This Documentary by Shundell Prasad tells the story of the often forgotten Indentured system which replaced the African Slave trade in the Caribbean.
Between 1838 and 1917 well over half a Million Indians were transported to the Caribbean to work on the Sugar Plantations in conditions no better than those that persisted during the Slave trade. Today their descendants form the majority of the populations of Guyana, Trinidad and Suriname and are the overall second largest Ethnic Group in the Caribbean http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=1_MMQtanzyA&feature=related |
