ASJ bhai, I would like to dedicate this for 9/11. The lyrics are traditional and there are quite a few variations so the words may not match 100%. Perhaps you can post the music for it.

Pitu Maatu Sahaayak Svaaamii Sakhaa

Singer Mukesh

Comments: Available on HMV CS "Ram karen so hoye" - Mukesh Bhajans

Pitu maatu sahaayak svaamii sakhaa
tum hii ek naath hamaare ho
jin ke kachhu ur aadhaar nahii.n
Tin ke tum hii rakhavaare ho
pitu maatu sahaayak svaamii sakhaa ...

You are our Father, Mother, Helper, Lord and Friend, our one Master.
You are the guardian of the destitute.

Sab bhaa.Nti sadaa sukh dayak ho, duHkh du.rdam naashan haare ho
Pratipaal karo sagare jag ko, atishay karuNaa guN dhaare ho
pitu maatu sahaayak svaamii sakhaa ...

In several ways You are always the giver of happiness and the destroyer of pain and evil propensities. Protect this entire world, Lord, through the endless compassion You have in Your heart.

Shubh shaa.Nti niketan prem nidhi, man ma.ndir ke ujiyaare ho
is jiivan ke tum jiivan ho, in praaNan ke tum pyaare ho
tum so prabhu paaya prataap Hari, kahiye ke ab aur sahaare ho
pitu maatu sahaayak svaamii sakhaa ....

Yours is the mansion of auspiciousness and peace, the Storehouse of love, and the light that continuously glows in the temple of my mind. You are the Cause of my Life, and the Energy activating my vital forces. Lord, from You we obtain a sense of courage. In Your presence, what further help do we need?

I even know the meaning of the song! clever Big Grin Its saying the world is like a river. Happiness on one side and sorrow on the other. Nobody knows which bank you will end upSmile

will chk it out..
thnx
ok Riya..no luck in fininf song link..here r thelyrics..
pls ask asj or freaky to find songlink..then we'll ask Saeed to translate the entire song for u..

Hindi Song Title: Sansaar Hai Ik Nadiya
Hindi Movie/Album Name: RAFTAAR
Mukesh and Asha

++
sansaar hai ik nadiyaa, duhkh-sukh do kinaare hain
na jaane kahaan jaayen, ham bahate dhaare hain

This world is a river, the two banks representing sorrows and joys. None of us knows our destination but we are moving along with the tide.

chalate hue jeevan kee, raftaar mein ik lay hai
ik raag mein ik sur mein, sansaar ki har shay hai
sansaar ki har shay hai ...
ik taaL pe gardish mein, ye chaand sitaare hain

Life goes on in some well planned rhythmic way in tune with the beat of the world. This very taal is manifested in the moon and stars.

dharati pe ambar ki aankhon se barasati hai
ik roz yahi boonden, phir baadal banati hain -2
is banane bigadane ke dastoor mein saare hain

The cycle goes on and on. Water evaporates from the earth to the skies and it falls again as rain. This is the principle on which the world operates.

koi bhi kisi ke lie, apanaa naa paraaya hai
risshte ke ujaale men, har aadami saaya hai -2
kudarata ke bhi dekho to, ye khel puraane hain

No one cares for anyone else. We are all strangers to each other. In the light of relations each man is just a shadow. Isn't this a strange phenomenon of nature.

hai kaun vo duniya men, na paap kiya jisane
bin ulajhe kaanton se, hain phool chune kisane
hain phool chune kisane ...
be-daag nahi koee, yahaan paapi saare hain

Who in this world has not commited a sin? If we fear hurt by the thorns we will never pluck the rose. Every one of us has left some sinful stain behind.

I sang this at my Hindi school anniversary. It was a hit. This translation was given to me so I am just sharing it. Enjoy.

Valima is a huge reception given by the bridegroom, usually on the third day after the wedding.

Its become the norm for such receptions to kick off around 10pm with dinner being served after midnight - at 12.30 in the reception tonight. In between they have to photograph close families with the newlyweds and save them on video too. You give the gifts oer money, you dine, bid goodbye and resolve next time to stay away.

The traditional fare is biryani, qorma, nan, some barbquea perhaps, a sweet dish and qulfi or ice cream and green tea.

We normally eat at home before the reception and pretend to eat at the reception but today we were told to expect early dinner so we learnt a lesson lol.

Its late - almost 2am and its a working day tomorrow. so good night Smile

Mukesh Chand Mathur (1923-1976)

Of all the singers in the history of playback singing, Mukesh ranks as my favourite along with Rafi. His was a voice that imbibed in on one hand a deeply intense melancholiness and on the other hand, a profoundly innocent and mellifluous sweetness. It was an exquisite blend of torment and anguish, tenderness and joy.

Mukesh Chand Mathur was born on the 22nd of July, 1923 in a small middle class family in Delhi. Interested in acting and singing from his childhood, he was a great fan and admirer of K.L. Saigal. His first break in films came in 1945 under the baton of Anil Biswas in the film "Pehla Nazar". The raag was Darbari and the song was "Dil jalta hai to jalne de". A legend was born, and in the coming decades, the golden voice of this young 22 year lad was to be heard across the entire nation and spread far beyond its boundaries.

Mukesh was a favourite of all music directors. He sang for almost all the great and not-so-great music directors of the yesteryears and produced masterpieces for them. But it was his partnership with the duo of Shankar-Jaikishen that produced the maximum number of hits. The inimitable team of Mukesh-Raj Kapoor-SJ-Shailendra-Hasrat Jaipuri were responsible for producing one memorable hit after another for almost two and a half decades starting from "Barsaat" in 1949. It is said the Mukesh-Raj Kapoor was an "alliance made in heaven". The Mukesh-RK combination gave new dimensions to popular Hindi music. It flourished during a period which is often called the "Golden Age" of Hindi film music and the standards were raised to dizzying heights which were seldom touched before or thereafter. The partnership started with "Aag" where Raj's feelings of despondency and despair were vividly caught by Mukesh in Ram Ganguly's composition "Zinda hoon is tarah", and ended with R.D. Burman's "Ek din bik jayega" in the film "Dharam Karam". In its course was an endless list of hits figuring among them being the evergreen songs of "Awaara" and "Shri 420", arguably the two films that brought the greatest international fame and glory to Indian music. From foot-tappers like "Mera joota hai Japani" to satires like "Kisi ki muskurahaton pe ho nissar", from melancholy strains of "Jaane Kahan gaye woh din" to songs depicting the truth of life like "Woh Subah kabhi to aayegi", the emotions conveyed by the depth and intonation of the voice of this master-singer was unparalleled.

Another music director who utilized Mukesh to the fullest was the great Salil Chowdhury. I would like to take this opprtuinity to quote Salil on his opinion about Mukesh - "Each word from his lips was a pearl. No one could sing the way Mukesh did with the right diction, inflexion and intonation. His vocal timbre was out of this world." And it was this mutual admiration for each other's music that led to evergreen hits like "Suhana Safar (Madhumati)", "Nain Hamare (Annadata)", "Kahin door jab din dhal jaaye (Anand)", "Kai baar yun bhi dekha hai (Rajnigandha)" and of course the unforgettable "Zindagi Khwab hai (Jaagte Raho)".

S.D. Burman was a true professional who would not typically use a singer, however talented he may be, if his voice did not match the situation in the movie. And Dada Burman would often turn only to Mukesh whenever he needed a song to be played in the background. Two such examples are "Chal ri sajni" and "O Jaanewale ho sake to laut ke aana".

Mukesh also teamed up with Khayyam in "Phir Subah Hogi". Sahir Ludhianvi's lucid poetry combined with Khayyam's scores to produce superb musical masterpieces. It fills one's heart with hope, aspiration and longing as he listens to a soulful Mukesh in "Woh subah kabhi to aayegi" or "Chinoo-Arab hamara". Years later in 1976, few months before the death of the singer, Khayyam brought back the golden voice in "Kabhie Kabhie" to produce the unforgettable "Kabhi Kabhi mere dil mein khayal aata hain" and "Main pal do pal ka shair hoon".

Though acclaimed as the "tragedy king", Mukesh's hallmark, in my honest opinion and contrary to popular belief, was not the "dard" but the simplicity and innocence of his voice. He was not proficient in classical numbers, but it was the innocence of his voice that made simple compositions like "Suhana Safar" stand out from the other and somewhat more glamorous compositions like "Tute hue khwabon ne", "Aaja re Pardesi" or "Chhad gayo papi bichua" from the same film. It was this simplicity that fills one's eyes with tears as he listens to "Sajanwa behri ho gaye hamar" or "Jaaoon kahan bata ei dil". O.P. Nayaar, it is said, did not think very highly about him. But even he was stunned by the popularity of his apparently simple composition of "Chal akela chal akela". Unparalleled in tragic numbers, Mukesh was equally good in fun songs like "Awaara Hoon", "Mera joota hai Japani", "Dum dum diga diga" or "Kehta hai Joker".

From Raj Kapoor to Amitabh Bachchan, from "Aag" to "Kabhi Kabhi", Mukesh came full circle. Yet Mukesh himself was never in search of a hero. He was an amazingly humble person, who would sing for any music director or any hero. He had the gift of transforming simple compositions into all-time greats as is seen in Sardar Malik's "Saaranga teri yaad mein".

In 1974, he received the National Award for the "Kahin baar yun bhi dekha hai" from Rajnigandha. His last song was "Chanchal Sheetal Nirmal Komal" from "Satyam Shivam Sundaram" in June 1976. Immediately after on 27th August, 1976, the great singer breathed his last of a sudden heart attack in Detroit, while on a tour of the U.S.

Today, 22 years after his death, Mukesh continues to enthrall the hearts of millions of his fans through his songs. The feelings of his fans are perhaps best reflected in his own voice

Chahe kahin bhi tum raho
Chaenge tum ko umr bhar
Tum ko na bhool payenge

lynn, your article above reminded me of this song:

Ek Din Bik Jayega - Dharam Karam

Ek Din Bik Jayega, Maati Ke Mol
Jag Mein Reh Jayenge Pyare Tere Bol
Dooje Ke Hothon Ko Dekar Apne Geet
Koi Nishani Chhod, Phir Duniya Se Dol
Ek Din...

Anhoni Path Mein Kaante Lakh Bichaaye
Honi To Phir Bhi Bichhda Yaar Milaye
Yeh Birha, Yeh Doori
Do Pal Ki Majboori
Phir Koi Dilwala Kahe Ko Ghabraye
Taram Pam...
Dhara Jo Behti Hai Milke Rehti Hai
Behti Chara Ban Ja Phir Duniya Se Dol
Ek Din...

Parde Ke Peechhe Baithi Saanval Gori
Thaam Ke Tere Mere Man Ki Dori
Yeh Dori Na Chhoote, Yeh Bandhan Na Toote
Bhor Hone Wali Hai Ab Raina Hai Thodi
Taram Pam...
Sar Ko Jhukaye Tu Baitha Kya Hai Yaar
Gori Se Naina Jod Phir Duniya Se Dol
Ek Din...

Nitin Mukesh on his father Mukesh:

I will never forget his hand in my life, that was placed on my back with full of love and warmth. Whenever, I remember of that moment my eyes fill with tears.

My father Mukesh by Nitin Mukesh

Accordingly, my father got his first break on his own. The year was 1951. Music director Anil Biswas offered him the chance to sing one song for the film Pehli Nazar. Dil jalta hai to jalne de was an overnight success. And the spotlight focused sharply on the 18-year-old debutant singer.

Though this song made him famous, my father continued to face many ups and downs in his career. Then, he met Raj Kapoor. The meeting happened quite by accident at Ranjit Studios. But I have always believed that a meeting between these two great people was ordained by the heavens.

Raj Uncle was a great admirer of my father's voice and wanted to sign him on as playback singer for his film. My father readily agreed. The first song my father sang for Raj Uncle was Zinda hoon main for the film, Aag.

Nitin Mukesh on his father...Mukesh:

It was not that my father got to sing more songs than his contemporaries. But, somehow, the song to which he lent his voice would turn out to be the most popular song in the film. Kati Patang, for example, has many good songs sung by good singers. But the most memorable song in the film is Mukesh's Jis gali mein tera ghar na ho balma.

Amongst his contemporaries, my father's favourite singer was Mohammed Rafi. He loved Rafisaab's voice, and believed that nobody could replace him.

.

My father belonged to an era that boasted of many talented singers. It was a time when you could not say one singer was better than the other. Just as each singer had his strengths, so also each singer had his weaknesses. My father was a very gifted singer, I believe this talent was God's gift to him. Besides, he was also blessed with good luck.

After Mukesh's death, his newer unreleased songs came out in 1977 with films like Dharam Veer, Amar Akbar Anthony, Khel Khilari Ka, Darinda, and Chandi Sona. LEGENDARY:MUKESH CHAND MATHUR

Probably his greatest ability was to sing his heart out and touch the heart of the listener through that. He had a voice that had inherent melancholy in that. So when he sang "Aansoo bharie hai yeh jeevan ki raahe", one could feel his heart bit
He reminded us of separation from a beloved in "Saranga teri yaad mein " and he told us of relationships in "Chalri sajni ab kaa soche ".... He taught us the meaning of life in "Ek pyaar ka naghma hai "

That is our Mukesh... a man, who is living in our hearts even 3 decades after his death

ik din bik jaayegaa, maati ke mol
jag mein rah jaayenge, pyaare tere bol
duuje ke honthon pe, lekar apne geet
koi nishaani chhod, phir duniyaa se gol..

'Chandan Sa Badan' from 'Saraswati Chandra'.

chandan saa badan, chanchal chitavan

Your body is as cast of sandalwood, you have a lively mind

dhiire se teraa yah musakaanaa

Your smile creeps across your visage so gently ...

mujhe dosh na denaa jag vaalo.n ho jaauu.N agar mai.n diivaanaa

Let the world find no fault with me, if I do fall in love with you.

yah kaam-kamaan bha.nve terii

Your brows finely pencilled, bent like a bow

palako.n ke kinaare kajaraare

Your eyes tinged with kohl

maathe pe si.nduurii suuraj

A flaming vermilion sun on your forehead

ho.nTho.n pe dahakate angaare

Simmering embers on your lips

saayaa bhii jo teraa pa.D jaaye

Even your mere passing shadow

aabaad ho dil ka viiraanaa

Causes the wildernesses in my heart to bloom again

tan bhii sundar man bhii sundar

Your mind is as beautiful as your body

tuu sundarataa kii muurat hai

You are the very incarnation of beauty

kisii aur ko shaayad kam hogii

Maybe someone else needs you as well,

mujhe terii bahut zaruurat hai

But I need you more than anyone else

pahale hii bahut mai.n tarasaa huu.N

I have already suffered a lot without you

ab aur na mujhako tarasaanaa

Pray make me suffer no more

Okay, since you say so..... Big Grin Here goes another of my favorite -

Humne Tujko Pyar from Dulha Dulhan.

I even got the lyrics clever Big Grin
Ham Ne Tujh Ko Pyaar Kiyaa Hai Jitanaa, Kaun Karegaa Itanaa
Kaun Karegaa Itanaa...

Aa.Nkh Churaaii Thes Lagaaii Dil Bhii Tuune To.Daa
Laakh Chhupaayaa Tuune Daaman Ham Ne Saath Na Chho.Daa
Tere Karam Ko Tere Sitam Ko Sahate Rahe.N Ham Jitanaa
Kaun Karegaa Itanaa...

Tuu Hii Tuu Hai In Aa.Nkho.N Me.N Aur Nahii.N Koii Duujaa
Tujh Ko Chaahaa Tujh Ko Saraahaa Aur Tujhe Hii Puujaa
Tere Dar Ko Maan Ke Ma.Ndir Jhukate Hai.N Ham Jitanaa
Kaun Karegaa Itanaa...

Tere Jaisaa Saathii Jisame.N Tere Jaisaa Dil Hai
Laakh Burii Ho Duniyaa Phir Bhii Jiine Ke Qaabil Hai
Tere Saath Jiine Kii Khaatir Mitate Rahe Ham Jitanaa
Kaun Karegaa Itanaa...

Ri, we had this song on the list; but we omitted because the Lyrics were that of Lata Mangeshkar: and we could not find the Mukesh Lyrics.

Singer:.........Mukesh/Lata
Musician:.......Kalyanji/Anandji
Lyrics:.........Anjaam
Year:...........1977

Lata:
Kuch aise
(Kuch aise bandhan hote hai jo bin bandhe bandh jate hai)2
Such are some ties that without tieing they get tied

Mukesh:
(Jo bin bandhe bandh jate hai)2 wo jeewan bhar tarpate hai
Those who get tied without being tied yearn all their lives
Kuch aise
such are some ties ...

Lata:
Kuch aise bandhan hote hai jo bin bandhe bandh jate hai
Such are some ties that without tieing they get tied

Jane ye kaisa nata hai jo bin jore jur jata hai
Don't know what relationship is this that begins without trying
Ik din manka pagal panchi bin pankh lage ur jata hai
one day the heart is like a crazy bird without a feat flies away

Mukesh:
(Suraj choone ki koshish mein)2 panchi ke par jal jate hai
in the effort to touch the sun the feathers of the bird burn away
Kuch aise bandhan...
such are some ties ...

Lata:
Kuch aise bandhan hote hai jo bin bandhe bandh jate hai
Such are some ties that without tieing they get tied

(Jab pyar ki tapti raahon mein)2 do pyase dil mil jate hai
when in the blistering paths of love two thirsty hearts meet
Phir dhoop chaon ban jati hai, saason mein phool khil jate hai
then the sunshine becomes the shade, flowers bloom in the breaths

Mukesh:
(Jaagi ankhon ke ye sapne)2 aksar mann ko chal jate hai
dreams seen by waking eyes often deceive the heart
Kuch aise,

Lata:
Kuch aise bandhan hote hai jo bin bandhe bandh jate hai
Such are some ties that without tieing they get tied

Mukesh:
(Jo bin bandhe bandh jate hai)2 wo jeewan bhar tarpate hai
Those who get tied without being tied yearn all their lives

Lata:
Kuch aise bandhan hote hai jo bin bandhe bandh jate hai
Such are some ties that without tieing they get tied

Sorry Saeed!
I fwded the translation to Asj bhaiya just as u sent it....
but i had no idea he was going to post it on the BB....

what the heck..there is nothing worng with u loving yr mom or yr mom loving u..YOU SHOULD BE PROUD OF THIS and not EMBARRASSED...

the world would be a much better place if more men loved their moms like u did and still do..and vice versa!!!

...now now..dont be embarrassed...
im sorry .. my bhaiya 'unconsciously' exposed yr 'softer side'.....

r we forgiven for the blunder??? pleaseaa

Noooooooooo, no no no. NOT a blunder. lol. Its just this: those who know me well know me to be a softie but I like to maintain a facade befitting my quote steely eyes unquote.

I am proud to have been a son my mom loved as she did. I never meant to criticise. Sorry Bhiya. And thanks dear dear Lynn.

The Humane nature of the emotions stirred by the riveting soulful songs of Mukesh Chand Mathur once in a while brings out the feelings from the depth of our heart.
After losing a dear one sometime or the other, it is perfectly normal to express that emotions by the shedding of tears and rememberence, even after the beloved Departed Soul has long gone towards the great beyond.......memories of their kindness and loving nature stirred by extreme emotional songs, brings on a jolt in our memory reflecting a "moment of serene joy"
Emotions, a psychological phenomenon, can be seen as an angry or serene experiences which sometimes or the other we all go through. I truly believe you shed the tears, speak about it, get it off your chest and the better a person, you are for it.

My Apologies Bhai Saeed, and still my Dua's for your departed Mom.
Why am I thinking that she is looking down at you from Jannah with a smile; you are a "good son"

Mukesh is getting us all to emotional, but the project continues........

Chami Dids, So glad that our effort (Lynn, Saeed and myself) has proven worthwile, with all the feedback we have been getting, goes to show like myself, there are so many Mukesh's fans out there.
We are nearing the end of this projec, we are looking for about 10 more songs, and this is the time where we get picky and choosy all in the interest of getting the "Best"
Sometimes the link (musicindiaonline) seems to have problems, like this morning, but after a couple hours....they would fix, and all is okay again.
Hey remember Vandana Bajpai sings Mukesh, it is one of the rare recordings, with such beautiful songs.

Singer:.........Mukesh
Musician:.......Shankar Jaikishen
Lyrics:.........Hasrat Jaipuri
Year:...........1967

raat aaur din diyaa jale, mere man mein fir bhee andhiyaaraa hai
jaane kahaa hai, o saathee, too jo mile jeewan ujiyaaraa hai

(pag pag man meraa thhokar khaaye, chaand sooraj bhee raah naa dikhaaye)2
ayesaa ujaalaa koee man mein samaaye, jis se piyaa kaa darshan mil jaaye

raat aaur din diyaa jale, mere man mein fir bhee andhiyaaraa hai
jaane kahaa hai, o saathee, too jo mile jeewan ujiyaaraa hai

(gaharaa ye bhed koee muz ko bataaye, kisane kiyaa hain muzapar anyaay)2
jis kaa ho dip wo sukh naheen paaye, jyot diye kee duje ghar ko sajaaye

raat aaur din diyaa jale, mere man mein fir bhee andhiyaaraa hai
jaane kahaa hai, o saathee, too jo mile jeewan ujiyaaraa hai

Saeedbhai, the first verse in the above song "Jis Dil mein basa tha"

should it read as follows:....
un rahon ko hamane mord diya hay, mord diya
I have abandoned those paths, woe, abandoned them

or should it be

un rahon ko hamane chhod diya hay, chhod diya
I have abandoned those paths, woe, abandoned them

I have listened to the song I think I am hearing (I could be wrong)
un rahon ko hamane mord diya hay, mord diya
I have abandoned those paths, woe, abandoned them

Kindly confirm:

I think it's "chhod" in the perfect tense of the verb "chhorna" to leave, give up, abandon.

Now I am sure that Mukesh sang Mordh as I have listened a couple times.

Mitwah bhai, listen to the song, could this be a rare boo boo by Mukesh?

Asj your ear is very sharp. Please excuse me, I thought you were talking about the chorus verse. I listened and I think you are right.

I look it up in my dictionary. Mord comes from morna meaning to turn away or to divert.

If Mukesh is right, then the translation needs to be corrected.

I have a collection in Hindi Script. Will check later.

Please I am not trying to jump the gun here on Bhai Saeed. Just trying to help.

here is what oldie fan has to say...

Lynn
I listened to the song again. I too agree with ASJ. I hear it as,

un rahon ko hamane 'mod' (or mud) diya hay, 'mod' diya
(I have abandoned those paths, woe, abandoned them)

This will only need a minor change in the translation (abandon > turn away).
Saeed, please correct me if I am wrong.

I think. it can be spelled 'moD' or muD. I looked up in a dictionary. it says, 'to turn' or 'bend'.

You are absolutely correct, all of you; it is indeed:

un rahon ko hamane mord diya hay, mord diya

mord means to turn as in, say, steering wheel being turned. Faced with the translation job I debated with myself if I should convey the meaning of

a) turning myself/my steps away from those paths

or

b) turning all my paths away (from the direction of her door)

So I chose

c) I have abandoned those paths, woe, abandoned them

I went for "abandoned" as it nicely conveyed all of the above in a compact manner. It just so happens it is also the translation of chor .. and chor rhymes with mord .. another coincidence.. and it led to the natural assumption that I made an aural mistake. Hardly likely since this song applied balm to my wounded heart in one of the many love affairs that had to be "abandoned" Roll Eyes hehehe

But seriously please feel free to change it ... I welcome corrections as I do not profess to be all knowing. I am just a man, with all the limitations of my tribe. Big Grin

Bhai Saeed your translation literally is perfectly correct and I would prefer to leave as it is, a slight in the word makes no problem or any matter to be worried about.

What really I was concerned with is the lyrics, If someone is using this song lyrics to sing, we would definatley like them to use the Mord or modh instead of chhod.

Someday bhai you can tell us about your escapades of "the many love affairs" abandoned Big Grin Big Grin

ASJ bhai ... re Dil ki nazar se

Yours is the editorial red pencil, sure, but two changes you made yielded meanings different from the intended sense:

Dil ki nazar se, nazaron ki dil se
from the gaze of the heart, gaze of the heart

I had written it like this:

from the gaze of the heart, heart of the gaze

the first occurance is "dil ki nazar" ie. heart's gaze and the second is "nazaron ke dil" meaning gazes' heart.

nice reversal, just like:

tujhko dekhaa hai meree nazaron ne, teree taareef ho magar kaise
my eyes have gazed on you, but it is so difficult to praise you
ke bane ye nazar zubaan kaise, ke bane ye zubaan nazar kaise
for how can my gaze be my tongue, and how can my tongue gaze up to you
naa zubaan ko dikhaayi detaa hai, naa nigaahon se baat hothee hai
the tongue can not see anything, and the gaze can not articulate

the other change was:

Kya, dekh kar, aaj hain itne khush chaand taare)-2
they have witnessed happiness of the moon and stars

the intended sense is like this:

what have the moon and stars witnessed that they are so happy today

my two paisas worth.

Bhai Saeed I will change to "what have the moon and stars witnessed that they are so happy today"

For the first change...if you can review the sentence to make it flowing as literal as possible, I will go with the
change...........something does not click in "heart of the gaze" as this does not make any sense.
Again I know that we losses the beauty of the Hindi/Urdu when translates to english, but we have to understand that when a person is reading a translation......he/she is looking for a flowing sentence something that makes sense.
A layman would understand "gazes of the heart"
but if I should write "heart of the gazes" then that does not make any sense to me, that why I would prefer literal flowing sentences that is understandable rather than precisely correct that have a tendency to be vague not making any sense.

(Aakaash mein, ho rahen hain ye kaise ishaare
in the sky, what signs are being made
Kya, dekh kar, aaj hain itne khush chaand taare)-2
what have they witnessed that happy are the moon and stars ******
Kyon tum paraaye, dil mein samaaye
why you who were not mine now fill my heart
Ye baat kya hai, ye raaz kya hai
why is this, what secret is this?
Koi hamein bataa de
somepne please tell me

******something is not correct with this sentence, reason for the changes, your second explanation of "what have the moon and stars witnessed that they are so happy today" makes mmore sense.

I would like you to reread the stanza I copied in my original post illustrating the reversal of a concept. dil ki nazar and nazar ka dil are so different.

Lynn once wrote to me questioning someone's translation of the following couplet sung by Rafi sahib:

Bahut Shukriya Badi Meherbaani,
Meri Zindagi Mein Huzur Aap Aaye,
Kadam Chumlun Yaa, Ke Aankhen Bichadun,
Karun Kya Yeh Meri, Samaj Mein Na Aaye,

the bold line was translated something like:

shall I kiss your steps or spread my eyes

the literal translation presented such a strange scenario that Lynn felt something was wrong there. In urdu/hindi it sounds ok but translate it and be prepared to scratch your head.

Some things just can't be translated if you are totally foreign to the language. This is not the case here, I like to think. Your reservations about your audience's perceptions might perhaps be valid and then again you might be on a wrong tack. I personally wouldn't sell your audience short.

It's been most rewarding to do these translations for GNI but as I explained in my em a few days back I find myself buried under my workload and conscious of the delays I have already caused to this thread, I must beg to be excused. The baton can be passed to some of the very talented members of your excellent community.

My best wishes to you all.

Dids Memories are surely kindled with these songs; like for instance #88 had me listening like about 4 times.

The youth of Lata and Mukesh fifty five year old songs. Could it lives on for another 50? I think so.

Mukesh could breathe a thousand shades of despair and distill a lifetime of heartache projecting emotions in their raw, unfurnished state. A voice that deeply imbibed melancholiness, a profoundly innocent and mellifluous sweetness; an exquisite blend of torment and anguish, tenderness and joy.

LEGENDARY:MUKESH CHAND MATHUR

Jaane kahan gaye woh din...'in particular brings back a hard-to-forget memory for Mukesh's son. On August 22 and 23 Mukesh had performed at Montreal and Toronto. May be it was because he wasn't feeling too well or because he had a premonition of his death, but Mukesh sent an SOS to his son who was vacationing in America to join him in Montreal for the 23rd concert. The show went off well. It was nearing the end. Mukesh was on his last song, his favourite song, ˜Jaane kahan gaye woh din...' when he announced that his son would be singing with him. Surprised, Nitin Mukesh stepped out of the wings. After the first antara Mukesh stopped and Nitin Mukesh took over. The words were almost prophetic though he didn't realise it then. The crowds went wild. Mukesh had a smile on his face. His son, he knew, was ready to take over from him. Four days later he was gone. And it was Nitin Mukesh who was singing the song at the next show on August 27, alone.

(reality check- baanvare= bumble bee- in hindi poetry- refers to lover)
O loved one, this is the tradition of love

(aashaayen mit jaayen to mit jaayen
If I lose my home then so be it
dil kii aahen (kabhii na baahar aayen)2
the sad sighs of my heart, will never be obvious to anyone
bharii ho honthon par muskaan
It may be tough, But my lips will smile

The lyricist were certainly not thinking of the bumble bee and the Moth but the Lovers and their dilema.

Hindi Movie/Album Name: ANURAAG - 1956

Hindi Lyrics:

Kissee Yaad Rakho Kisse Bhool Jaaoon

koi dil mein hai aur koi nazar mein
muhabbat ke sapane main kisape lutaauun
isi kash-ma-kash mein jie ja raha hoon
kise yaad rakhoon kise bhool jaaoon

bachapan ke pyaar ki mitati nahi nishaani
kitana hi mitaana chaahe ise javaani

(96) BHOOL NE WALE YAAD NA AY..........ANOKHI ADA 1973
http://www.channeldosti.com/oldies/Mukesh/Bhoolne%20Wal...aad%20Na%20Aa_16.mp3

Another KL Saigal Replica:

Starring:Jeetendra, Jeevan, Kanhaiya Lal, Manmohan, Mehmood, Nazir Hussain, Rekha, Vinod Khanna

Anokhi Ada is featuring mainly the heroine's amnesia. The rivals for her love are an adventurer (Abib) who calls himself Laatsaheb (i.e. Lord Sahib) and a professor (Surendra). Each is associated with her life on either side of her memory divide, giving each a patricular stake in whether she be allowed to recall her past or not. Remarkably shot in heavy chiaroscuro, esp. in the backdrops at the professor's house where the heroine battles with her amnesia.

I don't remember this one. Maybe I've got a little bit of the amnesia. I don't know if you needed the lyrics. Here it is anyway.

SORRY GUYS:

I was wrong by listing the wrong Year: The correct listing should read:

(96) BHOOL NE WALE YAAD NA AY..........ANOKHI ADA 1948
http://www.channeldosti.com/oldies/Mukesh/Bhoolne%20Wal...aad%20Na%20Aa_16.mp3

The 1948 Movie is totally different from that listed. Movie review listed is that of 1973:

Mukesh Voice replacates that of KL Saigal, in Bhoolne wale:
Mitwahbhai a beautiful song to sing especially if you are playing the harmonium for yourself:

I thought Jeetindra started to act in the late 60's. I could be wrong. Perhaps there are two movies. I am not familiar with the movie(s).

Good Mornng Bhaiji, There is only one "Bhulne wale Yaad Na aa" and that is from the Movie Anokha Ada 1948.
I realised that a mistake was made and I did record a correction, maybe the correction just slipped you Big Grin
The mix up came about because of two movies with the same name.........your lyrics is for the 1948 Anokha Ada.
