In Fight Club, I'm just doing a guest appearance opposite Sohail (Khan). My name in the film is Komal, and it's a very sweet role. The film is totally action, and then you get a breather. The little scenes between Sohail and me are like a breath of fresh air between all that blood and gore -- which is very exciting too, for a lot of people.

The second film is called Teesri Aankh, and it's about a very current issue, that of spy cameras. About how one is victimised. I play Sunny Deol's love interest in that film.

Having anything to do with a hit film is great. Even if you're a third assistant to the director or second to the editor, if the film does well, every technician, every actor benefits from it.

The fact is that because of Garam Masala, I got an opportunity to work with Mr Priyadarshan again, and I'm in a new film he's directed that's coming up in the summer.

It's flattering enough that he's reconsidered me, and the fact that my producer, Mr Ratan Jain, has been reconsidering me for a couple of projects. And it's important to have the tag of 'another hit film.'

I've had a couple -- I've had Kya Kool Hai Hum, Qayamat, Julie and Garam Masala -- so at least, on some level, you don't feel demoralised. Whatever you do, people do come and watch it. Otherwise, why would I want to dance with Akshay (Kumar) and John (Abraham) for a brief number and do a couple of scenes and move out of the film?

My intention is that whatever little bit I'm doing should be seen, appreciated. And if (it's) not appreciated, I should know what went wrong, so I can correct it next time.

Neha Dhupia steps into Urmila’s shoes

Neha DhupiaOne person’s loss is another’s gain,” says Neha Dhupia, who has stepped into Urmila Matondkar’s role in Apurva Lakhia’s Shootout At Lokhandwala. Lakhia and producer Sanjay Gupta finalised her for the part of Sanjay Dutt’s wife recently. “The film is exciting for me on many levels. I’ve never done a real-life drama before,” says Neha.

The film starts shooting in August. “Sanjay Gupta has also signed me for another film which will be part of his Dus Kahaniyan. I’ll be starring in a film called Highway which Hansal Mehta will direct. The story is written by Vishal Bhardwaj.”

Neha sees this as one of the most exciting phases in her career. “There was a time after the release of Sheesha when I was doing some serious rethinking about my priorities in life,” she says. “I was quite cheesed off by that phase in my career. Chup Chup Ke seems to have triggered off a new phase in my life. I think Apurva and Sanjay saw me in Chup Chup Ke and selected me for Shootout At Lokhandwala.”

Neha has no fear about being lost in a multistarrer. “Not really. See, I saw another real-life drama, Steven Spielberg’s Munich. In that the hero’s pregnant wife had just five to six scenes. But look at the impact she left! I want to make a similar impact with my wife’s role in
Shootout At Lokhandwala.”

The sensuous Payal Rohatgi is learning the traditional Indian dance form of Kathak nowadays

Everyday since last six months, Payal has been waking up early in the morning for her Kathak classes. She is learning the dance under the instruction of guru Pandit Viru Krishna.
Payal says she got the idea to learn Kathak while she was shooting for the song ‘O Sikander' for Madhur Bhandarkar 's movie Corporate in which she plays a marginal role of an actress.

“When I did the song for ‘Corporate', I realised how flexible one had to be. I want to look and work the best in whatever I do, so decided to take up kathak classes,” Payal is quoted as saying.

Payal says although it is difficult getting early everyday and going for Kathak classes, but she has plans to continue her classes till she does not find any interesting roles in hindi cinema. she says its better to work on myself rather than doing work that I am not happy with.

Payal has it clear she wants to do roles more substantial than the ones that require her to merely flaunt her anatomical assets. she says that when you do glamorous role also but in a A grade setup the director knows how to portray you and you can trust him as he has his name too to risk.. you learn from your past and that's my frame of mind now..
